Politics / Nigeria Does Not Deserve Biafrans- IPOB by frankdoz1: 6:23pm On May 18, 2016
NIGERIA DOES NOT DESERVE BIAFRANS:

The Indigenous People of Biafra, opted for self-determination after a long period of heart-searching and after making desperate efforts to save the Federation of Nigeria from disintegration. More than any other people in the Federation, Biafrans contributed their human and material resources to the course of national unity. From 1914, when the British amalgamated Biafrans, Hausa/Fulanis and Yorubas as one Nigeria, Biafrans began to leave their homeland in large numbers to settle in several places among the Hausa/Fulanis in the North and the Yoruba in the West. In those areas they opened up new avenues for commerce and industries and at the same time building new homes and erecting places of worship and institutions of learning. By so doing, they came to acquire a real stakein the progress and well-being of all parts of the country. They regarded themselves as citizens of Nigeria to an extent that no other groups in the country has ever done. Wherever Biafrans sojourned, their industriousness, resourcefulness and drive set them apart from their neighbours. In the North, particularly, the distinction was enhanced by religion; for while the majority of the Hausa/Fulanis population were Muslims, the Biafrans were and still remain mostly Christians. In addition, the progress and dynamism of Biafrans contrasted with the tardiness and conservatism of their neighbours who were generally unable to achieve the same standards of efficiency andprosperity.

The envy and animosity the Biafrans excited were manifested periodically, such as in the massacre of Biafrans by Northern Nigerians at Jos in 1945 and at Kano in 1953. While Biafrans abroad were thrusting ahead and setting the pace for the economic development of Nigeria, those in Biafra land were diligently exploiting the human and material resourcesof their homeland. Their ready acceptance of modern ideas and techniques brought them to the forefront of economic and political activities.Democratic by tradition, they championed democratic ideals and at the same time advocated the concept of aunited country. They resolutely opposed the reactionary ideas of the Hausa/Fulani ruling elites whocontrolled the North and dominated the Federal Government. They also resisted the vicious and unscrupulous methods by which the Northerners sought to perpetuate their hold on the political strings of Nigeria. It was largely this confrontation between the forces of progress, represented by Biafrans, and those of reaction, represented by the Hausa/Fulani which culminated in the Nigerian census crisis of 1963- 64, the Federal election crisis of 1964 and the Western Nigeria election crisis of 1965 which brought the military to power in January 1966.During the massacre of 29th May 1966, which was the reaction of the Hausa/Fulani to Unification Decree No. 34 of the Supreme Military Council, Biafrans were the sole victims and there was no discrimination with regard to their individual ethnic origin. The massacre of Biafran army officers and men by their Northern"comrades-in-arms" on 29th of July 1966, and of Biafrancivilians later, followed the same pattern; they were killed only because they were Biafrans. Those who survived the pogrom fled back to their homeland disillusioned and embittered. Their investments in other parts of the Federation had been destroyed and those whom they held dear had been killed or maimed. The families in Biafra who received them back shared their grief, and hardly any family in Biafra escaped the loss of a member or the return of a destitute relative needing relief.

The Northern Assailants showed no signs of remorse. On the contrary they were jubilant over the expulsion ofthe Biafrans in their midst. The Biafrans themselves would never think of going back to expose themselves to the risk of a repeat of their previous harrowing experiences. Thus the pogrom of 1966 resulted in an irreversible movement of population. In spite of all theyhad suffered during earlier massacres and during the more recent pogrom, the people of Biafra sought no revenge but strove strenuously to find a peaceful solution which would keep Nigeria together. The Northerners, on the contrary, rejected every overture, ignored the implementation of agreements which had been mutually arrived at, and relied on their military occupation of Lagos and Western Nigeria to humiliate Biafrans even further.Till date, the born to rule mentality is steal playing in the head of the Hausa/Fulani, In fact it has gone beyond that, Hausa/Fulani are now claiming that the resources in Biafra land belongs to them, and they are doing everything possible to totally exterminate Biafrans, take over their land and enjoy their resources without any opposition. The Hausa/Fulani are using the deadliest terrorist groups to massacre Biafrans in the northern Nigeria and in Biafra land. They are attacking Biafran villages and towns, killing, destroying properties, raping women and destroying farm lands with impunity. These are uncircumcised people, not worthy to clean the foot of a Biafran, I hasten to add. We were forcefully lumped together without consent, and now we seek to go back to the way we were before Lugard came. The world is looking the other way, the international media houses are adamant in reporting the pogrom going on in Biafra land. It is important to add here, that Biafrans have the right to exist as a people, and they must exist. Asking for self-determination is not a crime, self-determination is a universal law, and if it is not meant for a section of people in the world, Biafrans should also have it. UN, EU, US and all concerned, should do the needful to ensure that Biafra is peacefully separated from Nigeria. Free Nnamdi Kanu, Free Biafra.

Biafra: We are tired of Nigeria, give us freedom – IPOB

ByAmeh Comrade Godwinon May 18,2016@dailypostngr

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has declared that the dream for the actualization of Biafra is achievable without blood.President Muhammadu Buhari had during a recent visit to Katsina reportedly said, “for Nigeria to divide now, it is better for all of us to jump into the sea and get drowned.”In a letter to President Buhari by IPOB’s counsel, Emeka Emekesr, the group said the president’s utterances on the issue was crude and prejudicial as the matter was in court.Emekesri also said it was wrong for Buhari to dismiss agitators for the actualisation of the sovereign state of Biafra as “kids who were not born” during the Nigerian Civil War.The IPOB counsel affirmed that the group had no intention to destroy Nigeria.“We respect Nigeria and the Nigerian Government.“Our intention is to set Biafra free from Nigeria by the rule of law and not to destroy Nigeria, just as Eritrea was set free from Ethiopia without destroying Ethiopia; just as South Sudan was set free from Sudan without destroying Sudan; just as Bangladesh and Pakistan were set free fromIndia without destroying India.”He said the Federal Government was facing serious heat from the Biafran legal unit in the case instituted against the government at the Federal High Court, Owerri in 2012 and noted that IPOB would definitely win the case, as it will pursue it to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Hague.
Politics / Now That We Have Arrested Nnamdi Kanu But Can't Stop Radio Biafra, What Next? by frankdoz1: 8:29pm On May 17, 2016
NOW THAT WE HAVE ARRESTED NNAMDI KANU AND YET CAN’T STOPRADIO BIAFRA. WHAT NEXT?....Part 1

‘’I know that I shall meet my fate somewhere among the clouds above for those that I fight I do not hate, those that I guard I don’t not love’’…………William Butler YeatsI must confess, the Nigeria that I fight for I do not love, Biafra that I have been paid to fight against I do not hate. Am just a victim of the power game. If I reject the mouthwatering package that am paid to join the fight against Biafra, I will be accused of selling-out, wastinga golden opportunity and even my family has threatened to disown me if I ever contemplate the idea.To them, it’s a God answered prayer and a once in a lifetime opportunity. That is not even the main issue, the man issue is that ifI quit now the state will ‘seal my fate’. Off course, I know that in this power game that I will definitely meetmy fate someday somewhere either amongst those that I love not but fight for or those that I hate not but fight against. I know that it is inevitable but for now amsadly following the rules of command of my calling.Read also:BETWEEN IPOB, DSS AND HITLER BUHARI: WHO ARE THE TERRORISTS?Am made to know or do I say that am made to believe that ensuring the unity, indivisibility and continued togetherness of the territory called Nigeria is my calling in life? They say that if I allow anything otherwise to happen to unity of Nigeria that I would have failed in my duty and also in my vow. Although am supposed to be enjoying the goodies embedded in my offer of service yet am not happy. How can I be happy when daily am made to go againstthose that have never harmed me before? We (I and myteam) are not only made to just go against them but also made to hate them thus the standing order during every routine instruction is for us to initiate plans that will have them CRUSHED.Am sad that the Biafrans that am paid to killed, punish, maim and send to the gaol have never wronged me. Sadly enough, those that sent me to harm Biafrans have never done me right either. They daily want us to do injustices to Biafrans but also daily denied us and our kinsmen justices. Am presently at a cross road.Am torn between following the command of my pay masters which is to get result: To make sure that coming of Biafra is stopped and soonest too and obeying the command of the silent audible voice that hits me daily asking me: why have you joined them to vow never to allow freedom for the children of Biafra – my chosen people? The voice usually end by urging meto be reminded of the lessons from Haman and Mordecai story.Read also:SAMSON BABALOLA OF DSS: SHEDDING CROCODILE TEARS WILL NOT FOOL HUMANITYThis is my story. Story of an unusual destiny. I Am Abdullah Abubakar (not real names). I work with the DSS. Yes! You heard me right. I work with the Department of Security Service now christened Gestapo –DSS by Biafrans. In the whole of my many years of working with the organization I have never been so disorganized, so sad and so resultless like I am are presently. We have worked harder than ever in attempts to stop the issues associated with the coming of Biafra from being at the front burner but the more we try the more it seems that we are losing it.We were made to believe that arresting Nnamdi Kanu would land a devastating blow to the Biafrans, shatter their aspirations, disorganize them and eventually make them give up on the struggle. In our foolishness, we threw caution to the air and put all energy and resources into getting Nnamdi Kanu arrested and eventually succeeded. We rejoiced, danced and breathea sigh of relief that we have finally gotten him. However, in a twist of fate, his arrest which was supposed to be a genesis of the end of the Biafra struggle became the genesis of the announcement of the seriousness of the Biafrans to get Biafra restored. If only we had the benefit of hindsight am sure we would have done things differently.Read also:INVASION OF NNAMDI KANU’S ROOM IN KUJE PRISON - AN ACT OF FRUSTRATION.We were made to believe that we will disorganize the struggle by taking their leader out which will mark the end of the struggle unfortunately we failed to take cognisance that media blackout that the former government made IPOB suffer gave them an opportunity to build a super administrative structure that is second to none. What is confusing about this case is that they told us that nobody will come for him when arrested that he is not in the good book of ALL the Igbo leaders and elites. They claimed that he was only mouthing on air and actually had nobody on the ground unfortunately we now know better. We allowed the words of his accusers that he had nobody on ground that IPOB under his leadership was a mere facebook freedom fighters to fool us. I must admit that we under estimated their resolve. We were simply blinded by the promise to get him at all means. The worse is that even after getting him; Biafrans still march to Radio Biafra’s explosive beat. There is only one reason for that, It’s simply because we have failed to stop radio Biafra. Who would believe that with the calibre of highly trained personnel that we have in our payroll that we can’t jam nor permanently stop this explosive beat marched to on daily basis by Biafrans as produced by 'ordinary' Radio Biafra? All our attempts to close down radio Biafra have always ended in a ‘’successful failure’’.After weeks, months and now a year of ‘’successful failure’’ attempts of stopping these Biafrans, I have come to the inevitable conclusion, infact am now convinced that there is only but just one set of people that are capable of stopping this Biafran struggle and it’s the Biafrans themselves.Written By Chuks IkedigwePublished By Nwosu C.SArtist: Judy ChidimmaFor Biafra Writers

Is Buhari Accidentally Leading Nigeria to a Breakup?Clifford IroanyaMay 17, 2016

Retired Major General Muhammadu Buhari has done more than anybody in the history of Nigeria to divide and dismember the British-created Nigeria. Buhari hassignificantly catalyzed and fast-forwarded the restoration of the nation of Biafra. Without the efforts ofBuhari, the crescendo reached today on the return of the nation of Biafra would not have been possible. From bombing of Cross River and Akwa Ibom States with the banned NAPALM bombs, through the genocidal killings of Biafrans from August 2015 to February 2016, and to the utter disregard of court orders, Buhari has steadily and consistently worked in the favor of the re-emergence of Biafra. The irrelevanceto which former President Goodluck Jonathan consigned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) was reversed by Buhari, all to the advantage of Biafrans. There are several factors that propelled Buhari to quicken the restoration of Biafra. Among these are the blood-thirsty nature of Buhari and the neo-Hitler attitudes of this despot. Another big factor is the misinformation he received from his incompetent Department of State Services (DSS) who deceived him into believing that incarcerating the leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, will work in his favor. There is alsohis belief in using weapons and brute force to solve simple political problems. Today, it is evident that if anybody is in danger in the entire Nigeria, it is attributable to Buhari. This man is an incarnate of Mohamed Siad Barre of Somalia and the outcome is the ongoing dismemberment of Nigeria and the quickened restoration of the nation of Biafra.Just like his role model Mohamed Siad Barre, Buhari has indulged in crimes against humanity and in selective cum partisan indictments. For instance, he ordered the unlawful arrest, detention and public intimidation of Femi Fani-Kayode for standing up for the truth when most Yoruba so-called elites are terrified to speak. The condemnable barbaric slaughterof hundreds of innocent Shiite Muslims in Zaria and unwarranted illegal detention of their leader Zakzaky are all contributing to the calamitous collapse of the Lugard-created Nigeria. Why Fani-Kayode is being detained for alleged fraud while Chibuike Amechi and Bola Ahmed Tinubu are allowed to walk freely is beyond human comprehension. Why arrest Fani-Kayode, a Yoruba man, when a Hausa-Fulani man called Ibrahim Lamorde, a former Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) boss that stole Four Trillion Naira is free to enjoy his loot? Why arrest Fani-Kayode for corruption when Halliburton scandal involving mainly Hausa-Fulani people is yet to be investigated? From his terrible public utterances, to his divisive and sectional government policies, through his placement of only Hausa-Fulani people in his “kitchen cabinet“, tokilling of Biafrans and Shiite Muslims, Buhari has worked tirelessly for the balkanization of Nigeria. The Indigenous People of Biafra are happy for this leadership style of Buhari. We pray that he continues unceasingly. Even the illegal incarceration and unconstitutional prosecution of the leader of IPOB haveworked maximally to the favour of Biafrans. We urge Buhari to continue and not to stop because we want to see the independent nation of Biafra come very soon and Buhari is speedily bringing it to fruition.CommentsBiafraBuhariFani-Kayode

GET READY! IPOB TWO MILLION MANPEACEFUL MEGA PROTEST COMING UP SOON

FROM BIAFRA WRITERS DESK

This is to notify Biafrans all over the world, that we are set to hit the streets once again, but this time like neverwitnessed before. The ICC prosecutor delegate, who recently arrived Nigeria, has indicated interest to witness our peaceful protest. This is why we say that this protest is going to be one of a kindThis march is in solidarity with the indefatigable leaderof the Indigenous People Of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, who was kidnapped by Muhammadu Buhari's executive thugs, the DSS. It is also in honour of our fallen heroes, who met their untimely death, in the hands of the greatest murderer the world has ever seen- Buhari, through his murderous army. The peaceful protest shall be kicking off in two weeks time at the most. Date, time and venue will be communicated to all Biafrans via their coordinators.Recall that during the last occupy protest organised in Aba, Biafrans were tear-gassed, maimed, brutalised and gunned down while singing and praying to God Almighty. They were harmless men and women praying for the release of our leader Nnamdi Kanu, and above all, the quick restoration of the sovereign state ofBiafra, at the National High School Aba, Abia State. They were killed simply because they were unarmed-civilized Biafrans, who have always been non-violent.This gory incident, went viral all over the internet and media houses. It sparked outrage from Biafrans, foreign media and the people of goodwill at large.Buhari's hatred towards the people of Biafra, although widely unbelievable by many who know him not, became very conspicuous. The penchant for killing Biafrans with impunity, by the Muhammadu Buhari- led government is an already established fact which the whole of humanity has come to know; through his unremorseful disposition, which became evident especially during his last mediachat with the local Television stations in Nigeria, and Aljazeera Tv. When the Interviewer sought to know Buhari's opinion on the Aba massacre by a quick move to play the video, he (Buhari) bluntly refused to watch it. In furtherance of his genocidal disposition, he had the effontery to remind Biafrans of how they were killedin millions, from 1967-1970, by the Chief Genocidist Gen.Yakubu Jack Gowon, under whose command he (Buhari) perpetrated great evil. Buhari played a major role in the Owerri massacre, where harmless civilians including men and women were killed. We have once again decided to march, we are not going to stop this march. We must march! This peaceful protest will resound all over the world. The world will be forced to talk about it, especially nowthat Buhari alongside his menions, are currently being investigated by the International Criminal Court ( ICC).It will be fool-hardy for Muhammadu Hitler Buhari to conceive in the inner recess of his mind that the Aba massacre will demoralise us, No it can never! Many have died for this noble cause, and as such the thought of conceeding defeat will be too far from us. Their death to us alive, is and will always be our morale and strenght in the face of adversities to come.If we stop now, their souls will never find rest. Their only consolation will be to see Buhari and his henchmen, the DSS, Army and the Nigerian Police cooling off their eels in the Hague prison, and above all,the total obliteration of the giant fraud called Nigeria, from world map.Biafrans should sound the alarm, shout it loud, spread the news of this two million man Peaceful mega Protest coming up, because we are about to march again in grand style. This protest will definitely shake and break the foundation of the Lugardian enterprise called Nigeria. This is not a venture for cowards and talkatives, this a noble endeavour for the very hardcore. Those of you who have vowed with Nnamdi Kanu that it is BIAFRA OR DEATH, the time is not tomorrow but now. Now, therefore, I, Lieutenant-Colonel Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Military Governor of Eastern Nigeria, by virtue of the authority, and pursuant to the principles, recited above, do hereby solemnly proclaim that the territory and region known as and called Eastern Nigeria together with her continental shelf and territorial waters shall henceforth be an independent sovereign state of the name and title of "The Republic of Biafra".

Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu [10] Biafra as a territory existed long before the amalgamation and independence of Nigeria as a republic. Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu in pursuit of a more agreeable arrangement for peaceful co-existence of all regions in Nigeria proposed for a confederated Nigeria. In January 1967, the military leaders and senior police officials of each region met in Aburi , Ghana and agreed on a loose confederation of regions. The Northerners were at odds with the Aburi Accord ; Obafemi Awolowo , the leader of the Western Region warned that if the Eastern Region seceded, the Western Region would also, which persuaded the northerners.[9]

After the federal and eastern governments failed to reconcile, on 26 May the Eastern region voted to secede from Nigeria. On 30 May, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, the South Eastern Region's military governor, announced the Republic of Biafra, citing the Easterners killed in the post-coup violence.[5][9][11] The large amount of oil in the region created conflict, as oil is a major component of the Nigerian economy. [12] The Eastern region was very ill-equipped for war, out- manned and out-gunned by the military of the remainder of Nigeria. Their advantages included fighting in their homeland and support of most South Easterners. [13]

War The FMG launched "police measures" to annex the Eastern Region on 6 July 1967. The FMG's initial efforts were unsuccessful; the Biafrans successfully launched their own offensive, occupying areas in the mid-Western Region in August 1967. By October 1967, the FMG had regained the land after intense fighting. [9][14] In September 1968, the federal army planned what Gowon described as the "final offensive". Initially the final offensive was neutralised by Biafran troops. In the latter stages, a Southern FMG offensive managed to break through the fierce resistance. [9]

During the war there were great shortages of food and medicine throughout Biafra, due largely to the Nigerian government's blockade of the region as suggested by a good number of arguments by leaders of the Nigerian Government: Chief Anthony Enahoro, stated that "there are various ways of fighting a war. You might starve your enemy into submission, or you might kill him on the battlefield." Chief Obafemi Awolowo said "ALL is fair in war, and starvation is one of the weapons of war and I don't see why we should feed our enemies in order for them to fight harder." Many volunteer bodies organised the Biafran airlift which provided blockade-breaking relief flights into Biafra, carrying food and medicines in, and later provided means of evacuation for refugee children. On 30 June 1969, the Nigerian government banned all Red Cross aid to Biafra; two weeks later it allowed medical supplies through the front lines, but restricted food supplies. [14] Later in October 1969, Ojukwu appealed to the United Nations to mediate a cease-fire . The federal government called for Biafra's surrender. In December, the FMG managed to cut Biafra in half, primarily by the efforts of 3 Marine Commando Division of the Nigerian Army, led by then Colonel Benjamin Adekunle , popularly called "The Black Scorpion", and later by Olusegun Obasanjo . Ojukwu fled to Ivory Coast, leaving his chief of staff, Philip Effiong, to act as the "officer administering the government". Effiong called for a cease-fire 12 January and submitted to the FMG. [9] More than one million people had died in battle or from starvation.[15][16] Biafra was reabsorbed into Nigeria on 15 January.

The most visible sign that Leadership in Igboland has completely collapsed is the assumption of leadership roles by IPOB, MASSOB, and the likes with the attendant but avoidable massacre of some, and incarceration of others. It’s a pity that the South East Governors Forum has lost its voice in Nigeria.I appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari to release Nnamdi Kanu as hisgrievances could have been better managed under a vibrant, visionary and recognizable Igbo leadership. As a Global Negotiator, my faith in negotiated agreements remains sacrosanct.

BIAFRA : EUROPEAN UNION ABOUT TO RECOGNIZE BIAFRA , SEE WHAT THE FOREIGN AFFAIRS SAIDBrussels:

The OEAS called for the European Union High Representative forForeign Affairs and Security to utilize their good office to help bring about a Referendum on Biafra Independence. The OEAS has also called for release of all Biafran political prisoners, a stand down of Nigerian forces, and a snap referendum to be held within 90 days.ALSO READ: JUST IN!!! We’re Following Very Closely the Biafra Agitation in Nigeria, Says European UnionMrs. Mogherini who handles the foreign affairs portfolio for the European Union responded on January 18 to the OEAS Chief Administrative Officer, Dr., Jonathan Levy, regarding the question of a Biafra referendum. The European Union’s official position is that while it has strong diplomatic and economic ties with Nigeria, “Protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms remains a priority for the EU and we encourage theauthorities [Nigeria] in every occasion to respect such rights.”The EU went on to advise the OEAS and Biafrans that self-determination and border changes must be in accordance with established international law. The OEAS has called for an internationally recognized referendum on Biafra independence or autonomy. The EU has indicated it will only recognize a Biafra born via international law and not armed secession. Independence; To achieve a referendum, the OEAS advises all nonviolent means should be utilized including general strikes, economic boycotts, work actions, demonstrations, lawsuits, and civil disobedience. Politics / Why I Support Biafra Protests-fmr Governor Aliero by frankdoz1: 1:53pm On Jan 19, 2016
Why I Support Biafra Protests – Fmr. Governor Aliero

Former governor of Kebbi State, Senator Adamu Aliero is in support of pro-Biafra protests but it is not because he wants Nigeria to break apart. In an interview with Vanguard, Aliero said the protesters have theright to demand for self-determination.“I believe in unity of Nigeria and in its indivisibility. For that, I am against the agitation for the sovereign state of Biafra,” Aliero said. “However, they have every right to protest. If there are genuine complaints or grievances, there is nothing wrong in people coming out to express their feelings.“If there are genuine grievances, either inrepresentation in the appointments at the federal level or any organs of the government for that matter, you can come out and forward such to government. And government is duty-bound to address it. But without exhausting that avenue, you start agitating for succession, or break up of the country, I don’t think Nigerians will support that.“I saw a situation during the last National Conference, where people came out with a determined position, an agenda which they were bent to push through which, of course, could have ledto the break up of the country. But, whenwe started talking, we came to an agreement that Nigeria must remain an indivisible entity, irrespective of our grievances. We have more to gain by living together than breaking up. Nigeria is better as a united country.“It will be more prosperous, more attractive for foreign investors, than breaking up and each of the units tries to survive on its own. I don’t believe in that. I believe in being my brother’s keeper. God in His own wisdom brought us together through the instrumentality of colonialism. And we have come to love each other. Of course, there would be disagreement here and there. Even between man and wife, there are disagreements, but you sit down and dialogue. This is what I believe should happen. And for that reason, the agitation for Biafra is belated. It happened in the 60s. You cannot take us back to that era. We need to move ahead,” Aliero told Vanguard.
Politics / Who Cares About Biafra Anyway?-american Harvard Crimson by frankdoz1: 8:09am On Jan 10, 2016
This is another story about Biafra. We all know about Biafra--it's where a million people have starved to death in the past six months. One million people. Think about that for a minute. There are almost five thousand Harvard undergraduates. If each one of us died two hundred times, that would be almost a million deaths. Almost, but not quite. Yes, we all know about Biafra.

THE UNITED STATES government never meaningfully recognized that the Biafran situation existed until this month. The government had not even breathed the possibility of official U.S. recognition of Biafra as a nation, predominantly as a result of the archaic "one- Nigeria" policy which America inherited from Britain and has guided State Department attitudes toward West Africa for years.

Earlier this month the State Department sent a six-man fact-finding mission to examine the needs of both Nigeria and Biafra and to make recommendations to the U.S. government about the necessary forms and amount of possible aid. Senator Charles E. Goodell (R.-N.Y.), accompanied by his administrative assistant--Charles W. Dunn--was in charge of the mission's diplomatic aspects.

Four experts on African problems, led by Jean Mayer, professor of Nutrition at the School of Public Health, also treked to Biafra. They made detailed studies of the supplies and health of both sides of the conflict, but they concentrated on Biafra because of the huge gaps in America's knowledge of the situation there due to the lack of diplomatic links with that area. Mayer said "At least this (the mission) means the State Department realizes that Biafra will probably survive for at least the immediate future."

The Mission has prepared a 36-page report, edited by Mayer, which calls for an immediate ceasefire as the only way to provide adequate food and medical supplies, a halt of the atrocities being committed against Biafran civilians, and a huge increase in the amount of relief supplies. The report blasts the United States and the United Nations, except UNICEF, for their failure to aid the Biafrans. In a foreward to the report, Sen. Goodell states "It was our purpose to fill America's factual void" on Biafra. "May these findings bestir the world's leaders to prevent an indirect form of genocide."

Right now, with the report still at the printer's, it's a moot point whether or not America will carry out the report's recommendations. Chances are good when you consider that Goodell is a leading Republican and that Nixon seemed to smile at the Mission's purposes. On the debit side is the influence of Great Britain, who, along with the Russians, are arming the Nigerians. No matter what the State Department does with the report, or doesn't do, if this report of starvation doesn't stir well-fed America, perhaps, as E. E. Cummings once suggested, we'd better "Burry the Statue of Liberty because it begins to stink like hell."

BEFORE the civil war, Biafra differed from most developing nations because it had a good supply of food and water, and sound public health policies with many physicians, nurses, hospitals, and clinics. Following the slaughter of 40,000 Ibos in 1966, about two million Ibos and other minority groups left their positions throughout Nigeria and fled to Biafra. Additional refugees continue to pour into Biafra to avoid capture by the Nigerian troops who have gained a reputation for slaughtering whole villages.

While Biafra originally encompassed 29,000 square miles, present boundaries now enclose only about one-fourth of that area. This remaining territory is totally landlocked and does not contain the former Biafra's most fertile land. The Mission asserts that somewhere between eight and nine million Biafrans live in this area, although many previous estimates have been as low as four million.
Politics / Biafran Passport Does Not Exist-fg by frankdoz1: 7:52am On Jan 10, 2016
The controversy behind the issuance of the Biafra passport by the former leader of Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) Chief Ralph Uwazuruike may still linger for some time.
Ohaneze Diaspora , a group made of Igbos in the diaspora at a time observed that the inability of the federal government to thoroughly correct the problems and challenges of marginalisation of the Igbos is one of the reasons that has brought up issues like that of the Biafra passport.
Reports from The Telegraph newspaper of Saturday, January 9 revealed that several federal government agencies in charge of issuing important documents like the International Passport have all washed off their hands in anything like an Igbo passport after information made known by the factional and new leader of the MASSOB, Uchenna Madu. READ ALSO: Igbo Group Tells Government To Release Kanu
The revelation of Madu is coming after he parted ways with the founder and former leader of the group, Uwazuruike. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its part affirmed that there was nothing like the production and issuing of a United States of Biafra passport. Mr. Ogbole Amedu-Odeh, a director in the Public Communications division of the foreign ministry while speaking to newsmen on the matter said he does not have knowledge of anything like the distribution of a Biafra passport in the country. He said: “I don’t know anything about any Biafran passport. I am not aware that it exists. But good luck to whoever is using it to travel.” In the same vein, Mr. Ekpedeme King, who is the public relations officer (PRO) of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) revealed that he has never set his eyes on the talked about Igbo passport. He said this so because no one has yet been apprehended at the major airports in connection to the passport being part of the travelling document presented.
Politics / OEAS Petition European Union Over Biafra-247nigerian News by frankdoz1: 10:09pm On Dec 08, 2015
Washington DC: Biafra is a charter member of the Organization of Emerging African States (OEAS), an international governmental organization that promotes self-determination and the end to colonial era boundaries in Africa. Today the OEAS has petitioned EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security,Federica Mogherini, on the issue of the Biafra Referendum.
The OEAS has asked the European External Action Service to utilize its good offices to help prevent a cataclysm of immense proportions in Nigeria by supporting the Biafra Referendum on Self Determination and its preconditions including a stand down of federal armed forces and the immediate release of Biafran activists from jail. The EU High Representative is reminded that the EU can ill afford to see a massive conflict in Africa’s most populous country with the largest economy and military. Nigeria is already reeling from decades of corruption and an apparently unstoppable ISIS led Boko Haram insurgency. The OEAS points out that Biafrans at Ontisha have chosen Liberty and will even face Death if necessary to achieve their basic human rights of self-determination.
Ms. Mogherini is in the position of stopping a potential human catastrophe of Biblical proportions before it begins by prevailing on President Buhari to allow democracy to take its course.

Politics / Biafra On My Mind- Nigeria by frankdoz1: 8:19am On Dec 08, 2015
I am a child of Biafra. I was born on the eve of that avoidable and internecine civil war. My father fought in that war on the side of Biafra. I have sat through many hours of interview to get a glimpse, from his personal experience, of what happened. At 81, my father still has very vivid memories of the civil war. He tells me there is nothing to be ashamed of fighting in that war which he joined willingly after failed attempts to conscript him. For him, Biafra was the product of our bungling of our independence, our nationhood; and those who prosecuted the war on both sides mismanaged it. During our last discussion earlier in the year on this issue, in light of renewed agitation for the actualisation of Biafra, my father reminded me that the civil war ended 45 years ago and that today’s Nigeria is, in many ways, different from the Nigeria of 1967 when the war broke out. Of course, as a journalist and student of history, I didn’t need to be told that Nigeria of 2015 is not my father’s Nigeria. I have lived through it. My father is not naïve or in denial. When he says things are different in many respects, he understands that there are still issues of injustice and alienation across the country. However, he points to the fact that structurally Nigeria is not what it used to be; but, more important, we have the benefit of a 30-month civil war. We can learn from that war in dealing with contemporary problems. I would add to my father’s position the fact that today’s Nigeria is not the sum total of its “ethnic nationalities.” So, while I believe Nigeria is negotiable, I do not think any attempt to negotiate Nigeria can and should be done solely on the basis of ethnic, religious or cultural affinity. That is my position on the Biafra issue. In this sense, I am uncomfortable with those who see the Biafra agitation necessarily as an Igbo problem. It is in the same vein that I do not see, for example, the herdsmen issue as a Fulani problem. We may deplore the antics of Nnamdi Kanu, director of Radio Biafra, and his Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) movement; we may be genuinely concerned about the activities of all parties in the Fulani herdsmen issue. But in the end, the question that we should be asking is, how has the Nigerian state addressed the many faults lines and centrifugal forces that are threatening to rip the country asunder? Adeolu Ademoyo’s piece titled “Biafran secessionist call, a national, not an Igbo question” which appeared in Premium Times on December 6, 2015, put the issue in proper perspective. The central argument of Ademoyo’s piece is that we need to see the Biafra agitation and sundry agitations that threaten the unity and stability of the country as a Nigerian problem and not the problem of the group or people pushing it. Since the national question goes beyond an “ethnic problem” or “identity politics” as Ademoyo rightly contends, we must continue to dialogue even as we seek to build a perfect union. When we come to this realisation, we can then begin the long and arduous task of framing a collective national ethos which will accommodate every Nigerian. The explanation for our current dilemma can be found in the failure of our rulers in the last fifty-five years to build a nation out of what was handed to us at independence. I do not think, however, that it is too late to start the process of reconstructing Nigeria in the image of Nigerians – the ethnic nationalities and other interests that make up the country. In the midst of the name-calling, rhetoric and chutzpah that have dominated the Biafra debate, three points stand out. One, the immediate danger the agitation poses for ordinary Nigerians who just want a space to live in peace in the midst of debilitating conditions occasioned by corruption and mismanagement of the country; two, replicating the knee-jerk response of successive governments in Nigeria to similar agitations in the past; and three, perhaps most important, what lessons we can draw from the current impasse. There is enough from history to tell us that we need to address the Biafra agitation constructively and quickly too. The government can’t adopt the approach of, “the leaves are dying then cut off the branches.” Yes, we have the problem of corruption, of building our educational and health sectors and providing basic social services for our blighted country and impoverished citizens. But we have a bigger and fundamental question, that of national cohesion. Truth is that we have a deeply fractured nation and we can only ignore that reality at our own peril. There are those who still think and feel that the civil war is far from over; that the cheque of “no victor, no vanquished” issued 45 years ago was indeed a dud cheque. The feeling of alienation is real. There are millions of our compatriots across Nigeria for whom this country provides no succour; there are millions who feel they have no stake in Nigeria; millions who feel they have been left out of the gains that independence ought to bring. I don’t think there is anything immoral or criminal for Nigerians – from the East, West, North or South – who feel justifiably aggrieved or oppressed in a federation to seek to address such grievances or oppression. While the current agitation by Nnamdi Kanu and his Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) movement to wage war against Nigeria can’t be the solution, it affords us the opportunity once again to interrogate Nigeria. And it is simply because we have refused to do so that Kanu and others like him across the country have thrived over the years. That interrogation will, among other things, help the young men and women lining up behind Nnamdi Kanu understand why the question of independence for Biafra, whatever it means, is no answer to the problem of poverty and unemployment confronting them. That interrogation will explain why our states and local governments in a supposed federation have abdicated their responsibilities and become mere appendages of the federal government; why our state governors run to Abuja every month to collect their share of the national cake; why the states in the federation have nothing to show for the trillions of naira that have accrued to them in the last 16 years since the return to civilian rule. Of course, this is not about the governors of the states in the south-east zone of the country, but for the purposes of argument, it will be interesting to find out how much the governors in the zone have collected (and generated?) since 1999 and how that has impacted the lives of citizens in that zone. In the end, the different manifestation of Biafra may well be a metaphor. To that extent, we are all Biafrans as long as we seek to confront the clear and present danger. Yes, our rulers have contributed to the near collapse of a country that held so much promise at independence 55 years ago. Yes, we are so far gone in this ruinous path, but I think we can still retrace our steps. What the current situation calls for is a bold attempt to confront Nigeria’s seemingly intractable problem: the structure of our federation! Now is the time to expand the debate on Nigeria’s federalism. My take is that we can build the new Nigeria of our dreams around what I call a “civic federation” that provides justice and equal opportunities for every Nigerian; a federation where every Nigerian can live in peace, work and have a future wherever they find themselves, irrespective of place of birth, ethnic nationality or creed; a country where governance will be localized and states and local government can make laws and have the capacity to enforce such laws within the context of a greater national interest. That is the conversation we should be having now in our workplaces, newspaper stands, viewing centres and ultimately at the national assembly; that is, if our legislators can find time from their busy schedule of chasing social media activists. That is the only way to overcome the violent and dangerous ideology of Nnamdi Kanu and others like him! —Onumah could be reached at: conumah@hotmail.com; Twitter: @conumah Posted by on December 7, 2015, 9:12 am. Politics / Nigeria: Police Deny Killings Of Pro-biafras In Anambra And Call For Dialogue by frankdoz1: 7:28am On Dec 08, 2015
The Nigerian police has denied killing pro-Biafan protesters during a march in Onitsha, Anambra state, in the early hours of 2 December. Oleehkukyu Ali, spokesperson for the police in Anambra, told IBTimes UK police forces were deployed because the protest was disrupting the peace. Pro-Biafans hold regular marches across several states in south-eastern Nigeria calling for the independence of territories that constituted the Biafran Republic, established in 1967 and reannexed to Nigeria in 1970, following a civil war that claimed between one and three million lives. Why advertise with us Rallies have intensified since Nnamdi Kanu – director of Radio Biafra and the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (Ipob) – was arrested in Lagos in October on charges of criminal conspiracy, intimidation and belonging to an unlawful society. He pleaded not guilty. Ipob members told IBTimes UK that during the 2 December protest – in which an estimated 20,000 people took part – Nigeria's Joint Military Task Force (JTF) allegedly shot dead at least nine people and injured 18. However, Ali denied the allegations and said: "Recent processions were very peaceful, but last Wednesday the procession was marred by violence. At 10pm on Tuesday [1 December] I was sent to speak with the protesters as they had barricaded the highway in Anambra. "People had blocked the road that stretched up to the Bridge Head. Firemen and police cleared the road but at that point demonstrators blocked another part of the highway. We told them to evacuate the road and when they said no, we cleared the road because people had been stuck in traffic for hours." Pro-Biafra protesters 'killed by task force' Pro-Biafra protester Nkiruka was allegedly killed by the military task force in Onitsha, Anambra state, on 2 December (Ipob) Content some readers may find distressing or offensive. Viewer discretion is advised Click to display Why advertise with us Ali went on alleging that the protesters carried out arson attacks on nine trucks and at the central mosque in Onitsha. However, Ipob and Massob (Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra) denied the allegations and maintained that acts of violence were not carried out by pro-Biafrans. After being repeatedly asked whether the police and army killed or injured any of the protesters, Ali said: "There was no record of deaths, actually one police member was injured and later died at the hospital. We are not after Pro-Biafrans, we did not shoot, we only cleared the road. Pro-Biafrans should inform the police before they intend to hold marches, so that we can liaise and provide security too and can make sure infiltrators will not hijack situations. But every time, they defy these instructions." This is not the first time that pro-Biafrans accused the police of violence. In an exclusive report by IBTimes UK, Amnesty International claimed that there was "credible evidence that pro-Biafran separatists in Nigeria are targeted by police". The police however, have always denied the allegations. Why advertise with us Massob and Ipob Massob and Ipob have claimed several times they are not related. Both movements accuse each other of violent propaganda and actions. According to Ipob members, violent actions blamed on Massob smear pro- Biafrans' reputation and are used by the government to claim the whole movement is violent. The Nigerian government has deemed Massob as an extremist group. Its leader Ralph Uwazuruike was arrested in 2005 on treason charges. He was released two years later. Uwazuruike announced on 6 December the group had been renamed Biafra Independent Movement, BIM. He explained the decision was necessary following violent actions by internal dissidents. He said during a press conference in Owerri, capital of Imo state: "The change in name became absolutely necessary because of the sad introduction of violence by the disgruntled dissidents and this is at variance with the non-violence stance of Massob over the years." Uwazuruike also alleged he had recruited Kanu in 1989 and appointed him as the director of Radio Biafra. "He started preaching hatred and brainwashing the youths. Massob sacked him." Ipob denies the allegations.
Politics / Igbos Have The Right To Clamour For Self Determination-orji Uzor Kalu by frankdoz1: 7:18am On Dec 07, 2015
IPOB women give 7-day ultimatum to FG over Kanu S-East not advocating secession — Ebonyi govt By Kenneth Ehigiator, Chidi Nkwopara, Daniel Eteghe, Peter Okutu , Ugochukwu Alaribe & Chimaobi Nwaiwu In a strategy designed to separate himself from a controversial movement that parades two factions, the leader of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, has announced a new name, Biafra Independent Movement, BIM, for the group. This came as former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu declared that the Igbo have the full right to agitate for self-determination. Chief Uwazuruike, who made the announcement, yesterday, while addressing the press in Owerri, also said that he was irked by the bad corporate image some dissidents of MASSOB, were attracting to the group. “The change in name became absolutely necessary because of the sad introduction of violence by the disgruntled dissidents and this is at variance with the non-violence stance of MASSOB over the years,” Uwazuruike said. He said that real loyalists of MASSOB feel ashamed to be associated with violence, promising that they will restructure MASSOB to make it the youth wing of the Biafra Independent Movement. While saying that there is vicarious liability in civil law, Chief Uwazuruike equally recalled how he recruited Nnamdi Kanu in 1989, to head Radio Biafra. “I recruited Nnamdi Kanu in 1989, when I established Radio Biafra and appointed him the director of the establishment. He started preaching hatred and brainwashing the youths. MASSOB sacked him,” Uwazuruike recalled. Answering a question, Uwazuruike said he had been imprisoned 16 times in the past and wondered why and how the heavens should fall because Kanu was incarcerated for just one month. He pleaded with the Federal Government to release Kanu and Benjamin Onwuka, a former student of Emmanuel College, Owerri, and chieftain of MASSOB, who had been in prison for years. Uwazuruike reminded those preaching violence that Biafra could not be achieved through violence, pointing out that, “the South East is landlocked and there is no way we can win the battle for freedom through violence.” He reminded followers of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, that if they close the Niger Bridge for one month or more, it will not affect activities in either Lagos or Abuja. “Closing the Niger Bridge will only scuttle the business activities of Ndigbo. The protest in the South East, as arranged and implemented by IPOB, ended up unleashing a high degree of suffering on Ndigbo ,” Uwazuruike said. He, however, blamed the Directorate of State Services, DSS, for bungling the arrest, detention and prosecution of Mr. Kanu. “The DSS is largely responsible for the protest. They arrested Kanu, charged him for bailable offences and the court granted him bail, but the DSS refused to release him. They later came up with treason charges and asked the court to give them 90 days to conclude investigations. This cannot hold in democracy,” Uwazuruike said. The right to clamour Similarly, former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State affirmed that the right of the Igbo had been embedded in the United Nation’s charter, which gave them the full right to ask for a secession if they were no longer comfortable in living together as one country called Nigeria. Chief Raph Uwazuruike and Late Ojukwu Chief Raph Uwazuruike and Late Ojukwu Speaking to newsmen at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, he stressed that the way and manner the youths were going about the demonstration was wrong as they had turned what was supposed to be a peaceful protest into violent killings and destruction of properties. He said: “Those boys are right, they have a right to demonstrate, but not violent demonstration, not killing soldiers because if I am a Commander- in -Chief, and you kill one of my soldiers, I will kill everybody. You cannot kill soldiers. You cannot kill police. You have a right to say no, we want our own Republic. The United Nations charter gives them the right to ask for self- determination. It is not a right of determination to go and destroy people’s properties, to go and destroy Nigerian Armed Forces, whether it is Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy or Nigerian Police. These are not the rights. They have the right to speak for self- determination. This is the full right. “If I am president, I will set up either traditional rulers and some political leaders to go and ask the boys what they really want, what is really their problem, what can be done to stop them from asking for this. This is how Boko Haram started killing members of Catholic Church, and as a Catholic, I spoke vehemently against it. I told you airport correspondents that they will finish killing the Catholic and will go and start killing everybody and it happened. “When kidnapping just started, then I was governor, they were kidnapping white people and I spoke out. I said when they finished kidnapping white people and there were no more white man to kidnap, they would start kidnapping us and that is what is happening in the country today. “So, I will advise the Federal Government. This is a federation, you need to manage the federation. Some people must ask for self-determination. It is the management of the people that matters. President Buhari, as a matter of fact, should set out traditional rulers, set out people, set out securities and intelligent agencies to intervene. They should be more intelligent than policemen or military people carrying guns. They should find a way and tell the boys that what they are doing is not the right thing to do. So, it is left for the Federal Government. This is the right time to nip the agitation in the bud, but not by force. It is a wrong strategy hearing people saying that we will quench it by force. We cannot quench anything by force because it is their right to ask for self- determination. “But is it the right thing to do in a bigger country like ours? It is only a president that doesn’t know what he wants that will want a section of his country to go. I think negotiation is part of democracy . I have seen your Enugu-Port Harcourt, Aba-Umahia express road that have not been built, I will build it in two years, I have seen your Awka-Onitsha express way that is not built, I will build it in two years, I have seen that your Umuahia- Ohafia to Aruchukuwu to Cross River express way is not built, I will do it. I have seen that your Arondizuogu- Okigwe express way is not done, I will do it. I have seen your Enugu to Makurdi express way is bad, people are dying there every day, which was what I quarrelled with the government over it in 2001. “I said our roads are bad. Federal roads are very bad and they are taking it for granted. Check what I have said ten years ago, they are reccurring today and the government is still playing with it, people are still doing politics with it,” he stressed. 7-day ultimatum Meantime, women members of the IPOB have handed a seven day ultimatum calling on the Federal Government to release the detained leader of the group, Nnamdi Kanu, or face its wrath. The women, who were dressed in Biafran emblems and Kanu’s portraits, vowed to embark on the next stage of its struggle to free Kanu including several activities which they claimed will embarrass the Federal Government. The group, who handed the ultimatum while protesting along the Enyimba area and the Ariaria junction of the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway, Aba, warned that Nigeria was sliding towards danger with the continued detention of Kanu. “We are handing a seven day ultimatum to the Federal Government to release Nnamdi Kanu. It is either they release him or face our wrath. In Igbo land, when women embark on a protest march, it means that the matter at hand had become serious. We decided to hold this protest to appeal to the Federal Government to release him. “We can’t understand why the government is still detaining Nnamdi Kanu since he has been granted bail. IPOB sees this as part of the larger plot in the marginalization of Ndigbo. This is another proof that Ndigbo are not wanted in Nigeria, if a freedom fighter like Nnamdi Kanu, will be detained indefinitely.” Remain non violent —Igboezue Adding its own voice, the Igboezue International Association of Nigeria and Diaspora had appealed to all the pro-Biafra groups in Nigeria and in Diaspora, to ensure that all their protests and demonstrations were done peacefully because Igbo were not known to be violent people, but peaceful even in the face of marginalization. National President of the association, Elder Pius Okoye while briefing newsmen in Onitsha, yesterday, said there was room for peaceful protest worldwide and the Nigerian constitution also provided room for peaceful protest and demonstration. “Government is a continuum. It is not a private business. The last National Conference was well represented by all parts of the country. Nigerians expected continuity regarding the outcome of that National Conference, but we were disappointed that no mention had been made of it. However, we believe the implementation of its recommendations would bring peace in Nigeria,” he said. Biafra Biafra He said IPOB and MASSOB had the right to protest and demonstrate as far as it was peaceful and non-violent and within the ambit of the law, warning that “involving or allowing violent miscreants to infiltrate their fold will make nonsense of their agitations that have been recognized worldwide. “It is the duty of the police to control protesters and prevent them from destroying lives and properties, or involving in violent activities. The military should not shoot at protesters like animals,“he said. Okoye told IPOB and MASSOB to scrutinize their members to avoid criminal elements infiltrating their folds and cashing in on that to rob and loot people’s property, after Nigerians and even the churches have testified through their publications that they had been peaceful in all their activities. No to secession— Ebonyi govt Over the weekend, Ebonyi State government revealed that the South East geopolitical zone of the country was not advocating secession contrary to the wave of the agitation rocking the zone. Briefing newsmen on the outcome of the state executive council meeting at the Government House in Abakaliki, the state commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Sen. Emmanuel Onwe added that the state government having carried out a critique of the whole situation was not in support of secession or any act of abuse on the government of the federation.
