Politics › 2027: Adenugba Takes Tinubu Re-election Campaign To Ondo Grassroots, Backs Aiyed by Futureloaded(op): 7:04am On Sep 08
As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, Hon. Lawrence Adenugba (Parie) has stepped up grassroots mobilisation efforts in Ondo State in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The initiative, being coordinated through the Lawrence Adenugba Foundation (LAF), reflects Adenugba’s continued engagement with grassroots structures and his commitment to advancing the political objectives of the Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.

Under the banner “Renewed Hope,” the mobilisation effort is expected to strengthen interaction with communities, party stakeholders, youths and other grassroots actors across the state, while promoting awareness around the Tinubu 2027 agenda.

Adenugba’s involvement is also being viewed as an extension of Governor Aiyedatiwa’s broader political mobilisation strategy in Ondo State, particularly as the state’s political structures begin preparations for the next electoral cycle.

With his background in grassroots political engagement, Adenugba is positioning the foundation as a platform for connecting the Tinubu re-election campaign with people at the community level.

The campaign material, which prominently features President Tinubu and Governor Aiyedatiwa, captures the message of political continuity and renewed engagement as the 2027 elections draw closer.

The initiative further reinforces Adenugba’s role as one of the grassroots voices working to mobilise support for the Tinubu administration while advancing Governor Aiyedatiwa’s political interests across Ondo State.

Politics › Yari’s Appointment, Tinubu’s Highway Projects Receive Cmid’s Applause — Ikuomola by Futureloaded(op): 3:59am On Sep 05
ABUJA — The Creative Mobilization Initiative for Development (CMID) has commended the appointment of former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari, as Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council, describing the decision as a strategic move capable of strengthening the party’s grassroots mobilisation.

The organisation also applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the Federal Government’s major highway projects, saying the initiatives could contribute significantly to economic growth, improved connectivity and national integration.

The commendation was contained in a statement signed by the Director General of CMID, Pst. James Ikuomola, on September 3, 2026.

According to CMID, Yari’s experience as a former governor, political leader and grassroots mobiliser makes him well suited for the responsibility of coordinating the APC Campaign Council.

The organisation described the former governor as a tested administrator and bridge-builder, expressing confidence that his political experience and national outlook would help strengthen mobilisation efforts across the country.

CMID said Yari would be expected to play an important role in galvanising the party’s structures across the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory and the 774 local government areas.

“CMID has no doubt that Senator Yari’s experience, political sagacity and national outlook will help galvanise the party for massive mobilisation across the 36 States, FCT and 774 LGAs,” the statement said.

Ikuomola added that CMID was ready to work with the campaign council in taking the message of the Renewed Hope Agenda to communities and citizens at the grassroots.

He said the organisation would leverage its “Techno-Grassroots network” to support public awareness and mobilisation around government programmes and development initiatives.

CMID Applauds Tinubu’s Highway Agenda

CMID also praised President Tinubu for the administration’s focus on major road infrastructure, particularly four projects it identified as significant to Nigeria’s economic development.

They include the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, Abuja-Kano Road Dualization and the completion of the East-West Road.

The organisation said the projects could improve movement between regions, strengthen trade corridors and reduce transportation challenges facing businesses and citizens.

It further noted that better road connectivity would support farmers in moving agricultural produce to markets while creating opportunities for businesses, commuters and communities along the various routes.

“These are not just roads. They are trails of prosperity. They will cut transport costs, create millions of jobs, move food from farm to market, and truly unite Nigeria from East to West and North to South,” CMID stated.

The group said the projects, when completed and properly maintained, could contribute to opening up economic opportunities and improving the movement of goods and people across different parts of the country.

Group Pledges Continued Grassroots Sensitisation

CMID said it would continue to sensitise Nigerians on the importance of major development projects and encourage communities to protect public infrastructure.

The organisation reiterated that although it remains non-partisan, it is committed to supporting development initiatives that can deliver measurable benefits to Nigerians.

Ikuomola said CMID would continue to serve as a bridge between government development programmes and citizens at the grassroots, particularly through public enlightenment and community mobilisation.

The organisation also wished Senator Yari success in his new national assignment and expressed prayers for wisdom and strength for President Tinubu as his administration continues to pursue its development agenda.

The statement was signed by Pst. James Ikuomola, Director General, Creative Mobilization Initiative for Development (CMID).

A 55-year-old cocoa worker, Nwafor Romano, has died after reportedly sustaining injuries during an alleged operation involving personnel identified as members of the Joint Task Force (JTF) and officials of the Ministry of Natural Resources at a cocoa farm in the OA3 Forest Reserve, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The incident reportedly occurred on September 2, 2026, at the Temidire Rotimi Camp, where Romano and other workers were engaged in cocoa farming activities.

According to sources familiar with the incident, the JTF personnel, alongside officials of the Ministry of Natural Resources, allegedly stormed the model cocoa farm with armed personnel.

The operation reportedly resulted in a confrontation, leaving several people injured.

The team was reportedly led by Mr. Obadun, said to be one of the directors of the JTF. The alleged role of the said official could not be independently verified as of the time of filing this report.

Romano was reportedly among those affected during the incident. He allegedly sustained injuries and battled his condition before reportedly giving up the ghost on September 3, 2026, a day after the alleged operation.

Other persons reportedly injured in the incident include Odugbemi Isiaka, the camp secretary; Kazim Odu; Nwanfor; and Dapo Akinsanmi.

Affidavit Records Romano’s Death

An Affidavit of Death sworn to by Nwafor Lilian Chisom, an adult female nurse from the Orita-Odigbo area of Odigbo Local Government Area, Ondo State, records Romano’s death.

The affidavit, bearing Registry No. ONDO/AFF/178491/2026, was sworn to at the Ondo State Magistrate Court Registry, Ore, in the Ore Magisterial District.

According to the affidavit, Romano died on September 3, 2026, at the age of 55, at a hospital as a result of an accident.

The affidavit further stated that no death certificate was issued at the time of his death, adding that the document was made for record purposes.

Medical Document Gives Additional Details

A medical certificate of death accompanying the documents reportedly recorded loss of consciousness and stiffness, while stating “sudden death syndrome” as the primary cause of death.

The medical document was reportedly signed by Dr. Igbasan O, with the qualification MBChB, Ife, 2013, and listed General Hospital, Ore, as his address.

The medical document provides additional details concerning Romano’s medical condition, while the affidavit formally records his death.

Calls for Investigation

The alleged incident has generated concern among cocoa farmers and workers operating within the OA3 Forest Reserve, particularly over the safety of people working in the remote farming environment.

Questions have been raised over the circumstances surrounding the alleged operation, including the reason for the intervention, what led to the reported confrontation, and the circumstances in which the workers sustained injuries.

There are calls for the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident and provide clarity on what transpired at the Temidire Rotimi Camp.

The death of Nwafor Romano has further heightened concerns over the safety and welfare of cocoa farmers and workers operating within Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Politics › 2027: Ondo Apc Mobilisation Takes Renewed Hope To The Grassroots As Hon. Lawrenc by Futureloaded(op): 9:59am On Sep 04
AKURE — Ahead of the 2027 Presidential Election, the Ondo State APC Mobilisation Campaign has commenced a renewed grassroots drive to galvanise support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The mobilisation campaign, championed by Hon. Lawrence Adenugba (Parie) on behalf of the Ondo State APC mobilisation structure, is expected to focus on taking the message of continuity, development and the Renewed Hope agenda to communities across the state.

Adenugba said the 2027 election presents Nigerians with an opportunity to decide whether the reforms and policies of the Tinubu administration should be sustained and consolidated.

According to him, Nigeria requires political stability and policy continuity to enable ongoing reforms to mature and translate into stronger economic opportunities and improved living standards for citizens.

He urged APC supporters and stakeholders across Ondo State to move beyond political rhetoric and intensify grassroots engagement ahead of the election.

“2027 IS ABOUT THE NIGERIA WE WANT TO BUILD”

Adenugba maintained that the forthcoming election should be viewed beyond party politics, describing it as a defining moment for Nigeria's future.

He called on APC members, youths, women, community leaders and other stakeholders to take ownership of the party's grassroots mobilisation efforts and communicate the achievements and policy direction of the administration to voters.

He also emphasised the need for continued collaboration between the Federal Government and Ondo State Government under Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, particularly in areas capable of accelerating economic growth and improving the welfare of the people.

ONDO MUST SPEAK WITH ONE VOICE

The APC mobiliser urged party members across the state's 18 local government areas to remain united and organised as preparations for 2027 gather momentum.

He said Ondo State must play a strategic role in ensuring that the APC retains strong support across the state, stressing that effective mobilisation must begin from the wards and polling units.

“Politics is ultimately about the people. Our responsibility is to engage the people, listen to them, communicate clearly and ensure that every eligible voter understands the choices before us in 2027,” Adenugba said.

He appealed to party supporters to remain committed to peaceful political engagement, issue-based campaigns and democratic participation.

FROM GRASSROOTS TO POLLING UNITS

According to Adenugba, the Ondo APC mobilisation campaign will continue to strengthen its grassroots structures while encouraging wider participation in the electoral process.

He expressed confidence that with unity, effective organisation and sustained engagement, APC supporters in Ondo State can deliver a strong mandate for President Tinubu in the 2027 Presidential Election.

As the political atmosphere gradually builds towards 2027, Adenugba's message is centred on continuity, consolidation and collective responsibility, urging Ondo people to participate actively in shaping the next chapter of Nigeria's democratic journey.

“The future will be determined by the choices we make today. We must mobilise, we must remain united, and we must work for the Nigeria we believe in.”

Politics › From Years Of Waiting To A New Dawn: Hon. Lawrence Adenugba Hails Aiyedatiwa’s ₦ by Futureloaded(op): 11:22pm On Sep 02
AKURE — A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Hon. Lawrence Adenugba, popularly known as Parie, has commended Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for flagging off the payment of ₦3.82 billion in gratuities to 985 retired workers of the state public service.

Adenugba described the development as a significant demonstration of the Aiyedatiwa administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare and its determination to address inherited financial obligations affecting retirees.

Governor Aiyedatiwa on Wednesday flagged off the payment at the Cocoa Conference Centre, Governor’s Office, Alagbaka, Akure, with beneficiaries drawn from the mainstream civil service, secondary school teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as state-owned parastatals.

The payment covers 509 retirees from the 2020 batch and 476 beneficiaries from the 2015–2019 batches.

Reacting to the development, Adenugba said the payment represented more than a financial intervention, noting that it was a fulfilment of the government’s responsibility to citizens who had dedicated their productive years to serving the state.

He commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for confronting the inherited gratuity burden rather than allowing the outstanding obligations to accumulate further.

According to him, the payment reflects the governor’s commitment to the OUR EASE agenda and demonstrates that the welfare and dignity of senior citizens remain important priorities of the administration.

Adenugba also praised the Ondo State Pension Transition Office, the Ministry of Finance, the Head of Service and other government officials whose efforts contributed to the successful implementation of the payment exercise.

He urged the beneficiaries to continue supporting the administration, describing the clearance of gratuity arrears as an important step towards restoring confidence among retired public servants.

The APC chieftain further expressed optimism that Governor Aiyedatiwa would sustain the momentum by completing the payment of inherited obligations and implementing more policies capable of improving the lives of workers, pensioners and residents across Ondo State.

The governor had earlier pledged to continue addressing inherited gratuity liabilities and ensure that outstanding obligations to retirees are cleared before the end of his tenure.

The development has been widely viewed as a major relief for retirees who have waited for years to receive their earned entitlements.

Politics › Health Of The People, Honour For The Governor: Hon. Lawrence Adenugba (parie) Sa by Futureloaded(op): 8:39am On Aug 26
Hon. Lawrence Adenugba, popularly known as Parie, has congratulated the Executive Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, FCA, on his recognition as the “Health Transformation Governor of 2026” by Business Times Nigeria.

Adenugba described the prestigious honour as a fitting and well-deserved recognition of Governor Aiyedatiwa’s purposeful leadership, visionary approach to governance and sustained commitment to improving the healthcare system and overall wellbeing of the people of Ondo State.

According to the Ondo State APC chieftain, the recognition did not come as a surprise to keen observers of the remarkable reforms and investments being undertaken by the present administration to reposition the health sector and make quality healthcare increasingly accessible to residents across the state.

He said Governor Aiyedatiwa has demonstrated through his policies and interventions that the health of the people remains a fundamental priority of his administration, stressing that a healthy population is essential to building a productive, prosperous and economically vibrant society.

Hon. Adenugba noted that the ongoing renovation and construction of healthcare facilities across the 203 wards of Ondo State reflect a deliberate effort by the administration to strengthen healthcare delivery, particularly at the grassroots level where many citizens depend on primary healthcare centres for their medical needs.

He explained that bringing improved health facilities closer to communities would not only reduce the burden on major hospitals but also enable residents, especially those in rural and riverine areas, to access timely medical attention.

The APC chieftain also commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for the recruitment of over 2,000 health professionals, describing the move as a major investment in the human resources needed to sustain an efficient and responsive healthcare system.

According to him, infrastructure and modern equipment can only achieve their full purpose when there are adequately trained and motivated professionals to operate them and provide quality care to patients.

He therefore praised the administration’s efforts to improve the welfare of doctors, nurses and other health workers, noting that better remuneration, improved working conditions, recruitment and opportunities for professional development are crucial to attracting and retaining competent personnel within the state’s healthcare system.

Adenugba further applauded the ongoing transformation of the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, describing the institution as a strategic component of the state’s vision for a stronger tertiary healthcare system capable of providing more advanced medical services to the people.

He said the deployment of sophisticated medical equipment, including the 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner, 160-slice CT scanner, digital mammography and 4D ultrasound, represents another significant milestone in the drive to modernise healthcare delivery and expand access to specialised diagnostic services.

The investment in modern medical technology, he noted, has the potential to reduce the difficulties faced by patients who previously had to travel long distances in search of certain specialised tests and medical services.

Hon. Lawrence Adenugba also highlighted the administration’s commitment to maternal and child healthcare through the Maternal and Child Health Insurance Programme, describing it as an important intervention designed to support mothers and children and improve health outcomes across the state.

He equally commended the expansion of the Orange Health Insurance Scheme (ORANGHIS), which seeks to broaden access to affordable healthcare and reduce the financial burden medical treatment can place on families.

Adenugba also praised the commitment of the ₦1 billion Hospital Intervention Fund, saying the intervention further demonstrates the seriousness of the Aiyedatiwa administration in addressing critical needs within the health sector and strengthening facilities to serve the people better.

He stressed that Governor Aiyedatiwa’s healthcare agenda is particularly commendable because it reflects an understanding that genuine development must be measured not only by roads, buildings and other physical infrastructure, but also by the quality of life enjoyed by the people.

“For any government, the wellbeing of the people must remain at the centre of development. A healthy population is a productive population, and every meaningful investment in healthcare is ultimately an investment in the future of the state,” Adenugba said.

He described the Health Transformation Governor of 2026 honour as more than a personal recognition for Governor Aiyedatiwa, saying it represents an acknowledgement of the collective efforts of the administration, health professionals and other stakeholders working towards a more efficient and responsive healthcare system in Ondo State.

According to him, the award should serve as further encouragement for the Governor and his administration to consolidate on the progress already recorded and continue expanding healthcare services to ensure that no community is left behind.

Adenugba expressed confidence that the ongoing reforms would continue to produce meaningful results and strengthen public confidence in the state’s healthcare institutions.

He noted that the vision of ensuring that every resident, irrespective of location, social status or financial circumstance, can access quality and affordable healthcare is one that deserves the support of all stakeholders.

The APC chieftain therefore called on health professionals, community leaders and residents of Ondo State to continue supporting the policies and programmes of the Aiyedatiwa administration, stressing that the transformation of the healthcare system requires a collective commitment from government, professionals and the people.

He said the national recognition further places Ondo State in the spotlight and provides an opportunity to showcase the progress being made in the sector while encouraging the government to maintain the momentum.

Hon. Lawrence Adenugba (Parie) congratulated Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa once again, describing the honour as a reflection of leadership that places value on human life, dignity and the welfare of the people.

“This honour is not merely an award; it is a recognition of the direction in which the healthcare system of Ondo State is moving. It is also a call to sustain the momentum, build on the gains and ensure that the benefits of these reforms reach every corner of our state,” he stated.

Adenugba prayed that Almighty God would continue to grant Governor Aiyedatiwa wisdom, strength, good health and the capacity to lead Ondo State to greater heights.

“Congratulations once again to His Excellency, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, FCA, on this well-deserved recognition as the Health Transformation Governor of 2026. May your administration continue to record greater achievements, particularly in the health and wellbeing of the people of Ondo State,” he added.

Culture › August 20 Isese Day: Hon. Timothy Ayesuwa Urges Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedati by Futureloaded(op): 1:13am On Aug 19
An indigene of Ilutitun Osooro, Ondo State, Timothy Ayesuwa, popularly known as Timo Akewi, has appealed to the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, to formally recognise August 20 as Isese Day in the state.

Ayesuwa made the appeal in a statement addressed to the governor, stressing the need for Ondo State to join other South-West states in formally acknowledging and promoting the region’s rich indigenous cultural heritage.

He noted that states such as Lagos, Osun, Oyo and Ogun have taken steps to recognise August 20 as a day dedicated to the celebration of Isese and indigenous Yoruba culture, arguing that Ondo State should equally create an official platform for its people to celebrate and preserve their ancestral heritage.

According to him, Isese is deeply connected to the history, traditions, values and cultural identity of the Yoruba people, adding that Ondo State, as an important part of Yorubaland, has a responsibility to ensure that its indigenous traditions are not lost to future generations.

Preserving Ondo’s Cultural Identity

Ayesuwa explained that the proposed recognition of Isese Day should be approached primarily from a cultural and heritage perspective, rather than being viewed as a competition between religions.

He maintained that recognising the day would not amount to government endorsement of a particular religion or belief system, but would instead demonstrate the government’s commitment to protecting the cultural heritage of its people.

“Isese is deeply rooted in the history, culture, traditions and identity of the Yoruba people, of which Ondo State is not an exemption,” he said.

He argued that cultural preservation and religious tolerance could coexist, noting that government could continue to protect the rights and freedom of citizens practising Christianity, Islam and other faiths while also providing room for the preservation and celebration of indigenous culture.

According to him, the recognition of August 20 would give communities, cultural groups, traditional institutions, historians and younger generations an opportunity to celebrate and learn more about the traditions and values that have shaped the identity of the people.

A Platform for Younger Generations

The Ilutitun Osooro indigene further stressed that cultural recognition would be particularly important for younger generations, who he said need greater exposure to the history and traditions of their ancestors.

He noted that formal recognition could encourage cultural education, traditional arts, indigenous language, music, festivals, folklore and other forms of cultural expression.

Ayesuwa warned that failure to deliberately preserve indigenous heritage could result in the gradual disappearance of important cultural practices and knowledge.

“Our culture is our heritage. Our heritage is our identity. What we fail to preserve today, posterity may never recover,” he stated.

He therefore called on the state government to consider the proposal as part of its broader efforts to promote the identity, history and cultural resources of Ondo State.

‘Ondo Should Not Be Left Behind’

Ayesuwa also pointed to the actions of other South-West states as evidence that cultural recognition can be pursued while maintaining religious harmony.

He argued that if other states in the region could recognise August 20 as Isese Day without undermining the rights or practices of people belonging to other faiths, Ondo State should equally be able to adopt a similar approach.

“Ondo State is an important part of Yorubaland, with a rich cultural history that deserves to be properly preserved and promoted,” he said.

He appealed to Governor Aiyedatiwa to consider engaging traditional rulers, cultural stakeholders, historians, religious leaders, community leaders and other relevant groups on the proposal.

According to him, such consultation would provide an opportunity to develop an inclusive framework that recognises indigenous heritage while maintaining the state’s commitment to religious freedom, tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

‘Oro Ule Neh, Uyi Neh Ni’

Ayesuwa, who signed the statement as Timothy Ayesuwa (Timo Akewi), Ilutitun Osooro, concluded his appeal with an Ikale expression: “Oro Ule neh, Uyi neh ni.”

He said the expression further reflects the importance of understanding and preserving the cultural identity of the people.

He therefore urged Governor Aiyedatiwa to give the proposal the attention it deserves, stressing that official recognition of August 20 as Isese Day would send a strong message about the importance his administration places on the history, culture and identity of the people of Ondo State.

He maintained that the initiative, if adopted, would not only provide an annual platform for cultural celebration but could also contribute to greater awareness, documentation and transmission of Ondo State’s indigenous heritage to future generations.

Ayesuwa concluded by reiterating that Ondo State deserves to celebrate and honour its indigenous heritage, just as other states across the South-West have continued to do.

Politics › From Boat Mishap To Thanksgiving: 18 Ugbo Ward IV Youths Escape Death As Communi by Futureloaded(op): 4:29am On Aug 17
LAJЕ, ONDO STATE — Residents of Ugbo Ward IV in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State have held a special thanksgiving service at Idiogba-Alagbon to celebrate the survival of 18 youths involved in a boat accident during the May 16, 2026, House of Representatives primary election in the state.

The thanksgiving, held on Sunday, August 16, 2026, brought together residents of Ugbo Ward IV, members of the Idiogba-Alagbon community, religious leaders and other stakeholders to give thanks to God for preserving the lives of the youths and to appreciate those who played critical roles in their rescue.

The incident occurred on May 16, 2026, when a boat conveying 18 youths from Ugbo-Nla to Ugbo Ward IV encountered difficulties while passing through the Abe-Alagbon axis of Idiogba.

The location, popularly known as Abe-Alagbon, is a strategic waterway junction where sea and river waters meet. The area is also regularly used by fishermen travelling to and from their fishing grounds.

According to accounts surrounding the incident, the boat was confronted by strong waves at the T-junction, causing it to capsize and sink.

The sudden incident reportedly threw the passengers into a dangerous situation, with several personal belongings, including mobile phones and other valuable properties, lost in the process.

Despite the severity of the incident, the timely intervention of residents of Idiogba-Alagbon helped avert a major disaster.

Residents who witnessed the situation reportedly mobilised quickly and moved to rescue the passengers from the water, bringing the stranded youths to safety.

Remarkably, none of the 18 youths lost their lives in the accident.

The survival of all the passengers became a major reason for the thanksgiving, with the people of Ugbo Ward IV describing the incident as a moment that could have ended differently if not for divine intervention and the courage of the rescuers.

Aiyedatiwa Responds to Accident

Following the incident, Ondo State Governor, His Excellency Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, expressed sympathy with the affected youths and thanked God for preserving their lives.

The Governor also responded to the material losses suffered by the victims by providing compensation to those who lost valuable personal belongings in the accident.

His intervention was commended by the people of Ugbo Ward IV, who said the gesture demonstrated concern for the welfare of residents and the people affected by the unfortunate incident.

The compensation, according to the community, provided some relief to the affected youths following the loss of their personal belongings.

Thanksgiving at Idiogba-Alagbon

The August 16 thanksgiving was organised as an opportunity for the people of Ugbo Ward IV to return to the community where their members were rescued and openly express their appreciation to God and the people of Idiogba-Alagbon.

Beyond the thanksgiving, the gathering also served as an avenue to strengthen the relationship between the two riverine communities, particularly in recognition of the assistance provided during the emergency.

The event featured prayers for the survivors, their families, the rescuers and residents who regularly depend on the waterways for transportation and fishing activities.

There were also spiritual appeals for the safety and protection of travellers and fishermen who use the waterways around the Abe-Alagbon axis.

Two Churches Host Thanksgiving Services

The thanksgiving was observed at two Christian worship centres within the Idiogba-Alagbon community.

The first service was held at the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, led by Most Rev. Senior Apostle Oba-Imole Demehin.

The second took place at the CCC Premier Cathedral Alagbon General Arc Diocesan Headquarters, A Place of Power, led by M/Evan/Prt. Michael Omosehin.

At the services, prayers were offered for the survivors and their families, while the congregations also thanked God for averting the loss of lives.

The religious gathering further reflected the significance attached to the incident by the affected community, considering the potentially devastating consequences of the boat accident.

Sedara Commends Idiogba Residents

Speaking during the thanksgiving, the Ugbo Ward IV Councillor who is also the Deputy Chairman of Ilaje Local Government Council, Hon. Taiwo Sedara, expressed appreciation to the people of Idiogba-Alagbon for their swift response during the accident.

Sedara described the intervention of the residents as a demonstration of humanity, courage and community solidarity.

He acknowledged that the prompt action of the Idiogba-Alagbon residents was instrumental in ensuring that the 18 youths were rescued safely.

The councillor said the people of Ugbo Ward IV would continue to remember the community for coming to their aid at a critical moment.

He also applauded Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for his response to the incident, particularly his sympathy, prayers and financial compensation for those who lost valuable properties.

Sedara noted that the Governor's gesture provided relief to the victims and showed that the state government was concerned about the welfare of its people, including residents of riverine communities.

Community Bond Strengthened

The thanksgiving ultimately became more than a religious gathering, as it provided an opportunity for both Ugbo Ward IV and Idiogba-Alagbon residents to reflect on the incident and celebrate the preservation of lives.

For the people of Ugbo Ward IV, the May 16 accident remains a reminder of the risks associated with travelling through waterways, particularly at locations where strong currents and waves can pose serious challenges to boat operators and passengers.

The community also used the occasion to appreciate the residents who responded swiftly when the boat capsized and to recognise the intervention of the Ondo State Government.

With all 18 youths surviving the accident, the thanksgiving served as a celebration of life, gratitude and community solidarity, while reinforcing the bond between the people of Ugbo Ward IV and Idiogba-Alagbon.

The fire, which occurred at about 9:00 p.m. yesterday, reportedly affected 14 shops dealing in foodstuffs, provisions, stationery and other essential commodities. Preliminary estimates put the value of goods lost at about ₦800 million, although a comprehensive assessment is expected to determine the full extent of the losses.

Speaking on behalf of the state government, Hon. Adebawo conveyed the sympathy of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to the affected traders, their families and the entire Sabo Market community.

He assured the victims that the government understood the devastating impact of the incident and would work with relevant agencies and stakeholders to determine and facilitate appropriate intervention in line with established processes.

Politics › 2026 International Youth Day: Beyond Tomorrow — Lawrence Adenugba Puts Ondo Yout by Futureloaded(op): 7:43pm On Aug 12
AKURE, ONDO STATE — Ondo State APC chieftain, Hon. Lawrence Adenugba, widely known as Parie, has called on young people across the state to embrace their potential, develop their talents and take active roles in shaping the future of their communities and Ondo State.

Hon. Lawrence Adenugba made the call in his message commemorating the 2026 International Youth Day, a day dedicated to recognising the contributions, aspirations and potential of young people across the world.

The APC chieftain described youths as one of the greatest assets available to any society, noting that their energy, creativity, courage and innovative ideas remain critical to achieving sustainable development.

He said the celebration of International Youth Day should go beyond ceremonies and congratulatory messages, stressing the need for deliberate and sustained investment in the younger generation.

According to him, education, skills development, entrepreneurship, employment opportunities, technology and leadership development must remain central to any serious agenda aimed at building a prosperous future for Ondo State.

Hon. Lawrence Adenugba urged political leaders and other stakeholders to create platforms where young people can acquire relevant skills, develop their businesses, express their ideas and participate meaningfully in decision-making processes.

He noted that young people should not be viewed merely as beneficiaries of government programmes but as important partners whose creativity and participation can accelerate development at the grassroots.

He also encouraged Ondo youths to reject hopelessness and remain determined despite the challenges confronting the younger generation, urging them to make productive use of available opportunities and continuously improve themselves.

“The future is calling, and our youths must be prepared to answer that call. Their ideas matter, their voices matter and their future matters. We must create an environment where every young person can dream, work, innovate and succeed,” he said.

The APC chieftain further stressed the importance of responsible leadership among young people, urging them to embrace integrity, discipline, unity and service to their communities.

He said the strength of any society is determined not only by its natural resources but also by the quality, character and preparedness of its younger generation.

Hon. Lawrence Adenugba also called on successful individuals, political leaders, business owners and community leaders to mentor and support emerging young talents, saying collective responsibility is required to prepare the next generation of leaders.

He maintained that Ondo State has a pool of talented and intelligent young people capable of making significant contributions to the state’s economic, political, technological and social development if given the right opportunities and support.

While congratulating youths across Ondo State on the occasion, he urged them to remain hopeful and committed to excellence, assuring them that their contributions to society are valuable and worthy of recognition.

He said:

“Let us not celebrate our youths only today. Let us invest in them, listen to them, mentor them and create opportunities for them. When we empower our youths, we strengthen our communities; when we equip them, we secure the future of Ondo State.”

Hon. Lawrence Adenugba, therefore, wished young people across Ondo State and Nigeria a Happy International Youth Day, urging them to rise above limitations, pursue their dreams and become active contributors to the development of a stronger, united and prosperous Ondo State.

Politics › Hon. Chief Lawrence Adenugba (parie) Commends Aiyedatiwa’s Leadership, Hails by Futureloaded(op): 7:49pm On Jul 28
AKURE, ONDO STATE — Hon. Chief Lawrence Adenugba, popularly known as Parie, has commended the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, and hailed the state government for commencing the distribution of electricity transformers to communities across the three senatorial districts of the state.

The initiative, according to the state government, is part of ongoing efforts to reduce power outages, improve electricity supply, strengthen critical infrastructure, and stimulate economic and social activities across Ondo State.

The first phase of the transformer distribution covers beneficiary communities across the three senatorial districts, with the intervention expected to provide relief to residents and businesses that have been affected by inadequate power supply.

The transformers being distributed are of various capacities, including 100KVA 11KV/415V, 300KVA 11KV/415V, and 500KVA 11KV and 33KV/415V, depending on the specific electricity needs of the beneficiary communities.

The Honourable Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. (Dr.) Johnson Alabi, disclosed the development during the formal handover ceremony held at the premises of the Ministry in Akure.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the beneficiary communities, who received the transformers as part of the state government’s intervention to address some of the infrastructure challenges affecting electricity supply in different parts of the state.

Reacting to the development, Hon. Chief Lawrence Adenugba (Parie) commended Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of the people through strategic investments in critical infrastructure.

Parie, while hailing the Ondo State Government for the initiative, described the distribution of the transformers as a welcome development that would have a direct impact on the lives and livelihoods of residents across the beneficiary communities.

He noted that access to reliable electricity remains critical to the growth and sustainability of businesses, particularly small and medium-scale enterprises, artisans, traders, and other entrepreneurs whose daily activities depend heavily on electricity.

According to him, improved electricity supply would not only reduce the burden associated with frequent power outages but also create better opportunities for businesses to operate efficiently, expand their activities, and contribute more meaningfully to the state’s economy.

He also noted that the intervention could positively impact other important sectors, including education, healthcare, agriculture, communication, and local manufacturing, while creating a more conducive environment for investment and economic development.

The Ondo State Government’s intervention is also expected to support residents who rely on electricity for their daily activities, particularly in communities where inadequate power infrastructure has remained a major concern.

Parie further praised Governor Aiyedatiwa for prioritising projects and programmes that address the immediate needs of the people, describing the transformer distribution as an indication of the administration’s commitment to delivering tangible dividends of governance to residents.

He said the strengthening of electricity infrastructure would contribute to the broader development agenda of the state by supporting economic activities and improving the standard of living of the people.

The initiative also underscores the administration’s determination to address critical infrastructure gaps and provide an enabling environment for sustainable economic growth across Ondo State.

With electricity playing a significant role in driving economic productivity, the intervention is expected to enhance the capacity of local businesses and communities to contribute to the overall development of the state.

The distribution of the transformers across the three senatorial districts is therefore seen as part of the government’s broader efforts to improve public infrastructure and respond to the needs of communities across Ondo State.

Hon. Chief Lawrence Adenugba (Parie) expressed optimism that the initiative would be sustained and expanded to reach more communities across the state, noting that continued investment in electricity infrastructure would further strengthen economic activities and improve the welfare of residents.

He therefore encouraged the beneficiary communities to protect and maintain the facilities, stressing the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring that the transformers serve their intended purpose and provide lasting benefits to the people.

Parie reiterated his appreciation to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and the Ondo State Government for the initiative, describing it as a positive step towards improving electricity supply, supporting economic growth, and building a more prosperous future for the people of Ondo State.

Politics › Obe-apata Ilaje Youths Draw The Line, Condemn Ijaw People’s Development Initiati by Futureloaded(op): 12:34am On Jul 25
The Obe-Apata Ilaje Community Youth Congress has condemned what it described as derogatory remarks and unwarranted attacks directed at the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, by the President of the Ijaw People’s Development Initiative (IPDI), Comrade Ozobo Austin, over issues relating to the status and administrative identity of Obe-Apata.

In a press statement issued on July 22, 2026, the youth body described the alleged remarks as unacceptable, stressing that disagreements over government decisions or administrative records should not be used as justification for insults against the Chief Executive of the state.

The Congress called on all stakeholders to conduct themselves with civility and respect for constituted authority, insisting that disputes over administrative boundaries and government records should be addressed through lawful and constitutional channels.

According to the group, Governor Aiyedatiwa neither created Ilaje Local Government nor Ese Odo Local Government, and did not personally design the administrative boundaries of Ondo State or place Obe-Apata under Ilaje Local Government in official government records.

The youth body maintained that these administrative realities predate the current administration, describing them as longstanding legal and administrative positions established by successive governments over several decades.

The Congress therefore advised any individual or group dissatisfied with the existing administrative arrangement to seek appropriate legal remedies rather than resort to inflammatory rhetoric, personal attacks or attempts to intimidate constituted authorities.

The group also reiterated that Obe-Apata and Akpata are distinct names, urging stakeholders to avoid what it described as deliberate conflation of the two. It said historical records, official documentation and administrative recognition should be relied upon in any discussion concerning the identity and status of the community.

Reaffirming its position, the Obe-Apata Ilaje Community Youth Congress stated that Obe-Apata remains an integral part of Ugbo Kingdom in Ilaje Local Government Area, adding that the people of the community would continue to defend their history, identity and lawful rights through peaceful, constitutional and evidence-based engagement.

The youth organisation further appealed to all parties to lower the temperature of public discourse and refrain from statements capable of threatening peace and security in the riverine communities of Ondo State.

It stressed that peaceful coexistence remains a shared responsibility, warning that unnecessary confrontation would serve no meaningful purpose for any community.

The Congress expressed confidence that the Ondo State Government and relevant security agencies would continue to uphold law and order, protect law-abiding citizens and ensure that legitimate grievances are addressed through lawful processes.

The statement concluded with a renewed commitment to peace, justice and constructive engagement, while urging stakeholders to reject provocation, respect constituted authority and allow truth, history and the rule of law to guide discussions surrounding Obe-Apata.

The statement was signed by Barrister Ayemo Akinbo, Chairman, Obe-Apata Ilaje Youth Congress.

Politics › Obe-apata Belongs To Ilaje Kingdom, Not Ijaw, Obe-apata Ilaje Youth Congress by Futureloaded(op): 1:54am On Jul 16
The Obe-Apata Ilaje Community Youth Congress has reaffirmed that Obe-Apata is an integral part of Ugbo Kingdom in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, dismissing recent claims questioning the community’s ownership as misleading and inconsistent with historical, political and geographical records.

The position was contained in a press statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the Obe-Apata Ilaje Community Youth Congress, Mr. Ayemo Akinbo, and presented to journalists by the Youth Spokesman, Mr. Akinbayo Michael.

The Congress commended the Ondo State Government and Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for sustaining peace and stability despite growing public debates surrounding the ownership of Obe-Apata.

According to the statement, the Congress was compelled to respond after a recent press conference by youths from Opu-Akpata, who allegedly claimed that the Ondo State Government intended to cede Obe-Apata to Ilaje. It described the claim as false, misleading and contrary to established historical facts.

The youth body maintained that while every community has the constitutional right to express its views, issues relating to land ownership and community identity must be determined by verifiable historical records, official government documents and recognised administrative structures rather than claims capable of distorting history.

Four Founding Quarters Identified as Original Owners

The Congress stated that Obe-Apata Ilaje was founded by four ancestral quarters—Odudu (Odusola), Ogunfolami, Odo (Ogbaro), and Aroko—which it described as the original owners and founding families of the community.

It further explained that the name “Apata” is derived from the Ilaje language, describing it as a lagoon surrounded by water that serves as a habitat for various species of fish, a linguistic identity the Congress said further reinforces the community’s Ilaje heritage.

Obe-Apata and Opu-Akpata Are Separate Communities

The Congress stressed that Obe-Apata Ilaje and Opu-Akpata are two distinct communities separated by a natural geographical boundary known as Iton Gboro (Long Canal), with Opu-Akpata located approximately 200 metres away.

According to the statement, any attempt to portray both settlements as a single community amounts to a distortion of history, geography, culture and traditional identity.

Historical and Political Records Support Ilaje Ownership

As part of its evidence, the Congress cited St. John’s United Native African (UNA) Primary School, established by the Ilaje people before the outbreak of the Ilaje-Ijaw crisis in 1998.

It also referenced electoral and administrative records, stating that before the creation of Ilaje and Ese-Odo Local Government Areas in 1996, Obe-Apata belonged to Ugbo Ward, while Opu-Akpata was under Arogbo Ward.

Following the creation of the two local governments, Obe-Apata became part of Ugbo Ward 4 (Unit 07) in Ilaje Local Government Area, while Opu-Akpata was placed under Ukparama Ward in Ese-Odo Local Government Area.

The Congress argued that if Obe-Apata genuinely belonged to Opu-Akpata or the Ijaw people, the community would naturally fall within Ese-Odo Local Government Area. Instead, it noted that residents of Obe-Apata have consistently participated in elections conducted in Ilaje Local Government, including the recently concluded Ondo South Senatorial bye-election.

Public Infrastructure Reflects Ilaje Heritage

The statement further recalled that Obe-Apata formerly hosted several public institutions established by government, including a customary court, health centre, dispensary and multiple public wharfs serving surrounding riverine communities.

It also referenced the Cherubim and Seraphim Church led by Baba Jio Samuel Ogunfolami Akinbulejo, which it alleged was destroyed alongside several public facilities during the Ilaje-Ijaw crisis.

According to the Congress, the destruction of those public assets raises questions about the ownership claims now being advanced, insisting that the community’s historical identity remains firmly rooted in Ilaje Kingdom.

Youth Congress Calls for Peace and Respect for Historical Facts

While reaffirming that Obe-Apata remains an integral part of Ugbo Kingdom in Ilaje Local Government Area, the Congress appealed to the Federal Government, Ondo State Government, Ilaje and Ese-Odo Local Government Councils, traditional rulers and other stakeholders to uphold historical truth, respect established political and geographical boundaries, and discourage misinformation capable of creating unnecessary tension.

The group emphasised that the Ilaje people remain committed to peaceful coexistence and called on all parties to embrace dialogue and lawful means of resolving disputes.

It maintained that preserving historical facts and respecting recognised boundaries remain essential to achieving lasting peace, unity and sustainable development across the riverine communities of Ondo State.

The statement was jointly signed by the Chairman of the Obe-Apata Ilaje Community Youth Congress, Mr. Ayemo Akinbo, and presented to the media by the Youth Spokesman, Mr. Akinbayo Michael.

One year after assuming office as Executive Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye has continued to leave an indelible mark on the development landscape of Ondo State's oil-producing communities, with several completed projects now awaiting commissioning by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.

The milestone comes as Prince Poroye celebrates his first anniversary in office, a period marked by strategic project completion, infrastructure renewal, and renewed confidence in the Commission's capacity to deliver meaningful development to the people.

Speaking during an extensive inspection tour of completed and ongoing projects across the Commission's mandate areas, the OSOPADEC Chairman reflected on the achievements recorded since the inauguration of the current Board on June 16, 2025.

According to him, one of the Board's earliest and most important decisions was to prioritize the completion of inherited viable projects rather than abandon them for fresh initiatives. He explained that the policy has enabled the Commission to maximize public resources while ensuring that communities begin to enjoy the benefits of government investments without unnecessary delays.

The inspection tour showcased several completed projects that have transformed the lives of residents in riverine communities and are now ready for formal commissioning by Governor Aiyedatiwa.

Among the projects are the 1,000-metre concrete walkway at Obe-Nla and newly completed concrete landing walkways at Obe-Rewoye, Obe-Ogbaro, Obe-Magbe, and Obe-Lomore. The projects were designed to replace aging wooden structures with durable concrete facilities capable of improving safety, accessibility, transportation, and economic activities within the communities.

Addressing residents during the visit to Obe-Nla, Prince Poroye described the completed walkway as a practical demonstration of purposeful leadership and responsive governance.

He noted that development thrives where there is vision, commitment, and the political will to prioritize the welfare of the people, adding that the project stands as evidence of the administration's determination to improve living conditions in underserved communities.

The Chairman also revealed plans to make Obe-Nla a pilot community for a proposed land reclamation programme aimed at tackling environmental challenges and improving infrastructure in vulnerable riverine settlements.

The inspection team further visited the Molutehin Mini Water Scheme project, which has attained approximately 75 percent completion. Prince Poroye disclosed that the contractor handling the project had already been mobilized to drill an additional borehole to strengthen water supply capacity and ensure efficient service delivery upon completion.

He reassured residents that the administration of Governor Aiyedatiwa remains committed to expanding access to potable water and improving the quality of life of people living in the state's oil-producing communities.

Despite challenges associated with funding constraints and project duplication issues, the OSOPADEC Chairman expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved within his first year in office, stressing that residents across the mandate areas can testify to the Board's commitment to accountability, transparency, and impactful governance.

Prince Poroye attributed the Commission's achievements to the unwavering support of Governor Aiyedatiwa, whose developmental vision and commitment to grassroots transformation have continued to inspire progress across the state.

He also commended OSOPADEC engineers, contractors, traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents for their cooperation and contributions toward the successful execution of projects.

Also speaking during the inspection exercise, the Permanent Secretary of OSOPADEC, Mr. F.A. Omomowo, described the projects as impressive evidence of the administration's determination to improve the welfare and socio-economic conditions of residents within the Commission's mandate areas.

He urged communities to protect and maintain public infrastructure, emphasizing that sustainability can only be achieved when residents take ownership of projects provided for their benefit.

As Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye marks one year in office, the achievements recorded under his leadership are being celebrated as a reflection of a new era of continuity, accountability, and development-focused governance within OSOPADEC.

With several completed projects awaiting commissioning by Governor Aiyedatiwa and more interventions progressing steadily across the mandate areas, expectations remain high that the Commission will continue to deepen its impact and accelerate development in Ondo State's oil-producing communities.

By Odunsola Fayowole

As the world commemorated the 2026 World Environment Day, the Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Prince Olabiyi Poroye, has raised fresh concerns over the worsening environmental challenges confronting coastal communities in Ondo State, calling for urgent and coordinated action to address the growing impacts of climate change.

Poroye made the call during the World Environment Day celebration held in Aiyetoro, where he joined stakeholders, community leaders, environmental advocates and residents to reflect on the state of the environment and the future of vulnerable riverine communities.

Speaking on this year’s theme, which underscores the role of nature as humanity’s strongest ally in combating climate change and ensuring a sustainable future, the OSOPADEC chairman described Aiyetoro as a powerful symbol of both resilience and environmental vulnerability.

According to him, the coastal community has for decades battled relentless sea incursions, coastal erosion and the devastating effects of climate change. He noted that the destruction of homes, schools, businesses and critical infrastructure in the area serves as a painful reminder that environmental threats are no longer distant concerns but realities already impacting lives and livelihoods.

Poroye stressed that while Aiyetoro has suffered significant environmental degradation, several other coastal settlements across the oil-producing region are facing even more severe threats. He specifically identified Awoye, Gbagira and Mese as communities experiencing increasing pressure from rising sea levels, disappearing shorelines and environmental displacement.

“The loss of biodiversity, destruction of livelihoods and displacement of residents require immediate and coordinated intervention from governments at all levels, development partners and the international community,” he stated.

The OSOPADEC chairman emphasized that World Environment Day should not be limited to awareness campaigns but should inspire concrete actions aimed at protecting vulnerable communities and preserving the environment for future generations.

He advocated stronger investments in shoreline protection projects, environmental restoration programmes, tree planting initiatives, sustainable development practices and climate-resilient infrastructure capable of withstanding future environmental threats.

Poroye also commended the administration of Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for its commitment to addressing environmental challenges in the state’s coastal communities. He further praised the Ondo State Ministry of Environment, OSOPADEC and other stakeholders for their collaborative efforts towards safeguarding the environment and promoting sustainable development.

He expressed optimism that through collective action and sustained commitment, hope could be restored to threatened communities while building resilience against the adverse effects of climate change.

“As we mark this important day, we must move beyond awareness to action. Together, we can reclaim hope, strengthen resilience and build a sustainable future for Aiyetoro and all our riverine communities. The time to act is now,” Poroye declared.

The event brought together government officials, environmental experts, community leaders and residents, all united in their call for urgent measures to tackle coastal erosion, protect biodiversity and secure the future of Ondo State’s vulnerable coastal settlements.

Politics › OSOPADEC Chairman, Prince Olabiyi Poroye, Hon. Segun Iwalokun And Members Of The by Futureloaded(op): 9:34am On May 28
The Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye, alongside Hon. Segun Iwalokun and members of the Ilaje Legislative Council, has assured residents of the mandate areas that the ongoing Aboto–Atijere Road project will be completed before December 2026.

The assurance was given during an inspection visit to the road project as the delegation assessed the level of work done and reaffirmed the commitment of both OSOPADEC and the Ondo State Government to the completion of the project despite earlier setbacks.

Speaking during the inspection, Prince Poroye described the Aboto–Atijere Road as a critical infrastructure project due to its economic, social, and security importance to the oil-producing communities in Ilaje Local Government Area.

“We thank God for strength. We thank God for passion. We thank God for energy. We had this strong determination that, not minding all circumstances, Aboto–Atijere Road will be delivered before December this year,” he said.

The OSOPADEC Chairman recalled that the project was awarded in 2019 with an initial completion timeline of 24 months but experienced delays due to administrative and funding challenges.

According to him, the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has revived the project through renewed support and intervention, ensuring that work progresses steadily toward completion.

“This project should ordinarily have been completed long ago. We felt that with a serious-minded contractor backed by a committed governor and a focused commission like OSOPADEC, this road should be delivered once and for all so that attention can shift to other developmental projects,” Poroye stated.

He further explained that Governor Aiyedatiwa had intervened in resolving challenges affecting the project and appealed to the contractor to ensure the road is connected from Aboto to Atijere before the commencement of asphalt laying.

Prince Poroye noted that renewed attention on the road project was also informed by recurring tensions between Makun and Atijere communities, adding that improved accessibility would ease movement and strengthen peaceful coexistence among residents.

He disclosed that only about seven kilometres remain between Akata Junction and Atijere, expressing confidence that the contractor would meet the December completion deadline.

Also speaking during the inspection, the Managing Director of LEE FAKINO Nigeria Limited, Chief Akindele Fajemiyo, attributed earlier delays on the project to paucity of funds.

He, however, commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for providing assurances of adequate funding support to facilitate the speedy completion of the road.

“The job was actually awarded in 2019, but because of paucity of funds, we had not been able to do much. However, with the coming of Mr. Governor, the assurance is there that funds will not be a problem, and we must finish this job this year,” he said.

Fajemiyo assured residents that the road would be fully tarred from Aboto to Atijere before the end of the year.

He also appreciated the support and cooperation received from the OSOPADEC Chairman, management team, and youths from Aboto, Akata, and Atijere communities throughout the construction process.

In his remarks, the Oloja of Akata, Chief Oke Olejagbo, commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the leadership of OSOPADEC for their commitment to the project, expressing optimism that the road would bring lasting relief and development to the affected communities.

Politics › HOSTCOM Ondo State Seeks Inclusion Of Ilaje Ugboland Communities In Pipeline And by Futureloaded(op): 10:47am On Mar 28
ABUJA — Communities in Ilaje Ugboland, located in Ondo State, have formally appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for inclusion in pipeline and oil and gas facilities surveillance contracts in the Niger Delta region.

The appeal was made through an open letter signed by the Chairman of HOSTCOM Ondo State Chapter, Prince Adejugba Ogundere, who emphasized the strategic importance of Ilaje Ugboland as a major oil-producing corridor hosting both offshore and onshore assets.

According to the letter, several key oil fields operated by Chevron, including Meren 1, Meren 2, Malu, Oppolo, Parabe, Ewan, and Eko fields, are situated within the Ilaje operational area. The region also accommodates operations by companies such as Conoil Producing Plc, Sahara Energy, and other indigenous operators.

The communities stressed that their inclusion in surveillance operations is supported by the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act, which recognizes host communities as critical stakeholders in the protection of oil and gas infrastructure. The Act also provides for the establishment of the Host Community Development Trust and outlines community responsibilities in cases of vandalism.

They argued that local participation in surveillance activities would significantly enhance the protection of critical national assets, reduce incidents of vandalism, and improve operational efficiency through community-based intelligence.

The letter further noted that excluding host communities from such contracts creates security gaps, while their involvement would promote accountability, ownership, and sustained peace in the region.

The Ilaje communities reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding oil and gas facilities, supporting government policies, and maintaining peace and stability across the area.

They, however, called on the Federal Government to grant them a defined slot in the surveillance framework as part of efforts to strengthen national security and promote inclusive governance in the Niger Delta.

The Presidency has yet to officially respond to the request.
