Where in Nigeria does 15tubers of Yam sells for 8k? Abi which way nau..

I don't understand this guy again o, ..is it that he's deliberately doing this or what?

Haba nau

SE the Nigeria we gather dey so?
Pls just kindly ignore him.

A crate of egg is #5100 last in Akure and some places more .

Baby food are no go area, even medicine (drugs) are something else..

And he said Nigerians now have side hustle?? Like seriously?? How many Nigerian have side hustle?

Haba nau

A Congo of Nigeria rice in akure is #3350 while that of beans is #3500, ahhh

Gari is around #1300,

abi does he not know what is saying ni..

A 150k income now in today's Nigeria can't feed a family of 4, father mother and 2 kids..

School fee is something else, and yet you are still defending this government and telling us that all is well in Nigeria.

Nigeria where some people are still being paid #25k per month, I meant even a larger percentage of the population earns below 70k a month..
@bolded I am somewhere in the north and I bought 15 tubers of yam for 8k. It will take my family of 5 for one month by God's grace.
People earning so poorly are making far more by other means.

Stop buying things at expensive places. Be smart. Seek out where you can get better deals and stop whining like a...

Also, get side hustles to assist. Nobody relies solely on salary in Nigeria. My boss earning over 30m annually still has a side hustle.

The reality of the average Nigerian is theory? Lol.

I was in Nigeria as early as last year. See, it is not theory. I experienced it. The suffering of Nigerians is not theory. It is real. Spaghetti is over 1k. ONE PACK OF SPAGHETTI IS OVER 1K. Does that make sense to you? Are you happy buying spaghetti for over 1k? A bag of rice is over 100k. ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND FOR A BAG OF RICE. Is that fine by you?

Those Superstores you casually dismissed as a non-Nigerian thing, have Nigerians working in/with them as cashiers, securities, distributors, suppliers, attendants, and managers. Real Nigerians without the privileges you enjoy, have had their means of livelihood truncated because of how bad the economy is. But because it does not affect you, everything is fine.

Yam, indeed, is cheaper here than it is in Nigeria, even though the UK does not grow yams. I know you cannot wrap your head around it. And that's okay.

You say Nigeria is better than the UK. See, you are right o. No need to convince you again.
I never said there is no hardship in Nigeria. But my point is that the UK is not any better aside the fact that when you send pounds home it becomes substantial. That's the only edge the UK has!

But then you did not just land in the UK. It cost a fortune!! Have you recouped your investmenthuh

Spaghetti is 1k and so? Haven't wages increasedhuh Must you buy a bag of rice? When a bag of rice was 7k, how many people bought it? Must you buy foreign rice that is not even sweet? I don't buy a bag of rice and what I buy takes me for the month.

You are just consoling yourself for the advanced slave life you are living abroad. That is why you can senselessly say yam is cheaper in UK than Nigeria angry

Nigerians are still getting by by God's grace. Stop taking Panadol for another's headache. Thank you.

Once again, it is all about "me, myself, I, my family, my mom". Zero thoughts for the millions of Nigerians who will queue to buy fuel for over 1k and buy a crate of eggs for 10k. As long as none of that affects you and your family, everything is great and Nigeria is better than the UK.

All the best brother.

While at it, check out this link - https://www.nairaland.com/8238928/economic-hardship-bites-superstores-lose. But since you can afford yam, everything is okay.
You are talking theories.

I am talking facts. Hence I can use myself to illustrate. And I consider myself a hustler.

Superstores are NOT a Nigerian thing. To hell with them.

The drivers in your company is earning 110k. Great. How many drivers earn that amount monthly?

Now, consider the cost of food all across the nation. One pack of spaghetti is 1k. A crate of eggs is almost 6k. Even someone who earns above 200k is complaining. Things are bad in Nigeria bro. Go outside. From Lagos to Maiduguri. Do you know a tuber of yam is cheaper here than it is in Nigeria? Here, with 10 pounds, (less than the minimum wage), you can stock up food that will last you for a week. These are the issues.
You are just saying rubbish!!! I bought 15 tubers of yam for 8k. It will last my family of 5 for one month. People will still eat egg. They will either buy or rare free roaming birds that will lay eggs.

Samguine:
Omo!! In this same Nigeria?

The issue I have with what you are saying is the fact that everything you've been saying is "me, me, me, me, me". You are just one out of 200m people. How are others surviving? Do you go to the market? Are people happy? Are Nigerians happy? Remove the focus from yourself for a minute and imagine the pains of millions of Nigerians.
You are the one taking Panadol for another's headache. I am not yet rich. And I am not in the management cadre in my organisation. So why can't use myself as an example? I have neighbours who earn far less than I do. Yet I have not seen anybody go cap in had begging to feed. The security guys in my office most likely use more sophisticated phones than you. And I can't even remember the last time I gave them a tip.

The problem is that we Nigerians have been used to stupid unsustainable subsidies and freebies over the years. Now, we have to adjust to reality.

You keep referencing the very ebb of the society as if there are no homeless people in the UK. Here, nobody sleeps outside. Only in Lagos do people live under the bridge before they break through. Yet in their condition, they are still 'balling'.

Samguine:
I lived in Lagos bro. I experience these. The aviation industry is experiencing issues because people cannot afford to fly, mostly. Lagos to Abuja, one-way flight, is about 100k. I flew from London to Nuremberg for 28 Euros. That is about 55k. Can't you see the differencehuhhuh
100k is okay. That is not our headache now.

Samguine:
You should not be bragging about 24-hour light in 2024. You don't get it?? Electricity is not a big deal here. Nobody celebrates 24 hours of light here. It is a constant k. That is the level we want Nigeria to get to.
One of the points you lots always use to bash Nigeria is that we don't have light. Now, we have 24 hours light and you say it's no big deal as if you were not the one who raised the point ab initio.

Samguine:
Nigerians never rely on their salaries, maybe because it is never enough? You can live well on your salary here, whether you are a carer washing bum bum, a security, or the CEO of an organization. If you plan enough, you salary is enough to sustain you and live a good life.
People get involved in multiple side hustles that help them besides their salary. Salary job is just a means of getting out of the house and being open to opportunities.
I am on online publisher as a side hustle and I earn forex by God's grace.

Samguine:
Again, read up on credit-based systems. It is not a bad thing. Also, know that not everyone automatically qualifies for credit. You have to be creditworthy. On a good day, I want to be in a country that works. And we need Nigeria to work for not just people like you, but for everyone.
Forget that thing. Gbese is gbese. Even the Bible says we NOT owe anyone anything. How will you pay your tithe if you are in debthuh

There is nothing good about debt. You have been tied down. And your future is not in your hands. Chikena. angry

Samguine:
We are not vacation people? Simply because we can't afford it grin. How would you know the value of a thing if you have not experienced it?
Nigerians won't even visit exotic locations in Nigeria for vacation. There are a number of exotic tourism sites I can visit that will cost me close to nothing where I stay yet I have not visited them. Vacation is simply not our thing.

Samguine:
Security guards live in their own houses and buy cars, in Nigeria? Do you mean Dangote's security or that man that guards the banks and asks you for 100 Naira to feed when you go to deposit money?
Stop taking Panadol for another's headache. Just know that everybody here is getting by. Better keep your NGN100 to yourself than dash anyone here.

Samguine:
Again, read up about credit-based systems. Whether you purchased It outright, or with credit, it is yours.
It's not yours until you've fully paid the debt. That's why you can be kicked out of your mortgaged house if you default once. grin

Samguine:
Again, look away from yourself. You are just one out of a million people. You probably have access to insurance. How many Nigerians can afford insurance? How many communities in Nigeria have access to the government hospital you have access to? In the case of an emergency, you Nigerians access an ambulance?
No I am not. I am still a hustler. Many guys around me are balling. Yet their monthly salary may not even be up to mine.

Samguine:
You need to understand how the medical/health system here works. You do not just have access to random drugs. People bring drugs because it is not easy to buy drugs here. The system is regulated to prevent abuse of drugs. A report says that some strains of malaria are now resistant to some antibiotics we use in Nigeria because of abuse. Is that okay?
Sure, they won't want you to have easy access to regular drugs so that they can have a proper leash on you and your financial destiny.
They want to control your life 100%
Healthcare here is open with many options available. cool

Samguine:
No bro. I have spent about 9 months here, since that time:

- No blink in my electricity. For 9 months. I do not even think about electricity again. It is a constant k for us here
- I have never heard of fuel scarcity or seen a fuel queue.
- Food is cheap. If I work for 3 hours, I can buy food that we last me for a month. I want Nigerians to have this same privilege
- I applied for a Schengen visa after two months here. I got it. Access to over 20 countries. I am not sure I will even get an interview date in Nigeria.
I can't remember the last time I queued for fuel. People only queue where the fuel is a bit cheaper(NNPC).
Power is available here and we now turn it off to conserve our units.
Food is still cheaper here than UK. And when we start eating more of GMO foods like you guys, it will get even cheaper. cheesy
What is the big deal about Schengen ganhuh

Samguine:
Moving to the UK has changed my life Bro and I wish every Nigerian will experience the change in life I have too. If anyone does not fancy japa and wants to stay in Nigeria, that's okay too. That means we have to ensure Nigeria works for everyone.

There is no way you will experience abroad and think we are doing well in Nigeria. No way!
Goodluck to you!
But NEVER think you are better than anyone in your category back here.
Most of your guys japaed just to keep up with the joneses and are codedly regretting it. And then you resort to consoling yourself with irrelevant, obsolete points like power, good roads etc.

My family are all over US, UK, Canada etc

My mum was in UK last year. She was NOT pleased one bit. sad

Nigeria is nowhere near perfect. But it does not make life here harder than abroad. NEVER!!!

Show me one minimum wage worker earning 70k, not to talk of 110k. The minimum wage of 30k, how many people are earning it? Only 10m Nigerians (5% of 200m) have up to 500k in their accounts.

You work in a major industry, thank God. How many Nigerians have that kind of testimony? Privilege blinds indeed. What you don't know is a security person here has better quality of life, better prospects, and better living conditions than most "rich" people in Nigeria. That security person earns a decent living wage, can conveniently feed, pay for rent and other utilities. His job is respected. etc etc
Why are you guys so stubborn as regards this minimum wage matterhuh The 70k is basic. The total is 110k. FG has started paying it ditto some states.
Drivers in my company have started earning 110k. I know that for sure.

Security persons in Nigeria live in their own houses and drive their own car with having to pay mortgages forever.

Not everybody stays in Lagos. Life where I am is calm and easy. I drive to office in 9-10 minutes and can do 100km/h along the way to tell you it's not close.

Samguine:
Again, how many people can afford rent in Nigeria? That having a car will send you into bankruptcy is a big lie. You pay car tax, insurance and other small bills which anyone that can buy a car should be able to afford. Again, if you do not have a car in this country, no problem. Buses are working and are always on time. Comfortable seats, amenities for the disabled (how many buses in Nigeria have amenities for the disabledhuh). For parking, you only pay parking fines when you park where you aren't supposed to park (another benefit of a working society. The law works). In Lagos, agbero will charge you for driving and charge you for parking. No agberos here. Train works. Air fares are cheap. I flew from London to Germany for just 28 pounds. Two hours pay. How many people can afford flight tickets within Nigeria, not to talk of outside Nigeria?
@boldedhuh What kind of question is thathuh
Everybody does not stay in Lagos. Yet where does agbero harass anyone for drivinghuh
People still travel by flight. The aviation industry is experiencing challenges as a result of forex and subsidy removal. It will be sorted.

Samguine:
You think fuel is expensive because you are looking at it with the Nigerian mindset. The average price for petrol is 140p/liter. That means that if I work for ONE HOUR in the UK, on the average, I should be able to afford at least 7 litres of fuel. How many hours does the average Nigerian driver have to work to afford that amount of fuel? Again, here, no fuel scarcity, no fuel queues. Here, you only buy fuel for your car. In Nigeria, you buy fuel for EVERYTHING.
Look, more people use bicycles in UK than cars. A far larger number even trek. These are facts I know.
Like I said earlier, I enjoy 24 hours power and don't even have a generator.
Also, stop looking at people's salary. Nigerians NEVER rely on their salary!!!

Samguine:
First, you need to understand how this society works. UK is a credit-based society. That means that YOU HAVE TO buy things on credit and pay back to build your credit score. Because of that, a security guard can afford to buy a house, a car, go on vacation etc. Of course, people are greedy and overdo it, does not mean it is bad. Imagine a random security man working for Chicken Republic has systems put in place to help him afford the good things of life. That is what a credit-based system does. Secondly, not all debts are bad. Even Dangote has debts. You do not have a solid financial brain if you cannot put debt into good use.
Credit-based my foot. Here, we buy things outright and have peace of mind.
Yet security guards still live in their own houses and buy cars. We are not vacation people. That's why people like you took vacation to japa level. On a good day, you should only be in the UK for vacation.

Samguine:
And that's okay. People are living well in Nigeria. People are broke in Nigeria. People are living well in the UK. People are broke in the UK too. However, we need to put things in the proper perspective.

The average security man in the UK:
- Can conveniently feed
- Can buy a brand new car with credit
- Can buy a house with credit
- Can afford to go on vacations in other countries. With a UK visa alone, you can visit at least about 7 European countries visa-free. Morocco is e-visa. Come here and see how people are visiting Schengen countries like say an water. How many "rich" Nigerians can afford that?
- Can buy high-quality fashion
- Has access to excellent infrastructure.
- NHS.
Cut this credit crap abeg!
Nobody regards anyone who buys anything on credit here.
You only have a real testimony if you purchased anything outright.

Samguine:
People keep complaining of bills and tax. However, the tax works. Good roads, good amenities, welfare programs for the poor, disabled and elderly, security is great, infrastructure is superb. I had kidney stones, I was rushed to the hospital. I got to do lab tests and CT Scan, all for free. Tell me why I won't happily pay my taxes? In Nigeria, you will be lucky to have a CT Scan machine in your hospital, despite the fact that you pay tax.
Hey! You guys pack drugs(paracetamol, septrin, flygyl etc) from here to abroad like crazy whenever you are in town.
Also, reverse medical tourism is now the order of the day as medicare is far cheaper here than abroad.
Healthcare here is fair. I just returned from a government hospital. I took 2 of my children to see a doctor. I spent less than 1k - card and test inclusive. The drug prescription I got cannot cost up to 2k.

Samguine:
I have lived in Nigeria (I was not poor) and currently living in the UK. I will pick the UK a billion times over.
You are stuck! And you are suffering from Stockholm's syndrome. cheesy

Let's go back to old min wage, 30k, how many employers were able to pay even till date

Basic salary is 70k. The full package is 110k. Nigerians NEVER depend on salary. Most of the people earning minimum wage live in their own houses and drive their cars.

I work in a major industry by God's grace. I cherish it far more than any 'Mayguard' job abroad. It's unfortunate how you guys have lost your sense of purpose in life - just living to survive and pay bills.

femi4:
You think £500 is useless like N50 000 in Nigeria. You can get used manual car in the UK for as low as £900. That should tell you that there are more people driving there and it could have been more if not for their rigorous process in obtaining driving license.
One month rent is nothing in Nigeria. You may buy the car but bills you will incur for having it thereafter will send you to bankruptcy. Imagine how much you will pay just to park the car.

femi4:
2. Fuel isn't only affordable, but it's not also available unlike what you have in Nigeria where generator n vehicles are competing for space at the filling station.
3. Power is affected, you can even control how/when you use it. You don't get crazy bills or get charged for darkness. If you free to choose between pay as you use or monthly charged based on your meter readings.
Dey play! Fuel is extremely expensive over there.
Not everybody stays in Lagos. Even then, power supply has improved. I don't even have a generator. My freezer is rock frozen. I stock cold stuffs for the month at least.

Despite being in Band A, I have capped my consumption at 15k per month. So where the crazy bills coming fromhuh

femi4:
4. Debt is relative. You can be in a prompt servicing debt that improves your credit score compared to urgent 2k debt with opay using your picture as obituary and sending threats to your contacts
Debt is debt! You are stuck!! You have been enslaved.

What allowances? How many people are receiving the minimum wage in Nigeria. Even corp members were not paid last month. Don't deceive yourself, he's doing better than an average Nigerian, fuel price isn't stable in Nigeria. Those with cars can't drive, those driving are driving on a bad road. No tap water, power is irregular and unaffordable.

He goes home with nothing less than £2000 after tax in a month and can conveniently save £500 each month. Not considering those doing 2 jobs in this analysis

Mind you, that's African fish imported into the UK. Their home grown food and fruits are cheaper.
Minimum wage announced is BASIC SALARY.

There is a payslip. And one of the components in the breakdown is basic salary.

Also, Nigerians almost NEVER rely on salary.

A filling station attendant can be living in his own house. Same goes for drivers, gatemen etc

How many people use cars abroad?

How affordable is fuel abroad?

How affordable is rent abroad?

How affordable is power abroad?

How debt-free are people abroad?

The 500 pounds savings you mentioned only has value in Nigeria

I enjoy 24hours power supply. My main roads are okay.

This post is in response to the thread below about the high cost of fish in Nigeria. You can find the thread here
https://www.nairaland.com/8225493/see-what-experience-market-woman/1#132221604

Here are some fishes i bought fot just 12 pounds. They are 8 in number. I bought it alongside grinded ogbonno. You can see the grounded ogbonno in the transparent pack that cost about 4 pounds.

So i ended up spending 16.17 pounds in this African shop i went to. I also attached the receipt.

Guess what? The 8 fishes, i was holding one when i took d pix.. i got for 12 pounds is just an hour wage rate. This is what i am paid in just one our of working.

While converting the prices to Naira might be expensive the actual reality is how much effort is put to achieve that earning putting time factor into consideration.
Congratulations bro.

But you are not doing better than the average 'mayguard' in Nigeria.

Also, the minimum wage of 70k is basic salary. Other allowances bring it up to 110k. @femi4 and co, take note.
