The Councillor representing Ugbo Ward III in the Ilaje Local Government Legislative Council, Hon. Fayowole Minu Korolo, has demonstrated his commitment to educational advancement and youth development through the successful hosting of the maiden edition of the Ugbo Ward III Councillor’s Quiz Competition.

The academic competition, held on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at St. Paul FAC Primary School, Ilowo, attracted pupils, students, teachers, parents and other education stakeholders from across the ward.

The initiative, fully sponsored and organised by Hon. Korolo, was aimed at promoting academic excellence, stimulating intellectual curiosity, encouraging healthy competition among students and identifying outstanding talents at the grassroots.

The competition featured primary and secondary school categories. While the primary category involved three representatives from each primary school in Ugbo Ward III, the secondary school category featured two students each from the Science, Arts and Commercial classes of participating secondary schools.

Contestants demonstrated impressive knowledge, confidence and intellectual ability as they tackled questions covering Mathematics, English Language, Current Affairs and General Knowledge.

He explained that the competition was conceived to motivate students to take their education seriously, build their confidence and prepare them for greater academic and professional opportunities.

Ondo State Governor, His Excellency, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on Wednesday visited the scene of the Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash at Igbokoda, headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area, as search and recovery operations continued for the victims and the main wreckage.

The visit came amid growing grief over the tragic incident, with Ondo State APC chieftain, Hon. Lawrence Adenugba (Parie), mourning the souls of the faithful departed and extending his condolences to the families of the victims, the Nigerian Air Force and the Federal Government.

Adenugba described the incident as a painful national tragedy, praying for strength and comfort for the families and loved ones of the deceased.

At the crash site, Governor Aiyedatiwa described the incident as a national tragedy, noting that no survivor had been found as of the time of his visit.

The governor said the aircraft, which was carrying Nigerian Air Force personnel on a special mission from Benin to Lagos, appeared to have encountered difficulties before crashing in a swamp approximately 200 metres away from the community.

Aiyedatiwa said residents who witnessed the incident reported that the aircraft appeared to be coming down with a sound suggesting an engine problem, but that the pilot may have successfully manoeuvred it away from the populated area before the crash.

He said such a manoeuvre could have averted an even greater catastrophe had the aircraft crashed directly within the community.

The governor described the crash site as a “very gory sight”, with parts of bodies, clothing and aircraft components recovered and preserved for further investigation.

He disclosed that the main body of the aircraft had yet to be located, as it was believed to be deeply submerged in the swamp.

Aiyedatiwa said the difficult terrain had necessitated the deployment of amphibious machines, popularly known as swamp boogies, by the State Ministry of Works to create wider access for rescue teams and heavy boats.

He added that Nigerian Navy personnel and local divers were continuing the search for the missing bodies, cockpit and other parts of the wreckage.

The governor also disclosed that aviation fuel was flowing into the surrounding water, resulting in pollution of the area.

He commiserated with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Nigerian Air Force and the families of the deceased, describing the victims as young and capable Nigerians who dedicated themselves to defending the territorial integrity of the country.

Meanwhile, the Commander of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, Igbokoda, Captain Andy Alemongwa, briefed the governor on the progress of the ongoing search and recovery operation.

While commending the administration for recognising Christian and Islamic religious affairs through dedicated appointments, Ayesuwa noted that the absence of a similar position for traditional religion affairs represents an omission that deserves the attention of the state government.

According to him, Ondo State is deeply rooted in Yoruba history, culture, tradition and indigenous spiritual heritage, stressing that traditional institutions and indigenous religious practices form an important part of the cultural identity of the people.

Ayesuwa clarified that his appeal was not intended to place traditional religion above Christianity or Islam, but rather to promote fairness, inclusion and equal recognition within the state’s governance structure.

He explained that traditional religion extends beyond worship, as it is closely connected to Yoruba history, festivals, traditional institutions, indigenous knowledge, language, arts and community identity.

He specifically referenced Isese and other indigenous cultural celebrations as examples of traditions that continue to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of the Yoruba people.

AKURE — As Nigeria celebrates its 66th Independence Anniversary, Hon. Lawrence Adenugba (Parie) has joined Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and other stakeholders in marking the occasion, with particular attention to employment opportunities and the administration’s interventions across critical sectors of Ondo State’s economy.

ABUJA — The Creative Mobilization Initiative for Development (CMID) has called on the Federal Government to review age-related requirements for university admission, arguing that academically prepared young Nigerians should be given opportunities to advance their education without unnecessary delays.

The appeal was contained in a statement issued by the organisation and signed by its Director-General, Pastor James Ikuomola.

According to CMID, students who complete secondary school at relatively young ages could lose valuable academic years if they are required to wait before proceeding to university.

The organisation expressed concern that prolonged periods away from school could expose young people to idleness and other social challenges, while also placing additional financial pressure on their parents and guardians.

CMID further argued that admission decisions should take into consideration a candidate’s academic performance and readiness, rather than relying solely on age.

The group proposed the use of candidates’ UTME scores, Post-UTME performance and other appropriate academic assessments in determining whether younger applicants are ready for university education.

It also called for stronger guidance and counselling programmes for younger undergraduates to help them adjust to university life and develop appropriate social and academic skills.

CMID urged the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education and relevant regulatory authorities to engage stakeholders on the issue and develop an admission framework that balances age considerations with academic merit and student welfare.

ILaje, Ondo State — High Chief Prince Ambassador Adefowope Kayode Orioye, Founder of the Let Us Shout Hallelujah Foundation, has launched a major community development initiative in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, combining school construction, educational support and women empowerment.

The initiative, which was unveiled on September 16, 2026, in Igbogi, is aimed at improving access to educational resources, strengthening grassroots infrastructure and supporting women in Igbogi and neighbouring communities.

A major highlight of the intervention is the construction of a three-classroom school building with toilet facilities in Igbogi, providing pupils with improved facilities for learning.

The foundation also distributed exercise books to pupils and students across eight communities, including Igbogi, Ipepe, Temidire, Ugbonla, Ode-Ugbo, Odun Oyinbo and Obinehin, among others.

Speaking during the event, Orioye said the initiative was part of his decision to return home and contribute directly to the development of his community after previously undertaking similar projects in Jos, Abuja and Ogun State.

“I have been doing this project in other states like Jos, Abuja and Ogun State, and I said it is high time I come back home and develop my community and contribute. As God helps me, I will do my best.”

He expressed appreciation to community elders, women, youths and other stakeholders for their support, noting that collective participation would be important to the success and sustainability of the initiative.

₦4m Women Empowerment

Beyond education, the initiative also featured a women empowerment programme targeted at women from Igbogi and neighbouring communities.

Orioye provided ₦4 million for the empowerment component, with the intervention aimed at supporting beneficiaries and improving their economic wellbeing.

The initiative attracted traditional rulers, community leaders, youths, educators and residents who gathered to witness the commencement of the projects.

The Councillor representing Aheri Ward, Hon. Suru Mafimisebi, commended Orioye for his intervention and support for the people of Igbogi and surrounding communities.

Mafimisebi particularly highlighted the construction of the classroom block, distribution of exercise books and women empowerment initiative.

The Director-General of the Creative Mobilization Initiative for Development (CMID), Pst. James Ikuomola, has called on Nigerians to support and actively monitor the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Ikuomola, in a national message to Nigerians, said the reforms of the Tinubu administration are aimed at redirecting public resources towards projects and programmes that directly impact citizens.

He said funds previously committed to fuel subsidy are now being channelled into critical areas such as infrastructure, salaries, education, healthcare and social interventions.

The political machinery of The Lucky Guys (TLG) Youth Movement has received a fresh boost in Ondo State as the group activates its grassroots mobilisation structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The movement, in a renewed effort to strengthen its presence across the state, has commenced its campaign and mobilisation drive for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidates.

As part of the restructuring, Mr. Adeola Great Balogun has emerged as the new TLG Coordinator for Ilaje Local Government Area, a development expected to further expand the movement’s grassroots reach in the riverine community.

The new coordination structure was unveiled at a meeting involving the TLG State Secretariat and members of various support group structures, with Local Government Coordinators in attendance.

Speaking at the meeting, TLG Convener, Hon. Moyinolorun Ogunwumiju, tasked the coordinators with taking the movement beyond meetings and structures into communities, wards and grassroots networks.

Ogunwumiju urged members to embrace teamwork and discipline while working towards the political objectives of the movement and the broader interests of the APC.

AKURE — Team Lamp has applauded the Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for the administration’s decision to raise the 2026 state budget from N524.411 billion to N769.384 billion, describing the move as a bold step towards accelerating infrastructure development and improving the quality of life of residents.

The revised budget, which represents an increase of about N244.97 billion, is expected to strengthen government interventions in critical sectors, particularly road construction, water supply, healthcare and other strategic infrastructure projects across the state.

The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Olaolu Akindolire, disclosed the development after the State Executive Council meeting, explaining that the review followed a mid-year assessment of the implementation of the 2026 Appropriation Law.

The Appropriation Law, which was assented to on December 29, 2025, became effective on January 1, 2026. The revised appropriation has now been forwarded to the Ondo State House of Assembly for ratification.

According to the Commissioner, the review became necessary to address emerging funding requirements, realign budgetary provisions and ensure that government projects receive adequate financial support during the remaining months of the year.

A major highlight of the revised budget is the administration’s ambitious road construction programme.

Governor Aiyedatiwa has directed that at least five kilometres of roads be constructed in each of Ondo State’s 18 local government areas before the end of 2026, translating to a minimum of 90 kilometres of new roads across the state.

Team Lamp said the initiative demonstrates the governor’s commitment to ensuring that infrastructure development is not concentrated in major urban centres alone but reaches communities across the state.

The road projects are expected to enhance connectivity, facilitate the movement of agricultural produce, improve access to schools and healthcare facilities, connect communities to markets and ultimately stimulate economic activities in both rural and urban areas.

The revised budget will also provide additional funding for the Adegbola–St. Mathias Flyover along Oba Adesida Road in Alagbaka, Akure, further underscoring the administration’s determination to address major transportation and traffic challenges in the state capital.

Beyond roads, additional provisions have been made for water and healthcare, with development financing expected to support projects aimed at expanding access to potable water and strengthening healthcare service delivery.

Meanwhile, the State Executive Council also approved the appointment of Prof. Thompson Akinyele Akinifesi as the pioneer Ekingbade of Bolorunduro in Ondo East Local Government Area.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, said the appointment would usher in a new phase in the community, which serves as the headquarters of Bolorunduro Local Government.

The Council further approved the appointment of warrant chiefs to facilitate the selection processes for new traditional rulers in Ikun Akoko, Akoko South-West; Ute, Ose; and Ero, Ifedore Local Government Areas.

The process is expected to pave the way for the emergence of the new Olokun of Ikun Akoko, Olute of Ute and Ekiri of Ero.

The Commissioner assured that the government would continue to facilitate the smooth installation of traditional rulers in communities where new obas are due to emerge, while ensuring that the processes are conducted without undue interference.

Reaffirming the decisions of the State Executive Council, the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, said the Aiyedatiwa administration would continue to prioritise infrastructural development as part of its broader development agenda.
