The most prudent step for all our national refineries is to divest them entirely. Continuous budgetary allocations for repairs and refurbishment have proven to be a waste of taxpayers' money with no tangible results.
Instead, proceeds from the sale should be pooled with additional government funds to build one or two new, larger refineries with at least 700,000 bpd capacity — similar in scale to the Dangote refinery.
The Federal Government should pursue this through a Public-Private Partnership model. Any further investment in revamping these obsolete refineries is a gross disservice to Nigerian taxpayers.
