It is best a layer of roughened plaster is done before, tiling . it also gets the wall surface to a resonably plum level .

How did you do it that the height of the gas cooker is about eight inches lower than the countertop? I thought countertop and cooker should be of the same height.

For examples; look at the pictures below compare to the ones you did. I love the wood you used though.
Comp sir.The thing is that the counter tops are concrete caste and the bricklayers made the mistake of making it so high .what you are seeing is concrete all that is wood are the top cupboard and carbinet doors .
Thanks for yours comments .

nice explanation.
so the marble and granite tiles falls under the ceramic tiles? or it isdifferent?
Marble and Granite are not in any way in the category of Ceramic Tiles.. They are natural materials cut and polished to suit individual purposes.

can u work in ogba?
what is the difference between porcelain, vetrified and ceramic tiles?
Good morning . Yes we can .
Ceramic tiles are tiles glazed with a different material other than it's mould and it can be used for both floor and wall .
Vitrified and Porcelain are close but they differ in the sense that vitrified comes in both glazed and unglazed while Porcelain is always unglazed. They are usually both used for flooring but can be used for wall cladding .

As i said ealier its a matter of choice .i don't see any advantage or disadvantage in tiling up to 6~7 ft moreover the average height of man is not up to 7ft so i don't see how splashes can mess up the upper portion of the wall .

Thank you.

Another quick question (excuse my ignorance). Is it now customary to tile the whole kitchen/bathroom?

In my young days and in some other parts of the world they tile 3/4 lenght (except in the shower) which is fully tiled to ceiling but I notice here that whole kitchens/bathrooms are tiled from ground to top.

Sir,on this issue i Will say the choice is entirely yours ..As far as iam concerned i don don't think there is any conventional style .

[quote author=befto post=40805331]I like that idea of being "indestructible" if one is unlucky to have some crazy tenants....

The choice of concrete /block casting for kitchen carbinets is great interms of durability and resistance to heat and other attacks .
The pic attached is of block /concrete with granite top.and as far as iam concerned its not badatall precision should be watched@. (the white spotare pop mess )

Good morning all,
enjoying the discussions so far
Please an amateur question:
- I know a 'special glue' is used to fix granite countertops on cabinets but how is granite countertops fixed on concrete slabs?
- I suspect cement but want to be really sure.
Thanks all
Yes you are right .You use a mixture of sand and cement to screed so as to have a plummed surface before the application of cement and water then the slab. .
