Hi everyone, according to the new 3montha validity period for non-immigrant visa, how long after visa issuance does an applicant have to travel? Is it within 3months of issuance please? Or they can travel at a later date? My parents have their interview by October 16th and we plan for them to come by March. Is this possible or would their visa have expired by then? Please enlighten me 🙏🏾

It is now mandatory to fill your ds 160, to sign it and submit finally before initiating the booking of your visa appointment. The U.S embassy lay emphasis on this rule twice and in one of their posts they reiterated " Do not start this application if you have not filed and submitted your ds-160. However, that is not the reason for your USER INACTIVE. 👍

Thank you for your response, will finish the ds-160 application then and see if it will allow me proceed

The reason is that the applicant data might have exist on avits portal before. Try to confirm because I have passed through such and that's the reason for user inactive.

Hi everyone, I’m trying to register on AVIS and start the visa application for my parents while still keeping the DS-160 open (un-submitted) in order to quickly pick any date available next year but after creating a profile, it’s saying “USER IS INACTIVE” on AVITS, is it mandatory to submit the DS-160 now before someone can go ahead to apply for the visa cos I was wondering what could be the issue. Please enlighten me 🙏🏾

Hi gurus in the house, I’m planning to apply for a visit visa for my parents and my younger sister come next year, she will be almost 19years by the time they will go for their interview. I want to confirm if it’s okay to do their application together where they can all go for the interview on same day or do I have to do hers separately?

I believe there's a glitch in their system because I was facing the same issues a few weeks ago when I was searching for an interview date and time for my wife, but I was able to pick a date a few days later.

How were you able to pick this please? I’ve been trying to change my parents interview dates from October to July but still nothing till now. It’s been over 3weeks and July dates are still showing in Lagos. Please help 🙏🏾

I see, it has been there for more than 3days now. Abuja has so many appointments in 2025 but none for Lagos 🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️

Because Abuja seem to be working fine, but I think Lagos has a problem with Avits glitch or something.

I’m trying to fill the CGI form for my in-laws to visit the US and I did as instructed about adding them together in the application, I’m at the stage of payment and it’s showing 2 spaces for each of the applicants receipt numbers. Do I pay the money separately in order to generate different receipt numbers or I will pay and use the same receipt number for both of them? Kindly advise

1. Yes it is advisable to invite both parents together . They are husband and wife and the consular himself or herself have parents and have been trained to understand that some husband and wife till the very old age are like siamese twins as a result of deep love.

2. If your mother-inlaw applies alone , the consular might thinks she is coming for au pair or nanny. If your father-inlaw applies alone, the consular might thinks he is coming for medical. Nonetheless, this does not mean that they cannot be successful with individual application. Yes, i will support both of them to apply together but your husband must proof financial ability beyond reasonable doubts.

3. They are adults so they need individual DS-160. Fill two separate DS-160 for them and In each DS-160 form, they should mention one another as travel companion respectively.

4. Once you have two DS-160 confirmations. Go to CGI and create profile For one of them (naturally the father) with his email address used in his DS-160 and proceed to schedule appointment.

5. On step 6, you will see : “Add by Name” or "Add Existing Applicant" if you have a group/family member (including a child) who needs to apply for a visa with you. Click Add by Name and add the mother's details (DS-160 confirmation number, name, passport number etc information).

6. Once that is done you will see that the mother is added to the appointment and the next step should display calculation of visa fee application for two people.

I planned to visit my husband in the US by August and my interview is July, I was going through the thread and I saw that someone visiting for pleasure should choose B2 visa category. While applying, I chose B1/B2, is there a consequence for this? Do I have to change my visa category? I need your responses please 🙏🏾
