The Presidential Jet assigned to President Muhammad Buhari has taken off from the Stansted airport where it has been parked for the past three months.

Several reliable sources with knowledge of the development say the Presidential jet is confirmed to have taken off from Stansted on Tuesday evening. However it is not known if the pilots are simply engaging in activity in order to cloak the return date of the President or if indeed the President is on his way back to Nigeria after over 80 days in London for medical treatment.

Presidential spokesmen contacted by reporters denied the President had actually been airlifted from London, however The Herald reported yesterday that staff of Aso Villa had been put on standby for the President’s imminent return.

It was also revealed by an aide to the First Lady that Mrs. Buhari would return on Wednesday, however it is unlikely that the Presidential Jet was scrambled to ferry her back to the nation’s capital.

The idle presence of the Presidential jet in London for close to three months had caused quite a stir in the country over the last two months, as many Nigerians queried why the Presidency would expend such exorbitant funds in housing the Jet in a London airport where it would undoubtedly incur substantial charges.

The Presidency reacted to the outrage then, releasing a statement assuring Nigerians that the Jet was attracting discounted charges and that the prestige of the President warranted its presence in London.

The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, said he had stopped collecting pension in Kwara State as a former governor of the state.

Saraki, who said this during the News Agency of Nigeria Forum in Abuja on Tuesday, declared that he had written a letter to the state government to stop the payment of the pension.

According to Saraki, the move was sequel to complaints from some quarters that former governors, who are currently senators or ministers, were receiving pension and salary in their new jobs, all from the government.

A civil society organisation, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, had accused the former governors of receiving double pay from government, and said it was illegal.



“No, I’m not collecting pension; the moment I saw that allegation, I wrote to my state to stop my pension.

“So, I speak for myself on that part; I’m not doing that, I am not receiving pension from my state,’’ he said.

On other senators still collecting pensions from their state, Saraki said, “I think I will leave everybody to their individual decision. Morally, if you have got another job, you should give it up until when you are truly a pensioner.

“Some of these oversights are not addressing the issues. What the states should do is to go and amend their laws to say that if you have another appointment then you are not entitled to that benefit. With this, we will just simplify the matter.”

On the role of Bank of Infrastructure in the country, Saraki said that the Senate had not had any serious interface with the bank, but that it was involved in some projects.

“We are not engaging with them particularly. I think that they were part of those involved in the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. But, I don’t think government should really put funds into that.

“I have this strong view and I feel very strongly about it, that nowhere in the world has government funded infrastructure.

“Government cannot, and even if government can fund infrastructure projects, the social sector will suffer – health will suffer and education will suffer.’’

He said there were a lot of complaints that budgetary allocation to health and education was too low, attributing it to the fact that much money was being invested in infrastructural development.

Saraki explained that due to the challenges, the National Assembly had passed bills that would encourage private sector participation in infrastructural development.

“What should happen is that we should try and get private sector to take over some of these infrastructure so that the money can go into education and health.

“By doing that, banks like Bank of Infrastructure will come in.”

The Nigeria Immigration Service says from January 1, 2018, anybody without the National Identification Number, issued by the National Identity Management Commission, will not be able to procure Nigerian passport.

It added that the condition applied to both first-time applicants and those renewing their expired document.

The Comptroller-General of the NIS, Mr. Mohammed Babandede, disclosed this to State House correspondents after a meeting of database harmonisation committee at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday.


Babandede said the decision was taken as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to ease the process of doing business in the country.

He said thenceforth, there would be no need for individuals to have their biometrics captured by the NIS and NIMC separately.

He said, “The biggest problem we are facing is that everybody is deploying his own technology; but harmonisation of data will solve that. We have agreed that from January 1, 2018, anybody who is going to apply for the Nigerian passport, whether renewal or fresh application, must first have a National Identity Number.

“Why we are doing this is that we want to ease process of doing business in Nigeria. There is no need for you to go and have your biometrics captured by the NIMC and then you come and capture again with the Nigeria Immigration Service.

“Once you give us your NIN, we will collect the biometrics from the NIMC and produce your passport.”

Babandede said he had directed that permits of foreigners resident in Nigeria should not be renewed without the NIN.

To achieve this, the NIS boss said identification numbers and passport numbers would be harmonised.

“The NIMC workers can work in our passport office. So, when you come to get your passport, you can also get the national identity card.

“The NIMC has allowed immigration workers to work in their offices. So, anybody who is coming to claim Nigerian citizenship, they will help to identify that citizen. That is the cooperation that we have had so far,” he explained.

Babandede said government’s aim was to put in place what he called e-government.

“When you want to collect anything from any government agency, we don’t need to go to get the document from any other government agency; we should be able to access it, we should be able to know whether you have paid your tax or not.

“If you are coming through the airport and you want to leave Nigeria, we should be able to know that this guy has not paid his tax and you should be able to pay your tax before you depart. We are looking at one e-government and it is possible,” he explained.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Information Communications Technology, Lanre Osibona, said progress was being made concerning harmonisation of all databases.

He said about two years ago, only five million people were registered by the NIMC, adding that the figure had increased to 20 million, while efforts were being made to increase it to 30 million by the end of the year.

Osibona said the government was working with the World Bank and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to capture over 180 million people over a three-year period.

Arsenal - Hull
Here, Arsenal is 1 (Home team) while Hull is regarded as 2 (Away team). Thats how betting recognises them.

0-2 2h or 0-2 2handicap means that Hull has been awarded 2 goals ahead (before the start of the match).
If you bet 2h, it means you support Hull to win on 2handicap and it means that you win your bet if the full time score of the match ends 0-0, 1-0.
If the match ends 2-0, 3-1, 5-3, etc (2 goals margin) in favor of Arsenal, you lose because it will be tantamount to a draw (because Hull has been awarded the 2 goals ahead).
