Romance / Photo Capturing Display Of Love Between Husband And Wife Goes Viral by Forumine: 5:19am On May 04, 2018
There are many ways in which love manifests itself.

And often the signs of true love aren’t the big or clichéd romantic gestures, but rather the little things - the cup of tea in bed every morning, waiting for you to get home before watching your favourite TV show, liking every single one of your Instagrams without fail.
Love is ageless, as one couple recently proved. And the story has now gone viral.

It was an incredibly hot day, with temperatures of 98°F (37°C), so 34-year-old Kelley had gone to Sonic to get some ice cream for his children.
Whilst there, Kelley realised they weren’t the only ones who fancied some ice cream, as he witnessed an extremely poignant moment.

“So today, I took the kids to the pool and we stopped for ice cream on the way home,” Kelley wrote on Facebook.

“When I got my ice cream and pulled out, I realised that this elderly man beside me was sitting outside his car door, spoon-feeding his wife ice cream who also looked in her late eighties.

“He draped a towel over her and slowly fed his bride in the 98 degree temperature. It was a beautiful display of love.”
And the photo has touched people across the world, now with 612,000 reactions, 260,000 shares and 45,000 comments.

“True love,” commented many people. “Goals,” added others.

The man in the photo was called “a wonderful gentleman,” and some pointed out that it’s not something you see every day.

“One day I would love to be that lucky,” added one person.

And many agreed that, quite simply: “Love is such a beautiful thing.”

Technology Market / Pentagon Orders Stores To Ban Certain Chinese Phones Amid Spying Concerns by Forumine: 12:53pm On May 03, 2018
The Pentagon has ordered all stores on U.S. military bases worldwide to ban mobile phones and other telecommunications equipment made by the Chinese companies Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. and ZTE Corp. after senior U.S. intelligence officials warned the phones could be used to spy on Americans and U.S. service members.

The products were removed from exchange service stores and exchange concessionaires worldwide following warnings from top U.S. intelligence officials and lawmakers that Chinese mobile phones could track movements of the military.

In a statement, the Pentagon said, “Huawei and ZTE devices may pose an unacceptable risk to the Department’s personnel, information and mission. In light of this information, it was not prudent for the Department’s stores to continue selling them.”

Officials told Fox News the Pentagon also recently terminated its use of BlackBerry smartphones, and now issues Apple iPhones, which also are assembled in China.

He added that, “The department is evaluating the situation and will determine the necessity of issuing additional guidance.”
Tom Cotton, the junior senator from Arkansas, asked some of the most pointed questions to the panel of U.S. intelligence officials during the hearing.

Cotton prefaced his questions by stating that there is a “threat posed by China and specifically Chinese telecomm companies.”

The senator added he had introduced legislation, along with other senators, which says that “the U.S. government can’t use Huawei or ZTE and the U.S. government can’t use companies that use them.”

Huawei is the world’s third largest smartphone maker, and ZTE is the fourth largest seller in the United States.

Romance / More Than 120 Uber Drivers Said To Have Sexually Assaulted Riders by Forumine: 8:44pm On May 01, 2018
After an evening of cocktails in San Diego, a woman got into the back of an Uber for a ride home. She was so intoxicated she had to ask the driver to stop so she could vomit. She says she then passed out in the backseat.

When she regained consciousness, the Uber driver was on top of her, raping her, a block from her home, according to the police report and two sources familiar with the investigation.

She was able to escape and dial 911.

Police later arrested the Uber driver, John David Sanchez, 54. When they searched his computer, they found videos of Sanchez raping women and abusing young teenagers, dating back at least five years.

In November, Sanchez was sentenced to 80 years in prison for the rape of the Uber passenger and 33 other counts against him, including sexual assaults of at least nine other women and children. Sanchez drugged many of his victims.

A CNN investigation has found that Sanchez is just one of at least 103 Uber drivers in the U.S. who have been accused of sexually assaulting or abusing their passengers in the past four years. The drivers were arrested, are wanted by police, or have been named in civil suits related to the incidents. At least 31 drivers have been convicted for crimes ranging from forcible touching and false imprisonment to rape, and dozens of criminal and civil cases are pending, CNN found.

There is no publicly available data for the number of sexual assaults by Uber drivers or for drivers of other rideshare companies. CNN's analysis comes from an in-depth review of police reports, federal court records and county court databases for 20 major U.S. cities.

Science/Technology / Facebook Finally Introduces The 'dislike' Button by Forumine: 8:59pm On Apr 30, 2018
Your Facebook experience is getting a “Dislike” button, though it’s not really an actual button. Nor is it called “Dislike.” However, it is a step towards allowing users to express their distaste for certain comments. That’s because the “dislike button” is actually a downvote option similar to what’s currently available on Reddit. And it only works with comments, not actual posts.

Going forward, you’ll be able to upvote and downvote comments made on Facebook, just like on Reddit. On Reddit, however, you can also upvote and downvote a post. You’ll still be able to Like a comment just as you do now, and you’ll be able to see how it’s all laid out in the screenshots below.

While it’s visible to everyone when you like a post or comment on Facebook, upvoting or downvoting a comment will be totally anonymous — well, Facebook will know, but not your friends or the total strangers who’re involved in the conversation. Facebook has been testing the feature for a while now, and it’s finally rolling out to more users, The Next Web reports. You might see it soon in your account, though there’s no telling exactly when people will gain access to the new feature.

The company has made the feature widely available in Australia and New Zealand for the time being, in what appears to be some sort of advanced-stage test.

By enabling upvote and downvote buttons, Facebook is apparently looking to empower users to police the social network. Flagging bad comments might be something that improves Facebook in time. It certainly seems like it’s part of Facebook’s objective of pushing content to your feed that results in meaningful interactions. Let’s just hope that people don’t abuse the feature, or use it to simply downvote things they disagree with. OK fine, that’s exactly how it’s going to be used and we all know it.

Phones / This NEW "Lumiwatch" Turns Your Arm Into A Touchscreen by Forumine: 4:52pm On Apr 30, 2018
Like the idea of a device that doesn't need to be picked up or carried around?

You might be impressed by the prototype for the LumiWatch, a new smartwatch from Carnegie Mellon University researchers that turns your arm or hand into a touchscreen.

The fully functional and self-contained LumiWatch uses a bright, 15-lumen projection module and touch sensor to give you a touchscreen interface right on your body. Just tap and swipe directly on your own skin to open the device and control apps.

The researchers presented their paper on the interface this week at the SIGCHI (Special Interest Group on Computer-Human Interaction) conference in Canada.

The smartwatch runs on Android 5.1 and can connect to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. It features a Qualcomm 1.2 GHz quad-core CPU, 768MB of RAM , 4GB of flash memory and a 740 mAh lithium-ion battery.

The prototype watch measures about 2 inches by 1.6 inches by 0.66 inches (50 millimeters by 41 millimeters by 17 millimeters).

In a video posted this week, the LumiWatch prototype is shown in action, with users swiping and tapping colorful projected images on their arms. The users also demonstrate the continuous 2D finger-tracking capabilities.

Once in production, the LumiWatch is expected to cost around $600 (roughly £435, AU$791 ).

While this prototype is groundbreaking when it comes to touchscreen projections, it isn't the first projector smartwatch. In February, tech company Haier released the Asu Smartwatch, which uses a tiny projector to beam images onto the user's arm.

The Asu Smartwatch has 1GB of memory inside, is powered by a 1.2GHz processor, and includes an integrated fitness tracker, a stopwatch, a heart-rate sensor, GPS, 4G LTE support and a gyroscope.

Technology Market / Samsung’s Galaxy S9 NOW comes with up to 256GB of storage by Forumine: 4:41pm On Apr 30, 2018
While we thought the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ received only incremental changes over their predecessors, but now both are getting another modest upgrade. Soon you'll be able to buy the phone in 128GB and 256GB.

Sure, users could always get more space for their photos and songs by using external storage, but who wants to mess with SD cards? Having more internal storage built-in is a nice improvement on the S9's launch version if you anticipate saving a lot of media locally. It'll come in handy, too, if you plan on shooting in 4K and Super Slow-mo video modes. And if that's not enough, the bigger smartphones will still support microSD cards up to 400GB.

The 128GB S9 will retail for $770 and the same size S9+ for $890, while the 256GB S9 will cost $820 and the S9+ $940. All options will be available in Lilac Purple, Coral Blue and Midnight Black. Fans can preorder the smartphones starting May 1st, and they'll be available exclusively on Samsung's website May 18th.
