Politics / Nigerians May Reject APC In 2019 If… — Chief Waku by Fowarding(m): 10:43am On Oct 11, 2016 |
Former senator representing Benue North-West in the National Assembly, Chief Joseph Waku, has said Nigerians might reject All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2019 if the party failed to deliver on its promises. Waku, who recently turned 70, spoke yesterday while warning the ruling party not to take Nigerians for granted after making several promises and leaving the people with so much expectations. He said: “The ruling APC should not to take Nigerians for granted over the promises they made. Because failure to meet their expectations may lead to rejection of the party in 2019. “My sincere worry is that President Muhammadu Buhari has good intentions, but there are many saboteurs around who do not want him to succeed.” On the proposed sale of national assets, Waku described it as primitive, saying “you cannot sell off the sovereignty of the country. How much are the national assets worth? Can their sale solve the present problems?” Waku “There is no country in the world that can run without foreign loans to be repaid within agreed terms. Some Nigerians who have tried brining foreign partners have been blocked. “There are lots of opportunities we can exploit to get out of this recession within the shortest possible period. But it all depends on the willingness of the federal government to exploit such.” He commended the federal government for dropping the case of forgery against the Senate president and his deputy. www.vanguardngr.com/2016/10/nigerians-may-reject-apc-2019-chief-waku/ Cc:lalasticlala Cc:Berlynn Cc: HERSLEY Cc: zinachidi Cc: LordScent |

Politics / NNPC To Commence Commercial Bio-fuel Project In Nigeria, Says GMD by Fowarding(m): 9:17pm On Oct 05, 2016 |
Abuja – The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)will soon commence the first large scale commercial bio-fuel venture as alternative to fossil fuel, Dr Maikanti Baru, Group Managing Director (GMD), has disclosed. Baru made the disclosure on Wednesday in Abuja at a two day Environment Dialogue, titled `Diversification of the Economy, the Role of Jatropha.’ The GMD, who was represented by Mr Babatunde Adeniran, the corporation’s Group Executive Director, Gas and Power, said the project became necessary due to the increasing negative impact of fossil fuel to the environment. The NNPC boss said the corporation would cultivate jatropha plants along the borders of the over 5,000 kilometers of NNPC pipeline right- of- way across the country. Jetropha, is an environmental and economic agro- allied plant called Binidazugu in the North, Lapalapa in South West, Okwa Ekpu in the East and it has over 175 species. The plant could be used to produce bio-fuel which could serve as alternative to diesel. It could also serve as wind breakers and shelter belts to curb flooding, desertification and erosion. Baru stated that bio-fuel, as a renewable source of energy, was currently drawing international recognition as alternative choice of fuel because of its Eco-friendliness, socio-economic and climate benefits. “ As one of the key business areas, NNPC is currently diversifying its products portfolio for enhanced and sustainable energy mix . “We are doing this by integrating bio-fuel production from selected energy crops with a robust agriculture development programme,” he said. The GMD explained that based on its commercial considerations, jatropha ranked second to oil palm as the bio-oil of choice for biodiesel production in the NNPC bio-fuel programme. “Jatropha is considered an appropriate hedge plant for reclaiming forests in extinction, managing desertification, creating soil balance and a logical solution to food versus fuel contest,” he said. He pledged the commitment of the corporation to implement the country’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). www.vanguardngr.com/2016/10/nnpc-commence-commercial-bio-fuel-project-nigeria-says-gmd/ Cc:lalasticlala Cc:Berlynn Cc:HERSLEY 1 Like |
Politics / Independence: There’s Still Much Work To Do For Nigeria, US Govt Tells Buhari by Fowarding(m): 7:49pm On Sep 30, 2016 |
ABUJA – The United States government has reminded president Muhammadu Buhari that there was still so much work to do in Nigeria to bring about economic prosperity of the country. This was contained in a congratulatory message by US Secretary of State, John Kerry to the government and people of Nigeria on the occasion of the country’s 56th Independence Anniversary today. Writing on behalf of President Barack Obama and the American people, Kerry however expressed confidence in Nigerians who he said were working hard to address current national challenges. Kerry’s statement read thus: “On behalf of President Obama and the American people, I congratulate the citizens of Nigeria as you celebrate your Independence Day on October 1. “I recently returned from my third trip to Nigeria as Secretary, and I came away with a strong sense of the nation’s resolve to build a better future. During my trip, I was reminded that many Nigerians are engaged in bringing people together across the divides of culture, religious practices, and ethnicity. “There is still much work to be done to provide economic opportunities for all, end corruption, win the fight against Boko Haram, ensure broad respect for human rights and provide humanitarian relief for millions of displaced people. But we know that Nigerians are hard at work to address these challenges. “The United States looks forward to deepening our partnership and friendship with Nigerians from all walks of life, so that we may work together for the betterment of Nigeria and all of Africa. “Best wishes to all of you on this the 56th anniversary of your independence. www.vanguardngr.com/2016/09/independence-theres-still-much-work-nigeria-us-govt-tells-buhari/ Cc:lalasticlala Cc:HERSLEY Cc:Tosyne2much Cc:Eleniyan15 Cc:Berlyn Cc:Naijaboiy |

Politics / Nigeria’s Recession Not As Bad As Painted — APBN by Fowarding(m): 10:13am On Sep 29, 2016 |
Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria, APBN, said in Lagos yesterday that the economic recession in the country was not bad as it was being painted. According to the group, all government needs to do is to focus on governance with attendant needs of the citizenry. Outgoing-President/Chairman in Council of the body, Mr. Gabriel Fasoto, who made the remark at the 32nd Annual General Assembly, AGA, of the Association, said Nigeria had the resources to move out of recession as quickly as possible. He said: “It is only the harmonisation of these resources that we (Nigeria) need and only the professionals can assist government to quickly get out of the current situation. We have everything it requires to get out of this mess. “It was recently we discovered that government was not taking us seriously, we then felt the need to come together as a united front and then proffer suggestions to government. “It took time before government realised that they are supposed to take professionals more seriously. I want to assure you that they have increased the number of professionals in the country’s affairs. We are partnering with them, and we believe that they will take our advices more seriously than ever before.” Fasoto, who stated that the anti-corruption war waged by Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is already yielding positive results, but noted that implementation of the Treasury Single Account, TSA, had provided greater visibility of government revenues and cash flow between June 2015 and April 2016, with total collected hitting N3 trillion. He urged government at all levels to endeavour to translate the success recorded to good governance, restating the APBN’s commitment to the development of the country by offering its services to the government and its agencies. www.vanguardngr.com/2016/09/nigerias-recession-not-bad-painted-apbn/ Cc:lalasticlala Cc:tinziemaine Cc:LadyF Cc:LordScent |

Politics / EPZ Project Can Stop Militancy, Reunite Ijaw, Itsekiri – Bebenimibo by Fowarding(m): 9:33am On Sep 29, 2016 |
WARRI—A member of the $16 billion private- driven Export Processing Zone, EPZ, project, Warri South West Local Government Area, Delta State, Mr. Paul Bebenimibo, yesterday, said that the project will employ about 150,000 men and women at the construction stage and over 5,000 workers when completed, and same is capable of stopping militancy in the Niger Delta region. Bebenimibo, representing Ijaw interest in the Gbaramatu Deep Sea Port part of the project with the Gas City component in an Itsekiri enclave, told Vanguard, “I wish to add my voice to the call to President Muhammadu Buhari to put machinery in place to continue this project as part of stimulus to the economy to address the current economic recession in the country. “There is no doubt also that this project will address the issue of militancy in the Niger Delta region as unemployment and lack of developmental projects in the region are likely factors fuelling resurgence in the region. “Clearly, this project will significantly address the issue of unemployment in the country, as over 150,000 men and women will be engaged in the construction stage alone, and over 5,000,000 work force when the project is completed. With the present economic situation in Nigeria, this project is very crucial to add value to the economic life of the masses. “It will also unite the two major benefiting tribes of Ijaw and Itsekiri as the need for peaceful co- existence on their part will equally guarantee hitch-free crude oil exploration activities by the Federal Government of Nigeria.” www.vanguardngr.com/2016/09/epz-project-can-stop-militancy-reunite-ijaw-itsekiri-bebenimibo/ 1 Like |
Crime / Suspected Fulani Herdsmen Kidnap Catholic Priest, Shoot 2 Others In Anambra by Fowarding(m): 9:18am On Sep 29, 2016 |
...Demand N2.5m ransom as Bishops dismiss payment Nnewi —The Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, yesterday alleged that suspected Fulani herdsmen armed with dangerous weapons including guns, attacked and kidnapped the Rector of Tansi Major Seminary, Rev. Fr. Dr. Emmanuel Dim, while two other priests Rev. Frs. Jude Chukwuneke and Jude Ezeokana who were in the same vehicle with him escaped with various degrees of gun shot wounds. Addressing reporters at the Nnewi Catholic Diocese Media House, located in Assumption Cathedral Nnewi, Director of Communication of the Diocese, Rev. Fr. Hyginus Aghaulor, alleged that the herdsmen called, and demanded for a ransom of N2.5 million. He said: “Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, has decided and directed that ransom should not be paid for the kidnap of any of its priests and anybody that is demanding for ransom for the release of any priest kidnapped is wasting time. “If anybody or group goes ahead to pay ransom for the release of any priest, the person or the group is on his own.” In a statement issued after addressing reporters, titled “Fulani herdsmen kidnap Rector of Tansi Major Seminary, Onitsha, demands for ransom,” the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi said the incident happened on the September 26, 2016, around 7pm along Nkpologwu/Nimbo Road Enugu State. According to the statement, “the three Catholic priests were returning from Nsukka to Onitsha and Nnewi, after a condolence visit to Rev. Fr. Uchenna Ezeh of Nsukka Diocese who lost his mother, before they were attacked and while Rev. Fr. Dim is still being held by the herdsmen- kidnappers who are demanding a ransom of N2.5 million, Rev. Fr. Ezeokana, who lectures in both Fr. Tansi Major Seminary Onitsha and Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, received treatment briefly at a hospital in Nsukka, but is now recuperating at Awka his home Diocese. “Rev. Fr. Chukwuemeka, who is the Chaplin of St Camillus de Lellis Chaplaincy, College of Health Science, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nnewi ,who was shot on the head has been transferred from Memphis Specialist Hospital Enugu to Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, where he is currently receiving treatment.” “On a separate place the same Monday 26th September, 2016, a Vincentian priest whose name is yet to be confirmed was also kidnapped with his brother along Abuja Lokoja express way, another Catholic priest Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Ugwu was kidnapped on August 9,2014 along Ugwuogo-Nike-Opi and few weeks back a senior seminarian was killed in cold blooded in Attakwu, Enugu State, and one begins to wonder if Catholic priest have become endangered species”. The visibly angry Rev. Fr. Aghaulor lashed out on South East Governors for doing nothing to protect people they are governing, “while their counterparts in the North are influencing the Federal Government in spending billions of naira to contain the Boko Haram insurgents, when something more worrisome and sinister than the activities of Boko Haram is being done in the South East by the Fulani Herdsmen” . “The South East Governors and their Chairman have done nothing to protect the people of South East, the Enugu State Governor whose state is where the menacing activities of the of the herdsmen is worst and the state legislators have not done anything to protect the people there, they should borrow a leaf from Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State. “We are in Federalism, and each state have right to make certain law governing them, what prevents Enugu State Government from making laws that can protect the people there, Governors of South East and their State Assembly’s should make laws that will protect their people”. Rev. Fr. Aghaulor lamented that since the existence of Nigeria, nobody has seen the level of killing spree that is being perpetrated by the Fulani herdsmen, adding that “while innocent people are left unprotected, we have seen barrage of military wares and personnel protecting the pipelines in Niger Delta, as if oil is more important than people’s life. Why should people be killed without provocation in their own traditional lands? “We are asking the government for how long would this continue, is this the type of country we all signed up for, is this part of the change, is there no rules and laws in this country , all over Nigeria women are being raped, people are intimidated, innocent Nigerians are being slaughtered and property worth billions of Naira destroyed by the suspected Fulani Herdsmen”. www.vanguardngr.com/2016/09/suspected-fulani-herdsmen-kidnap-catholic-priest-shoot-2-others-in-anambra/ Cc:lalasticlala Cc:Berlynn Cc: HERSLEY Cc: zinachidi Cc: LordScent |
