See..you people see....

i just looked at this section of the nairaland mainpage today...........

i cannot believe..that i have spent so much time in my short life..doing other unimportant stuff on here when this part of the forum exists!!!! embarassed embarassed embarassed embarassed embarassed embarassed embarassed

still...

now..i am here.

From the first day i saw a senior at school fighting with his final year project strictly on Java...i had fallen in love with the entire world of programming. i am not a computer science student nor graduate. i have no prior knowledge on programming, maybe other than the FORTRAN we had to do at 100 level if that counts...

i would say that i listened to bad advice from peers when i expressed my interest in programming as a chemical engineering graduate during youth service..i was told..by computer science and engineering grads likewise . "..its too hard..don't bother..we sef that have a first degree in it..we wont.." and a lot of other blah blahs..anyway..fast forward to now...everyday in the last 3-4 years of my life..i open these websites daily.. Engadget, Androidcentral, Wpcentral, 9to5mac, cultofmac, just to read tech news and stuff..so please..how would that let me forget what i have always had a passion for?

finally..i googled..and asked like a proper Naija person.. "i want to program/code, what do i learn/start with?" ...i got the same answer from like 8 different google search results..

PYTHON

so...i started. to teach myself.

suggested books - Head First Programming, Head First Python. very fun books...it actually manages to make programming fun. BUT. it didnt help me with fundamentals.. iwas doing stuff..and didnt know why..

until someone pointed me to a webpage EDX...dunno if i am allowed to post wed addresses here so i didnt...
so my good people...so far....so wonderfully complicated and soooo..i feel like being hooked on something...i finally found something i love to do....my phones..ipad..laptop..everybody has a python verson or another installed such that when i am somewhere idle..where people bring out phones and devices to play with..i bring mine out..and start to code.
yes i know how that sounds..highest form of geekery and nerdery..but hey..i believe i started late..but i am not deterred...

so please welcome my humble myself (yes i mean that exactly as it sounds) into ur midst grin grin grin grin

Now..lol..I can imagine y'all would call my topic click bait..just hear me out first.

If u drive or own a car in Naija..then this has happened to u before.

How many times..in ur dealings with our dear vulcanizers..have they ..after sorting ur tyres..especially rim changes...in the process of ensuring a tight fit between rim and rubber..applied the country famous staple food...Fufu...or akpu...or sometimes..if u are unfortunate enough...Eba grin to better cement rim/alloy to rubber..

My question - surely..in the more developed countries..they do not fufu up their tyres during a fitting..what is the proper "adhesive" used to do this?..I would like to know..so at least maybe I can sensitize as many vulcanizers as I can..to use that..instead of wasting food on my tyres..please to those who know...help me out.

Update - i have upgraded to the 10536 now..again..waiting for the phone to start displaying its..em.. "skills"

i dont think its 536 that can go directly to 582..u still have to go back to 8.1 from 536..and then go to 57X..cant really remember the last digit for that, but that is the one that can now upgrade directly to 10582 without rolling back to 8.1.

UPDATE: to correct what i just wrote..a direct update is actually possible..KallmemrB was right..i'm currently updating from 10536 to 10581..will post my observations.

now just to check..i havnt taken time to read previous pages of the thread, so there might have been something said about this..feel free to point me back..i will read..eventually sha..lol..been a while i posted here.

now..my gist..those of una, that have tried ur hands on the windows 10 mobile technical preview...HOW FAR? are u still on it? i ask because i know for a fact that its all roses and sweets when u newly install,,and then gradually..like a fake mobile phone battery..it all starts to go south..personal experience - W10m technical preview 10166 on a lumia 925. The bestest thing i ever saw on a mobile. when the thing started to deal with me ehn!..phone so hot i can boil yam with it, EVERYTHING takes 6 seconds in the least to open if it actually does..and the worst..oh dear God..battery life was 3hrs per day!..thats not an exaggeration cry .
jejely..they didnt tell me..i rolled back to 8.1...the relief was unbelievable..the fone became so good..esp battery life i was actually sad..lol..cos truth be told..all the negatives aside..w10m was fantastic. i particularly miss the ability to lock my network to 3G alone.
will i go back to 10? ABSOLUTELY (yes..i no dey hear word..i know) but the builds get better with each release..now i have a notification upgrade for 10536..i know the latest one is 10582..but i cant jump the upgrade so i must do the 536 first...AND DOWNGRADE BACK TO 8.1 angry
Oh well..when i decide to..y'all will be the first to hear how it goes.
> END OF RANT<

please.. i want to hear experiences from others..how has ur w10m experience been..share...thank you.

You really don't need to install a third party app to take screenshots on windows phone. There is a native shortcut keys for screenshot already on windows phones:
For Windows 8.0 - Volume up+home (windows) button simultaneously.
For Windows 8.1 (Cyan, Denim) - Volume up+power key simultaneously.

To view your screenshots, head to pictures and swipe to screenshot folders.

oh dear lord..i feel so ignorant..lol..i deleted the said screenshot app and still tried the volume and power key combo - big surprise..it still works..lol..my OS is cyan btw..thanks for the clarification.

yeah window is the best OS,Im using lumia 532,pls how can I view my running app, take screen shot etc,....actually I needed a gmail but what I got is @outlook.com,I wonder what that means, also I need you to suggest some cool app for me,I'm new to window thanks. Whatsapp on window is da bomb!,my bbm is loading forever and later show an error message, livetiles is lovely and it updates perfectly....I love window phones.

when you say "view my running app" do you mean an app that is currently open..even if u aren't using it at the moment?..that would be windows phone idea of multitasking and you do that by pressing and holding the "back" button until it zooms into smaller portrait views of all the apps currently open..hope that helps..

also..to take a screen shot..i use an app called..well... "screenshot" downloaded for free at the store..to use it..u press the "up volume button and the power button at the same time" to take a screenshot.

about the mail..well..outlook is native to microsoft..so its only natural u'll have that as a first option on ur phone..besides..u are expected to have a LIVE email account that the outlook will operate i.e "youremailusername"@live.com before u can download any app from the store.
However, when u set ur outlook mail up, u go into it and using the options button (three dots at the bottom right of the screen) ..you shld see an option that says "add email account" choosing that will give u the option to set up other mails including yahoo and ur gmail..hope this helps.

Update: i finally found the app i was looking for..that used to be Nokia Music on the WP7.X versions..thanks @Feraz..its actually called MIXRADIO now..and its complete with audio enhancements that actually did make my music sound better..it has other streaming options and radio i think..but i just needed it for the music player and so far..i am quite satisfied with it..

saw on Wpcentral today tho that the stock music player got some updates..not sure how much that fixes..

also the updates they say bbm got on the beta better make it to the main version of the app soon..this current is too buggy and sometimes takes two tries to open it up when i get a notification..and my phone isnt slow..thats all i have to complain about tho cos compared to the other OS..the user interface is totally bad-ass.
Phones / Re: Windows Mobile Naija Forum by Folajay22(m): 4:36pm On Apr 21, 2015
Feraz:
There is an app there called wallet. Just go through it, you should see a place where you can put up your debit card details of which whenever you go to the store to purchase, it buys it for you since it has been registered. I recall putting my card details in it which I used to purchase the Nigerian Constitution, Mass Effect: Infiltrator and others. Also, check your region and alternatively, download quickteller app. It should help.

For music player, it is called I think new music - icon is a smiley face coloured pink. Check it -I really can't recall.

thanks man..i'll look both up
Phones / Re: Windows Mobile Naija Forum by Folajay22(m): 10:47am On Apr 21, 2015
hey guys.. as a follow up to my last post.. i spoke about returning to the WP ecosystem and wanted to get the 1020..no luck with that..i finally got the lumia 925...and i have a few things to comment on after about a week's use..
- the Gorilla glass display : how is it..that the flagship lumia devices with the said display tend to just look better than other devices on other platforms sporting "gorilla glass displays"according to their specs..u just cant compare how the lumia screen looks to the others..i would know..i was still using an iphone 5s 2 weeks ago.
- prior to nokia's sale of the lumia franchise to microsoft..there used to be an alternate music player - nokia music in the devices...i noticed that now that its 'xbox' everything..the music player isn't there..and i'm just stuck with the default player..not that its bad or anything..but i would have liked anoda option..so i want to ask..how do we pay for apps?..as in can we tie our own naira debit mastercard to our microsoft accounts and use that to pay for apps?..cos there are some sweet looking alternatives in the store but they aren't for free..and i tried to do the pay thing..but it was all "american" and billing address and credit card and all that ish..
- its still difficult to charge a lumia from low battery..they really need to work on that..u cant 'steal a charge'on those devices..notin like fast charge..u gats siddon there..lol..
- the sound quality..that i was particular about..definitely wasn't the worst...waaaaayyy better than the lumia 800 and 900 i used earlier...the 925 seems good enuf for my daily music player..as i have some really good earpieces and headphones..
that being said..please take time to read and respond to my question on payments..thanks a lot.

Elxandre:

Don't buy the 1020.
Buy the 1520 or 930 instead.

What I do know is that the music player on WP isn't the best thing in the world.

I cant even get the 1020 again..lost the link..now i'm stuck with a 925.. *sigh*
Phones / Re: Windows Mobile Naija Forum by Folajay22(m): 10:52am On Apr 13, 2015
Okay..so i have watched this space and read this thread for quite some time..i will now go ahead and make some contributions..now that i am about to re-enter the ecosystem

Story go plenty small..sp pls bear with me.

Now..i consider myself..an avid fan of the windows ecosystem in general..back to the days of the windows mobile OS..my first experience - HTC touch diamond 2..running windows mobile 6.XX..not too sure now..we all would agree we were being left behind by the emerging OS then - blackberry, ios and android..yes emerging..cos windows mobile was here first grin ..so u could imagine my joy..when the windows phone project kicked off....
Fast forward years later..i bought my first WP ..the Nokia Lumia 800..now..i digress..forgive me for this... I am a certified Audiophile..so not just music..but the quality of the output of the sound IS THE MOST IMPORTANT thing to me..for this reason..i have owned and ipod as long as it was available..and promptly shifted to the iphone when it came out cos of the matching impeccable sound handling and music collation that apple has..now windows people..remember the microsoft Zune?..i still dont understand to this day why MS thinks it is a failure..cos that thing matched the ipod sound quality for sound quality..i would know..i owned one..sadly it was discontinued..only for the zune player to resurface in the WP7 ecosystem..i was ecstatic..cos i thot that meant i could now face ny true love..the windows phone platform fully without looking for music at cupertino's doorstep...then i tried to do music with my lumia...
Mother of God..

The sound was eternally abysmally awful cry ..i probably cried..i'm not sure..lol..cos that meant i had to keep giving steve jobs money angry ..anyway..long story short...WP devices have a history of sad music player audio quality..so i put a questio to u all now...do u use ur WPs as dedicated audio players?..if yes...which is impressive enuf to make me drop my iphone?..

FYI - the WP i'm getting soon is a lumia 1020..and y'all wont believe that there isnt a SINGLE review out there on audio quality of that fone..all everyone cares about is the bloody camera!! I dont care..i just want something that can run WP8.XX and above wit a flagship specification..i suffered wit being stuck on 7.8 with my lumia 900 enuf..lol

Please read and respond to the audio quality question..thanks for ur time..

I will do a review on the 1020 when i get it..feel free to welcome me into ur midst...again..lol
