Obasanjo in mixed mood over son’s rumoured death

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo was depressed Thursday immediately he received rumoured news that his son, Gbenga, was part of the passengers that died on board the Akure bound Chattered Associated Airline that crashed in Lagos.
Obasanjo who clad in a white flowing Agbara with blue cap as a guest at a leadership training programme for young leaders held at Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Kuto, Abeokuta, received the news during a photo session with schools pupils who had come for the programme.

Vanguard who was at the event observed that the former president received many calls during the session while the expression on his face was an indication that something was wrong.
Obasanjo was seen shivering and shaking shortly after he received the rumoured  news, but comported himself and gently left the venue.
During the conversation with one of his callers, Obasanjo loudly said ‘which Gbenga , but, he is in Abuja’
Holding  the hands of one of his closest friends, Prof. Akin Mabogunje they went straight into a room within the Library complex where they spent almost one hour.
Reprieve however came to Obasanjo when he was alleged to have spoken to his son, Gbenga, with confirmation that he was hale and hearty.
When Vanguard visited his Abeokuta Hilltop mansion, security operatives at the entrance of the mansion were seen playing games which was an indication that nothing was wrong with the family and there was no sign of people moving in and out of the building.
Earlier, there had been a serious apprehension over Chief Obasanjo’s son’s involvement in the crash.
The news which first filtered through social media left many residents of Abeokuta depressed as many started mourning with Obasanjo’s family over the news that was later discover to be a false alarm

PoliticsRe: PDP Defeats APC In Jigawa Assembly By-election by Ganeath(m): 4:03pm On Sep 23, 2013
pheesayor: Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday announced Alhaji Abubakar Murtala of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winner of the State House of Assembly by-election in Ringim Constituency of Jigawa, held on Saturday.

The INEC Chief Returning Officer, Alhaji Umar Sani, said that the PDP candidate polled 22,431 to defeat his close rival of All Progressive Congress (APC) who scored 11,533 votes.

The re-run poll followed the death of the former Deputy Speaker of the state assembly, Alhaji Inuwa Udi in a road accident in August.

Sani said that a total of eight political parties participated in the by-election.
Reacting, a chieftain of the APC, Alhaji Farouq Aliyu, alleged irregularities in the election, saying APC had been robbed of its electoral victory.

Aliyu said the party had written a petition to INEC challenging the results of the by-election.
He alleged that election in some polling units were inconclusive because of the violence that erupted in those areas.
