OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: TUESDAY 7TH JULY 2020 THEME: WE ARE GOING HIGHER: WORSHIP MEMORISE: But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. John 4:23 READ: John 4:19-24 19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. 21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. MESSAGE Worship draws God’s attention. In fact, today’s memory verse says that God is actively searching for true worshipers. When Bartimaeus wanted to get the Lord’s attention, he called Him “Jesus, the son of David.” In Yoruba land where I come from, when you really want to get something from a man, you start by recounting his antecedents and achievements. We have never needed God’s attention more than now, so this is the time to increase our worship of Him. When you worship Him, He shows up in a great and unique way. In Acts 16:26, Paul and Silas worshipped Him and He showed up in an earthquake. In 2 Chronicles 20:22, Jehoshaphat and his people worshipped the Most High God and He made their enemies destroy one another. When you are faced with a battle, deploy the weapon of worship and watch the mighty power of God make you victorious. At a wedding in a parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, the groom fell and died just as he was about to sign the marriage register. The pastor began to cry to God in prayers for the young man’s life to be restored, but instead of coming alive, he got colder. Someone then remembered what I had always taught about praises, so he told everyone to switch to praising God. They had only been doing so for a few minutes when God showed up; the groom came back to life and the wedding ceremony continued. God always shows up when we worship Him in Spirit and in truth. John 4:24 says: “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” God loves to be worshipped. He wants to be called the Holy One of Israel, the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, the Rock of Ages, The Mighty Man of war, the Lord of lords, the Lord Strong and Mighty, the Lord mighty in battle, the King of kings, the Almighty God. Go ahead, take some time now to worship Him from the depth of your heart. ACTION POINT: Commit to a lifestyle of worship- in spirit and in truth. OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: MONDAY 6TH JULY 2020 THEME: WE ARE GOING HIGHER: PRAYER MEMORISE: Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 READ: Luke 18:1-7 1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; 2 Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: 3 And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. 4 And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; 5 Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. 6 And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. 7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? MESSAGE Prayer is part of the Christian life that is fast becoming unpopular, but it’s power has not reduced one bit. When I was a lecturer in the University of Ilorin, my-father-in-the-Lord- Pa Josiah Akindayomi came on a visit and passed the night in my house. Before I went to bed, he was praying; when I woke up to ease myself in the middle of the night, he was still praying. Worried, I asked him the next morning what was wrong. He responded that I would understand soon. He passed on and I became the General Overseer of the Church; with the enormity of task I faced, I started praying all night also. The country needs prayers so that ungodly policies will not stand; you need prayers so you don’t fall for the trick of the devil in this end times. Your children need prayers against the perverseness of this generation. The devil knows that if he can attack a Christian’s prayer life, then he can get that fellow. That is why he brings all sort of distractions to take your mind off prayers. Your work, family responsibilities, social media, television and even church activities are all things that he ensures take your time such that you have little time left for prayers. I pray for you: Your prayer altar will receive fire in the mighty name of Jesus. Many of the struggles that we experience today would not even have existed if only we prayed. You can move mountains and change seasons with your prayer. You are only shortchanging yourself when you don’t pray. James 5:16 says: “…The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” 1 John 5:14 says: “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:” Seeing all these promises in the ever-true word of God, you know that prayer can solve many of those issues that have lingered too long. As a Christian, you should pray at all times (1 Thessalonians 5:17). ACTION POINT: Double your prayer time as from today. If you have been praying for thirty minutes daily before, double it to one hour. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Jonah 1-4 AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE HYMN 24: PASS ME NOT O GENTLE SAVIOR. |
OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: SUNDAY 5TH JULY 2020 THEME: WE ARE GOING HIGHER: FASTING MEMORISE: In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and unclothedness. 2 Corinthians 11:27 READ: Mark 9:14 - 29 14 And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them. 15 And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him. 16 And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them? 17 And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit; 18 And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not. 19 He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me. 20 And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming. 21 And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child. 22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us. 23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. 24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief. 25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him. 26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead. 27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose. 28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out? 29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting. MESSAGE Fasting is highly underrated in this generation, whereas we need it now more than ever. If you used to fast once a month before, its time to increase it because we are in perilous times and it will take great strength to remain standing (Proverbs 24:10). When Jesus had to cast out a particular demon that the disciples had not been able to, He explained to them that: “ Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.” Matthew 17:21 Those who fast a lot see their decrees come to pass speedily. Elisha – a biblical personality with tremendous anointing, was almost always on the mountain. In 2 Kings 4:25, the Shunammite woman found him on Mount Carmel. In 2 King 6:15-17, when the king sent an army to arrest him, he was on a mountain. When fifty soldiers with their captain went to arrest him in 2 Kings 1:9-10, they found him on the mountain, yet could not go up; they had to ask him to come down. The word “mountain” in this context refers to fasting. There is a level of fasting you get to where the enemies cannot reach you; that is the point I want you to get to this season. Jesus, during His earthly ministry, fasted forty days and forty nights. If indeed you want to do greater works than Jesus did, you must be ready to fast more than He. When Jesus was on earth, He said His disciples did not need to fast, but that after He left, then they would (Mark 2:19-20). Now He has gone, so we must fast. If you have not been fasting before, start; take it one day at a time and if you feel hungry before the time before the time to break, go and pray. As you pray, the hungry pangs will cease. Also, when fasting, avoid talking so much as it weakens the body more quickly. Fasting will kill your flesh and awaken your spirit. It will bring you closer to God. Also ensure you break your fast with healthy meals and eat n moderation. You will discover that your thinking will be sharpened as your body will become healthier and your brain will even become more efficient. KEY POINT: Increase your fasting to reach greater spiritual heights. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Kings 14 2 Chronicles 25 AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE HYMN 20: NEARER MY GOD TO THEE. |
OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: SATURDAY 4TH JULY 2020 THEME: WHAT IS YOUR FOCUS MEMORISE: Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. Colossians 3:2 READ: Colossians 3:1-4 1If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. MESSAGE I was a Mathematics lecturer before I went into fulltime ministry and I know that in every class I taught, while there may have been many students there, not everyone’s focus was on understanding what was being taught. Some students were focused on the lecturer’s clothes, some on how he spoke, some on impressing the other students and so on. The same applies in the Kingdome of God. Many people call themselves Christians, but only a few have the right focus. All some people want from God is a new car, a new house, promotion and so on. I pity such people because they will get what they are focused on and lose out on the more important things. Jesus Christ, in Matthew 6:33 says: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” I am a living testimony of the efficacy of this scripture. I set my focus on the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and now I can’t count how many of these other things I have. The good part is that I am also on my way to Heaven. Focus on pleasing God; stop chasing shadows and pursue the substance. If you get the substance, you will automatically get the shadow too. Many people never reach the heights that God has ordained for them because somewhere along the line, they take their focus away from heaven and start pursuing material things. Ask anyone who has had a near death experience: they will tell you that material things, flashy as they may seem are not worth all the attention given to them. From now, make Paul’s admonition in 2 Corinthians 4:18 your lifestyle: “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” REFLECTION: Search your heart: What is really your focus as a Christian? OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: WEDNESDAY 24TH JUNE 2020 THEME: THE BLESSING OF THE BIRTHGRIGHT. MEMORISE: Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. 1 John 3:1 READ: Romans 8:16-26 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. 18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. 20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, 21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. 23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. 24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? 25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. 26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. MESSAGE Galatians 4:7 says “ Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.” And Romans 8:15 “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.” These Bible verses confirm that Christians are children of God who have received the birthright of sonship by grace, not merit. I pray that the grace of Abba Father will always work in your favor in the mighty name of Jesus. The first privilege we enjoy as children of God is that we move from the position of servants to that of children and heirs. Thus we must have passion for evangelism especially for those who believe they are self-made slaves of sin after the fall of Adam, God did not create His image-carrier -man, for the purpose of making a slave out of him. Galatians 4:6-7 says “And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.” In the story of the Syrophoenician woman in our text of today, Jesus Christ likened her to a dog and she did not refute it. This is because the verdict was from the Way, the Truth and the Life; He speaks with valid spiritual authority. Liberal theologies who want to be 21st Century compliant would want to re-write the Bible to make it “politically correct.” Some things, while politically correct, can be spiritually bankrupt. Beloved, to become a part of the family of God, you need to be born again by your faith in Jesus Christ (Galatians 3:26). Let Him cleanse you with His Blood. The food of salvation, deliverance, healing and prosperity meant for children of God will now become yours in the name of Jesus. if you are born again already, spread the good news! PRAYER POINT: Father, let the blessings of the Christian birthright be permanent in my life, in the mighty name of Jesus. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Kings 15:1-24 2 Chronicles 13-16 AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: TUESDAY 23RD JUNE 2020 THEME: THE BIGGER YOUR VISION, THE GREATER YOUR EXPLOITS. MEMORISE: And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. Luke 5:5 READ: 2 Kings 13:14-19 14 Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness whereof he died. And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. 15 And Elisha said unto him, Take bow and arrows. And he took unto him bow and arrows. 16 And he said to the king of Israel, Put thine hand upon the bow. And he put his hand upon it: and Elisha put his hands upon the king's hands. 17 And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the LORD's deliverance, and the arrow of deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them. 18 And he said, Take the arrows. And he took them. And he said unto the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground. And he smote thrice, and stayed. 19 And the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smitten five or six times; then hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it: whereas now thou shalt smite Syria but thrice. MESSAGE The anointing makes the difference between two weapons of warfare: the anointed one and the ordinary. David confirmed this in Psalm 20:7-8: “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God. They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright.” Beloved, regardless of how feeble your instrument of office or weapon of warfare may appear, you will do great exploits with it provided you identify with the Anointed of the Almighty- Jesus Christ. Accept, follow and obey His commandments today, and you will be victorious in all you do in life. Vision is so vital to doing exploits in life and usually has its origin in the spirit realm. Anyone with access to vision at any level is endowed with power to do exploits. That is why the bigger and clearer your vision, the greater your exploits. It is important, by the help of the Holy Spirit, to be able to discern the times of your favor or else you may miss them completely. God is the revealer of secrets. Romans 8:14 says: “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” The Holy spirit could decide to use any available means to communicate with you- revealing deep secrets and telling you of things to come. It could be through dream, revelation, vision or an audible voice. He could speak through a man of God at a programme, or He could send one to you directly. Apostle Peter fished all night without a single catch, but because he was sensitive enough spiritually to heed Jesus’ instruction, he received an overflow of blessings (Luke 5:6). I decree to your life today: God will give you an overflowing blessing that will impact your family, friends, and neighbors for good, in the mighty name of Jesus. PRAYER POINT: Father, please grant me vision, and power to do exploits in life, in the mighty name of Jesus. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Chronicles 10-12. AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: SUNDAY 21ST JUNE 2020 THEME: GOD OF IMPOSSIBILITIES MEMORISE: For with God nothing shall be impossible. Luke 1:37 READ: 2 Kings 7:1-2 Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; Thus saith the LORD, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria. 2 Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof. MESSAGE God is a specialist in handling situations tagged impossible. He can use your case to demonstrate to the world that there is no situation, no matter how bad that He cannot reverse. Have you been waiting a long time for that precious promise of God to come to pass? Your season of divine visitation has come in the mighty name of Jesus. Sarah-Abraham’s wife, laughed at the prophecy of her having a baby within a year. She knew her age and the deadness of her husband’s fertility system. Indeed, God had to ask them: “Is any thing too hard for the LORD?” Genesis18:14 For those of you who are overwhelmed by the doctor’s report concerning your case, I am here to let you know that the report of the Lord will override every negative report concerning you in the mighty name of Jesus. Lazarus was dead and buried; his grave must have started to stink, yet the Lord moved into the hopeless situation and reversed the irreversible (John 11:1-45). Are you struggling with poverty? Have you been labelled a permanent failure? Have you been told that at your age, there is no miracle that can cause you to receive your heart’s desire? If God sees that your season is naturally over, He reminds the world that HE changes times and seasons (Daniel 2:21). If the world boasts that they have finished your case, He reminds them that He knows what is in the darkness (Daniel 2:22). I pray for an expedited reversal of every negative circumstance in your life today. The Christian life is no ordinary natural existence; it is supernatural. It takes supernatural power to reverse the irreversible and move the immovable. This season, you will encounter the supernatural power of God, to the point where whatever was irreversible will be reversed, and whatever was immovable will be moved in you favor, in the mighty name of Jesus. PRAYER POINT: Father, please shake the earth and make the impossible possible in my life, in the mighty name of Jesus. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Proverbs 30-31 AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: WEDNESDAY 17TH JUNE 2020. THEME: SPIRITUAL INTIMACY. MEMORISE: Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. Matthew 11:29 READ: Acts 2:41-47 41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. 42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. 44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common; 45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. 46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, 47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. MESSAGE Knowing God is not the same as going to church or even being born again. The knowledge of God is first made evident through love. If you love God, it will show in the way you live and even interact with others. God is calling us into an intimate relationship with Him. If your life is in disagreement with God’s word, no matter how much you participate in Church activities or give offering to God, you would not be acceptable to Him, and your services would be in vain. “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:….made himself of no reputation…took upon him the form of a servant…. humbled himself, and became obedient unto death…..” Philippians 2:5-8 1 John 2:6 also says “He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.” Jesus Himself enjoins us to follow His example in all things. An intimate relationship with Jesus would lead to selflessness, humility, service to humanity, and total obedience of God. When you live according to the standard of God, He will be pleased with all you have to offer. Do you know that you can come before God with generous offerings, yet stir up His anger? This is because the offering of an unrepented sinner is an abomination before God (Proverbs 15: .An intimate relationship with God would help you fashion your life very closely after the example of our Lord Jesus in all things. The knowledge of God must bring us to the point of wisdom and enlightenment far beyond the ordinary. Above all, the knowledge of Jesus must lead to overflowing joy and peace. I pray that your knowledge of Jesus will grow greatly this season in the mighty name of Jesus. PRAYER POINT: Father, please help me to grow in intimacy with You, in the mighty name of Jesus. OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL.. DATE: MONDAY 15TH JUNE 2020 THEME: EVIDENCE OF A DIVINE ENCOUNTER MEMORISE: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 READ: Acts 4:8-14 8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, 9 If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; 10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. 11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. 13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. 14 And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it. MESSAGE God created every human being with the potential and ability to fulfil purpose. According to John 1:12, a very important part of God’s plan for every human being is to attain full sonship. Now, sonship starts from being born again then growing in the Spirit. This is where being with Jesus comes in. It is absolutely impossible for anyone to take this journey and exhibit Christ-like behavior unless the person has been with Jesus. Acts 4:13 says: “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.” Knowing that Peter and John were ordinary fishermen, the people marveled at their confidence, boldness and wisdom, realizing it could only be the result of a divine encounter. A divine encounter is the special visitation of the Holy Spirit. Without an encounter with the power of the Spirit, you would live far below your potential. To fulfil your destiny, you must partner with the Holy Spirit by seeking a divine encounter with Him. Peter realized his potential. Although initially full of fear, after Pentecost, he became so bold that even the council’s threats could not stop him. He had ordinarily lacked the fire, zeal, and direction because after Christ’s death, he stopped fishing for souls and returned to being an ordinary fisherman (John 21:1-3). However, after Pentecost, he was able to perform according to Heaven’s expectations. Like Peter, you need to encounter Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit, and everything you require to fulfill destiny will be provided in the mighty name of Jesus. Make a habit of spending time with Jesus daily, it will determine how far you will go. PRAYER POINT: Father, as I commit to spending more time with You, let Your presence be evidence in my life, in the mighty name of Jesus. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Kings 9. 2 Chronicles 8 AUTHOR: PASTOR E. OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: SATURDAY 13TH JUNE 2020. THEME: POWER OVER SIN. MEMORISE: For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. Matthew 26:28 READ: Galatians 3:20-26 20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. 21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. 22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. 23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. 24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. 26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. MESSAGE Many Christians think the law (the Old Testament) is no longer of any effect and thus behave carelessly, claiming that, that, because they are born again, grace covers all their sins. Paul clarifies this in the following Scripture: “But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.” The old covenant protected the people against temporal death, poverty, all forms of suffering and bondage but the new delivers eternally (Matthew 1:21; 26:28). Your ability to overcome sin is proof that you are a child of God, John the Beloved corroborated this when he said in 1 John 3:9 that “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.” Are we really children of God? If we still wallow in sin, we remain in the old dispensation and the letter of the law will punish us here and in the afterlife. The superiority of the new covenant over the old however is that, while the latter puts constraints to prevent sin, the new gives power over it. Romans 6:14 says: “For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.” We therefore have the assurance that grace will work for us. Romans 6:1 however cautions that we cannot remain in sin, expecting grace to abound. Rather, grace empowers us to conquer sin. You do not have any excuse to abide in sin. OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: FRIDAY 12TH JUNE 2020. THEME: DO MORE FOR GOD. MEMORISE: Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: let thy glory be above all the earth. Psalm 57:11 READ: Psalm 145:4-13 4 One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts. 5 I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works. 6 And men shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts: and I will declare thy greatness. 7 They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness, and shall sing of thy righteousness. 8 The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy. 9 The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works. 10 All thy works shall praise thee, O LORD; and thy saints shall bless thee. 11 They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power; 12 To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom. 13 Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations. MESSAGE Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. Ecclesiastes 9:10 While the government of Nigeria was planning for the 1977 Festival of Arts and Culture (FESTAC), it occurred to me that, since it was going to be a public holiday, I could gather students to study the Bible, pray and dance for Jesus instead. I got the necessary information and approvals, the wrote letters to the schools. However, I did not have money to post the letters, not to mention feeding and accommodating the students, as I had promised. A friend had offered his savings of N4,000 but we still needed more, so I had to sell my car. That programme which started small is now known all over the world as the RCCG Congress. I was not even the General Overseer then, just a Christian who wanted to lift Jesus’ name above all else. In 1998, a politician claimed he could gather two million people in a place. I thought: “If he can gather two million people for himself, we can gather four million people for God.” So Lekki ’98 held and by God’s grace, over six million people attended, causing a great revival in Nigeria. At another time, a popular brand announced a goal of having at least one consumer in every family of the world. I was challenged; I believed we could do that for God too. There could be at least one member of the RCCG in every family of the world. Today, the RCCG is over 197 countries of the world. As Christians, we must match and outwit every secular dream. No more timidity! Do everything to ensure that God’s name is praised above all others. If you make a move, God will do the rest. Do more for Godalways. REFLECTION: We are the Apostles of our time. How much are we doing to propagate the gospel? BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Kings 8. 2 Chronicles 5 AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE HYMN 7: GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS. |
OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: THURSDAY 11TH JUNE 2020. THEME: HE SAYS: “WEEP NOT!” MEMORISE: And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you. John 16:22 READ: Luke 7:11-15 11 And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people. 12 Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. 13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. 14 And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. 15 And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother. MESSAGE Weeping is a natural response to sorrow and pain, which abounds in the world today because the devil is busy stealing, killing and destroying lives and destinies. The good news however, is that our Lord Jesus Christ and He alone, has the power to wipe away tears and put an end to calamities and loss. “And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.” Luke 7:13 Jesus is saying to you also today “Weep not.” There was a man who had lived in sorrow and pain for thirty-eight years because, according to him. He had no one to help him. When Jesus came to the scene, his problem was solved without any human assistance. No matter the number of years of suffering you may have experienced, the Almighty God will attend to your situation right now in the mighty name of Jesus. I want you to know that your moment of refreshing is around the corner. Don’t quit; the Almighty God will restore to you all that you have lost. In Job Chapter 1, there were reports upon report of all the disasters befalling everything Job had- including his children. However, the Bible tells us that the Almighty God blessed the latter days of Job more than the former (Job 42). I want you to rest assured that no matter how harsh the economic climate may be, the Almighty God will sort you out in the mighty name of Jesus. There is also hope for nations. In 2 Kings 7:1, the economy of Samaria was so bad, but the man of God prophesied that things would dramatically change for the better within twenty-four hours. Those who understood global economics said it was impossible, but the Almighty God performed His word. Weep not; the rain of God’s grace and mercy is about to fall in your life and nation, in the mighty name of Jesus. PRAYER POINT: In the mighty name of Jesus, I will never weep again. OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: TUESDAY 9TH JUNE 2020. THEME: THE UNCHANGING CHRIST MEMORISE: Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15:58 READ: John 5:20-29 20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel. 21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will. 22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: 23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him. 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. 25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. 26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; 27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man. 28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. MESSAGE For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. Malachi 3:6 The statement above was made by God the Father and is representative of the entire God-head. We live in very dynamic times, and this could make the future frightening, but there is hope for those who have faith in the Unchanging Christ, the Son of the Living God. Everything can change but God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit will never change; neither will His standards. “And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.” Luke 16:17 He said to those who are going into marriage “…Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.” (Mark 10:11-12). When the Pharisees attempted to justify divorce from the point of view of the Law of Moses, Jesus said: “Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female... Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.” (Matthew 19:4, . Whoever decides to flout this divine arrangement does so to his or her own peril, even though the consequence may not be immediate. Reuben slept with his stepmother but the consequence surfaced after many decades when he should have received blessings from his father (Genesis 49:4). May those things that we regard as inconsequential not prevent us from entering into the Kingdom of God in the mighty name of Jesus. God’s standard does not change. Remember, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today and forever” (Hebrews 13: .PRAYER POINT: Father, please build up my faith in the unchanging Christ. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Proverbs 22-24. OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: MONDAY 8TH JUNE 2020. THEME: END-TIME REFORMERS. MEMORISE: The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. Mark 1:3 READ: 2 Kings 23:1-8 1And the king sent, and they gathered unto him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem. 2 And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of the LORD. 3 And the king stood by a pillar, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all their heart and all their soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people stood to the covenant. 4 And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the door, to bring forth out of the temple of the LORD all the vessels that were made for Baal, and for the grove, and for all the host of heaven: and he burned them without Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried the ashes of them unto Bethel. 5 And he put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places round about Jerusalem; them also that burned incense unto Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven. 6 And he brought out the grove from the house of the LORD, without Jerusalem, unto the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron, and stamped it small to powder, and cast the powder thereof upon the graves of the children of the people. 7 And he brake down the houses of the sodomites, that were by the house of the LORD, where the women wove hangings for the grove. 8 And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beersheba, and brake down the high places of the gates that were in the entering in of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man's left hand at the gate of the city. MESSAGE At various times in history, whenever the people of God appeared to have lost their spiritual antennae, God would usually raise a reformer to start off a revival. In biblical terms, a reformer is a person ordained by God to carry out correctional changes in order to rectify ungodly practices. May we yield ourselves to be used as reformers to ignite the fire of revival in the body of Christ today in the mighty name of Jesus. Reformers include Josiah, Asa, and Hezekiah-kings who rules over Israel at different times in history, as well as prophets Ezekiel, Ezra, Nehemiah and John the Baptist to mention a few. The reformation of Asa- king of Judah is summarized in 1 Kings 15:12-13 thus: “ And he took away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made. And also Maachah his mother, even her he removed from being queen, because she had made an idol in a grove; and Asa destroyed her idol, and burnt it by the brook Kidron.” True Christians who once pledge allegiance to God could afterwards turn back to live contrary to their avowed beliefs and declaration of faith. Some people come to accept Jesus at the peak of their hopeless situations only to abandon Him after receiving divine solutions to their problems. The Church is currently in a state of regression; many Christians are no longer living according to God’s word but rather, the standards of the world. We the children of God must be reformers- people who would do the right thing no matter the cost. We must be people who will instruct fledgling and backslidden Christians, as well as unbelievers to completely obey the word of God at all times. God is seeking reformers; are you one? PRAYER POINT: Father, please help me to be a reformer in these end times, in the mighty name of Jesus. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Proverbs 16-18. AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: SUNDAY 7TH JUNE 2020. THEME: GATES OF ADVERSITY MUST BE LIFTED. MEMORISE: And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed. Acts 16:26 READ: Psalm 24:7-10 7 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. 8 Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. 9 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. 10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah. MESSAGE Gates of adversity are seemingly insurmountable obstacles- be it an individual, kingdom or situation, obstructing the progress of a person or group of people. Biblical examples of gates of adversity include Pharaoh with the Egyptian army, the wall of Jericho and Goliath the Philistine. Situations representative of gate of adversity include mountains, poverty, sickness, slavery, captivity, siege, and barrenness. Those who are held bound by such gates would therefore find it extremely difficult to succeed in life. These conditions have consistently proven insurmountable by human effort, but Mark 10:27 says “…With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.” God’s purpose for mankind is seen in Genesis 1:28 where God commanded us to “…be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion…” Manifestations of contrary circumstances in life are abnormalities usually brought about by sin and hidden works of the devil. “Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.” Psalm 24:7 My Daddy- the creator of heaven and earth, the Almighty, can destroy every gate of adversity. Zechariah 4:7 says, “Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain…” Isaiah 10:27 also says “…and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.” Are you troubled by any gate of adversity? If you haven’t accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, do so now. If you are born again, then commit to serving God for the rest of your life and He will fight for you. I command every gate of adversity in your life to be destroyed now in the mighty name of Jesus. PRAYER POINT: Father, please uproot every gate of adversity in my life and family today, in the mighty name of Jesus. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Proverbs 16-18. AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: SATURDAY 6TH JUNE 2020 THEME: BABY KING? MEMORISE: Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning! Ecclesiastes 10:16 READ: Ecclesiastes 10:16-18 16 Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning! 17 Blessed art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness! 18 By much slothfulness the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through. MESSAGE In the previous study, the father was rightly described as the priest of the home. He is however also the king of the home. What a father does will have effect on every member of his family. As a father, you cannot afford to act like a child. From our memory verse, we see that it is the family that would suffer for the childishness of their king (the father). Remember that everything you do is an example for your children. When you drink or send your son to buy you cigarettes, you are already introducing him to that lifestyle. When your children see you having an affair with a strange woman, you are sowing a terrible seed in their hearts. The way you talk to their mother is probably how your sons will talk to their wives too. As mentioned earlier, you are the priest of the home, when the priest is spiritually asleep, God help that home! There are some demonic issues that a father need only issue a command for them to disappear, but if he is a spiritual baby, such issues would linger. As a father, how often do you pray for and on your children? Are you deliberate about teaching them the word of God? Another reason for you to watch your spiritual life is that children could reap the harvest of the spiritual seeds their fathers have sown. In 1 Kings 11:34, God softened Solomon’s punishment for misbehaving because of David his father. “Howbeit I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand: but I will make him prince all the days of his life for David my servant's sake, whom I chose, because he kept my commandments and my statutes:” Jonathan on the other hand was a good boy, but he partook in the punishment of his father and died a shameful death. I pity any child who has a baby as a father and I pray that God will rescue such children from any danger that their father’s ignorance or ‘childishness’ can cause them in the mighty name of Jesus. OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: FRIDAY 5TH JUNE 2020. THEME: MARRIAGE CHRIST’S EXAMPLE II. MEMORISE: Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; Ephesians 5:25 READ: Ephesians 5:25-31 25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: 30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. MESSAGE Christ has an undying love for the Church, since His relationship with the Church is our model, let me ask: Brother, do you love your wife enough to die for her? If a husband loves his wife genuinely, a lot of the usual problems they complain about would be avoided. As a man, you should not buy new shirts for yourself and ‘forget’ to get for your wife; that may just show how little you love her. 2 Corinthians 8:9 says Jesus became poor so that we can be rich. She should be your priority, looking better and more radiant than you. This is one thing I admire about men from the igbo ethnic group of Nigeria. They take very good care of their wives. While the man may don just singlets and shorts, his wife would array in the best fashion. Some men find it difficult to spend time with their wives. If you really love someone, you should, you should spend time with the person. Jesus said if you call Him at any time, He would answer (Jeremiah 33:3). That is how you should be with your wife; anytime she needs you, you should be there. You are the priest of the home just as Jesus is the Church’s high priest. When you express your love for your wife, she will cook better meals for you, and look more radiant, more beautiful for you. “………He that loveth his wife loveth himself.” Ephesians 5:28 From the experience of Job, we see that a man’s wife is his life. God told Satan that he could touch all that Job had except his life. Satan killed Job’s children, destroyed all his property, inflicted his flesh with sicknesses and diseases, but did not touch his wife. She was unscathed because God had said “Don’t touch Job’s life”; and since they were one, his life was hers and hers was his. Whatever you do to your wife, you are actually doing to yourself. She should be loved, protected, nourished and cherished greatly because your life depends on it. God is taking note! If you don’t believe, read Malachi 2:12-14. Don’t cheat yourself. REFLECTION: How well do you express your love for your wife? Remember, actions speak louder than words. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Proverbs 10-12. AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: WEDNESDAY 3RD JUNE 2020 THEME: BEWARE OF STRANGE FIRE MEMORISE: And Nadab and Abihu died, when they offered strange fire before the LORD. Numbers 26:61 READ: Hebrews 13:8-13 8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. 9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein. 10 We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle. 11 For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp. 12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate. 13 Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach. MESSAGE In the physical realm, there are different types of fire used for varying constructive or destructive purpose. This is also true in the spiritual realm where fire could be godly or ungodly, constructive or destructive. The Holy Spirit is the source of godly fire. Samson tearing a lion apart in Judges 14:5-6 is a classic example of what you can do when the Spirit kindles godly fire inside you. When He kindles fire in you, supernatural power comes and you are able to overcome your enemies. On the other hand, an ungodly fire produces a desire to perform acts (or an act) that negates God’s will and commandments. It destroys completely. It can also be an ungodly act in itself as we see in the case of Nadab and Abihu who died because they offered strange fire before the Lord. “And Nadab and Abihu died, when they offered strange fire before the LORD.” Numbers 26:61 The ungodly fire made Samson go after strange women. It destroyed him. Some years ago, one of my spiritual sons was confronted with a strange fire of erotic emotions with his secretary. He sought spiritual counsel from me and I told him plainly to sack her immediately. He did and the strange fire was quenched. When you allow strange fire to grow, it will destroy. This is why the Lord wants you to beware of strange fire. Strange fire could be unbiblical worship. For example, an intending couple should not spend nights together alone in the name of prayer vigil. It is strange fire when a lady comes to minister at the altar with sensitive parts of her body exposed. A pastor that introduces the blood of animals as a means of anointing during deliverance service is also dealing in strange fire. It destroys. Read the Bible and crosscheck your life today for any such appearance. If there is, put it out from the source immediately. PRAYER POINT: Father, deliver your Church from strange fire, in the Mighty Name of Jesus. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Proverbs 4-6. AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE HYMN 2: ALL TO JESUS I SURRENDER. |
OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: TUESDAY 2ND JUNE 2020 THEME: THE WORD DELIVERS! MEMORISE: He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. Psalm 107:20. READ: Matthew 8:5-13 5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, 6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. 7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. 8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. 9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. 10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. 11 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven. 12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour. MESSAGE And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. Genesis 1:3 There is power in God’s word. By it, He created the universe and still does wonders today. In today’s Bible reading, Jesus had wanted to visit the home of a Centurion to heal his servant but was surprised when the Centurion asked Him to “speak the word only” (Matthew 8:8-10). Jesus spoke and the servant was indeed healed (Matthew 8:13). This was a fulfilment of the prophesy “He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.” (Psalm 107:20). A lot of people keep searching for deliverance, yet they disregard the most potent weapon- the word of God. For example, God’s word came to Caln but he ignored it. The word was meant to warn him, to deliver him from the possible error and subsequent sorrow and perdition, but he let the opportunity slip away through envy (Genesis 4:6-7). Dear reader, the word of God is coming to you today, do not ignore it. God’s word says “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26:41). What should you do? Obey, watch, watch, increase your prayer time so temptation will not sweep you away from the faith. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. (Romans 6:14). Believe the word and you will be free from sin permanently. Philippians 4:19 says “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” if you believe, poverty shall become history in your life. If you are sick, 1 Peter 2:24 says by Christ’s stripes, we have been healed. Beloved, as you believe the Word today, you will experience a positive turnaround in the mighty name of Jesus. PRAYER POINT: Father, please help me live a life of faith, so the Word You have sent may deliver me from all destructions. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Proverbs 1-3. AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE HYMN 14: IMORTAL, INVISIBLE, GOD ONLY WISE. |
OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: SATURDAY 30TH MAY 2020 THEME: MAKE SOULWINNING YOUR LIFESTYLE. MEMORISE: The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise. Proverbs 11:30 READ: Luke 10:1-3 1After these things the LORD appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. 2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. 3 Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves. MESSAGE Despite all your endeavors, if you are not actively winning souls, you are courting fruitlessness, and believe me, you don’t want to face the consequences of being fruitless, as stated in John 15:1-2: “I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.” If you are wise, you will make soul winning a priority in everything you do. When churches organize programmes with great crowds gathered and at the end of the day, there is no call for salvation, I just think “what a waste of time, effort and money.” What is the essence of doing anything at all in the Church if it will not ultimately lead more people to heaven? What is the essence of organizing concerts, doing jamboree and shouting to praise the Most High God if we do not prioritize His very heart beat- bringing lost souls back to His Kingdom? If you are a leader in any capacity in the body of Christ, I am speaking to you now. Whatever you are planning to organize in the Church that will not ultimately win souls to God’s kingdom or help already won souls to stand more firmly for God is a complete waste of time. If you are not bearing fruits, God Himself will take you away from the Vine. What a fearful thing it is if God himself separates you from Jesus Christ! In your secular activities too, you must use every opportunity to win souls. Imagine how many terrorists would have been won to Christ, imagine how many parents of wayward children would have trained their children on the right path, if we had been using every available opportunity to win souls. Anytime I am invited for honorary awards anywhere around the world, as long as I have that microphone in my hand and a few seconds to talk, I will appreciate the giver of the award and remind them that Jesus is coming soon with His own reward. No matter where you are, no matter who you are, no matter what you do, make soulwinning your lifestyle. REFLECTION: How well do you use all platforms at your disposal to win souls into the Kingdom of God? BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 King 3-4 2 Chronicles 1 Psalm 72. AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: THURSDAY 28TH MAY 2020 THEME: GOD WILL REWARD YOU MEMORISE: And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward. Matthew 10:42 READ: Matthew 6:1-6 1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. 2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: 4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly. 5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. MESSAGE Expecting reciprocal help from those you have helped may not be wise. God does not always work that way. "For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?" Matthew 5:46 In today’s memory verse, Jesus promises a reward to whoever gives a drink to any young and defenseless person for the gospel's sake. This is indeed encouraging and reassuring. Going by this, as children of God, we must do good to all men, regardless of their affiliations. That way, we will be like our impartial Father who causes the rain to fall and sun to shine on both the good and the evil. Sometimes ago, a Christian couple fed an unbelieving young man. This gesture eventually made him give his life to Christ. Today, that young man is the founder of a successful Christian organization with many branches across Nigeria. Imagine the effects of one good deed. Jesus warned against doing good deeds because of the praise of men (Matthew 6:1-6). For many years, Christians generally adhered to this. However, things are changing really fast today. Some people even publicize their trips to motherless babies’ homes. Jesus says in Matthew 6:2: “Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.” The Lord wants you to always do good to your neighbours. This way, you will show you are a true child of your Father. “…he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.” (Proverbs 14:21). Follow peace with all men and show kindness to everyone. God will surely reward you. ACTION POINT: Look out for the poor in your community and be good to them. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Kings 1-2 Psalm 37, 71, 94 AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: WEDNESDAY 27TH MAY 2020 THEME: COMMAND YOUR HOUSEHOLD MEMORISE: And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 READ: Genesis 18:19 19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him. MESSAGE It is most surprising that the children of Christians of the outgoing generation appear to be missing in action today. Typically, if a Christian couple had three children for example the next generation should therefore have at least three people standing for God, but this is clearly not so. Now we have worldly musicians whose parents are leaders in the church. The devil may be working hard to make the world a corrupt place, but a lot of Christian parents seem to be helping him get the job done faster. How can Christian parents dress their children in revealing clothes? Everything you introduce to your children now will be normal to them as they grow. If you are already dressing your daughter in revealing clothes now that she is little, she would most likely wear even more provocative ones when she is a teenager. If you are a child of God, you must make sure that your children emulate you in the things you do, the way you talk and even the things you love. You instill this in them by showing them what is right and what is wrong as they grow up. Some parents go to church and leave their children at home, claiming that they don’t want to force them to serve God; they want them to grow up to love God by themselves. I pity them because they are just giving the devil a free hand with their children. Do you let the child decide if he wants to go to school or not? God said about Abraham in Genesis 18:19: “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD…..” Can God say the same thing about you? Before you evangelize to the unbelievers outside, are you sure that there is no unbeliever in your home? Watch what they wear, what they say, who their friends are. Teach them to read their Bible and to pray. When you teach your children to live godly lives, you will have rest in your old age because the Holy Spirit in them will not allow them to misbehave. If you have a child who is already going wayward, I pray that he/she would encounter Christ and change for the better in the mighty name of Jesus. ACTION POINT: Every day, as you teach them, pray for your children that they will walk in the ways of the Most High God all their lives. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 111-118. AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: TUESDAY 26TH MAY 2020 THEME: CHOOSE HAPPINESS MEMORISE: If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them. John 13:17 READ: John 13:13-17 13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. 16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. 17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them. MESSAGE Today’s memory verse makes us know clearly that we can influence our happiness. We can also deduce that knowledge is a requirement for happiness and this knowledge is from God. “ If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him….. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” James 1:5,17 Getting knowledge too is a choice. There are people who have refused education despite so much persuasion. Most of such people end up as failures and become unhappy for the rest of their lives. It was however their choice. Likewise, some people deliberately follow other gods and this too could be a source of sorrow (Psalm 16:4). As temporal as wealth is when compared with spiritual and eternal blessings, lack of it may cause unhappiness. Even the Bible says “The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.” (Proverbs 22:7). How can you become happy and remain so? Beloved, it is not enough to have knowledge, we must learn to do (John 13:17). In today’s Bible reading, Jesus taught His disciples a secret of happiness- service to God and humanity. When you serve God and make Him the Lord over all your affairs, you will be happy (Psalm 144:15). We would also be happy if you know how to get out of poverty in a Godly manner. Act according to Malachi 3:10 which commands us to pay our tithes so the widows of heavenly blessings can be open upon the works of your hands. Beloved, I encourage you to choose happiness today. Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God and the Savior of the world is the only way to true happiness and eternal life (John 3:16-18). PRAYER POINT: Father, I choose to be happy today; I come to You through Your Son, Jesus. please, give me joy eternal. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Chronicles 26-29 Psalm 127. AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A.
