EgunMogaji: I'm getting serious about doing my kitchen and I need intelligent guidance on how to price the work.
Is it priced per square feet or it's a free for all price scheme whereby an artisan can demand anything they feel like?
Thanks in advance. The cost/price of your kitchen is dependent on what you want in it. Spell out your specifications and then allow the experts give you a quote. when it comes to finishing to taste I don't see square meter coming to play cos prices/quality of materials differ while square meter is the same.. |

InvertedHammer: I noticed that some places do not plaster over their block works and the masonry looks beautiful. They use grovers in between the blocks to create a clean finish with no chalk overs.
Advantages: 1. It saves money on cement and materials for plastering. 2. It saves money on paints
And if done right looks exquisite. This is where building construction meets art. I don't think any "block count" mason will have time for it.
Check out the picture below: This is beautiful. where and how do we get this tools? |

chidexy: Good morning folks. Can our experts in the house, Chief Dr Hajji M and co help me take a look at this quote that I got for POP ceiling. The POP ceiling is only to be done on the upstairs.
First the dimensions 1st sitting room is 30m² 2nd sitting room is 25m² 2 sit out for the sitting rooms is 30m² The steps up till upstairs is 35m² Total area to be covered is 120m² His charge for workmanship is 1.5k per m² totaling 180k
MATERIALS 1) 42 bags of white cement @ 3.8k each = 160k 2) 40kg of sponge (fillers) @ 1.5k/kg = 60k 3) 1 big roll of binding wire = 9k 4) 6 packs of concrete nails @ 2.5k each = 15k 5) 1 roll of imperial soap = 1.5k 6) 5 litres of groundnut oil = 2,5k Total for material = 248k
GRAND TOTAL = 430k I must say you have a very good deal. Go for it. |

FastShipping: What materials/wood used for that wardrobe?
Are you now into wood work too because you have always been into tiling work? I salute you my Oga on top. You know we can't stand on one spot we have to do all we can to make ends meet. Yes I have always been known for Tiling and Iam still very much in it. Iam also into Woodworks . The material used for the wardrobe is laminated board (Mdf). They come in different designs and colors. There are also the Waterproof types (HDF) These we mostly use for Kitchen Cabinets or areas that water will be used. Best rgds Sir.

battleaxe: Are you asking for labour or materials?
For materials, you can estimate this yourself roughly.
1. Get the length, breadth and depth of your decking. 2. Based on your concrete mix ratio (e.g 1:2:4), calculate the volume of each required material. I think there's a factor to be applied as well. 3. Based on the volume of each material obtained above, calculate the number of bags or tippers of sand and granite required. 4. Remember to put in some significant contingency for losses/ shrinkage.
C'est Fini!
Get a caster with his own concrete mixer to come give an estimate. Thanks a lot. I really appreciate your advice. but I would appreciate it further if I can have a rough figure for both materials and labour. a local Mason gave me a quote but the figure sounds rather crazy. |
