Before repair or replacement of transmission unit of your B6 Passat. Are you experiencing jerky transmission or hesitated movement? You also need to profile the noise wether it metallic or just vibration. Any noise from inside of such hydraulic gearbox woul have practically grounded the vehicle. The culprit is definitely your inner shaft cup. It's worn or out of lubricant/grease which usually caused by leaked shaft hose/boot.
