PoliticsAPC Defends Abia Governorship Primary. by Gboga(op): 6:56am On Jun 23
*APC Defends Abia Governorship Primary, Clarifies Nkechi Nwogu's Status*

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has defended the outcome of its governorship primary election, dismissing allegations of irregularities and insisting that the exercise was conducted in line with the party's constitution and electoral guidelines.

Speaking at a press briefing at the APC State Secretariat in Umuahia on Monday, the party's Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, described attempts to discredit the primary election as the handiwork of a few disgruntled individuals whose actions do not reflect the position of the party or the wishes of its members.

Aguoru said the governorship primary held on May 21, 2026, was peacefully conducted under the supervision of the party's duly constituted election committee.

According to him, Eric Opah emerged winner with 125,977 votes, while Chief Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh polled 5,905 votes.

He noted that although the National Working Committee of the APC is yet to formally ratify the result, the figures announced by the primary election committee remain the authentic outcome of the exercise.

The APC spokesman expressed surprise that some individuals were challenging the declared results despite what he described as a transparent process.

He recalled that Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu had voluntarily withdrawn from the race and formally communicated his decision to the party, leaving the contest between Opah and Ikoh.

Aguoru also defended Opah's membership credentials, stating that he has remained a bona fide member of the APC since joining the party in 2023 and has actively participated in the party's affairs at ward, local government and state levels.

To further underscore the legitimacy of the outcome, he cited results from Ikwuano Local Government Area, the home council of Chief Ikoh, where Opah reportedly secured 3,486 votes against Ikoh's 2,403 votes.

Explaining the delay in the formal release of the result by the party's national leadership, Aguoru said the process was linked to ongoing legal and administrative verification of documents submitted by aspirants and not to any dispute arising from the conduct of the primary election.

"The legal unit painstakingly scrutinised the credentials submitted by all aspirants because we are determined not to hand our opponents any opportunity to challenge victories that rightly belong to the APC," he said.

He further accused political opponents of sponsoring misinformation and attempts to create division within the party, insisting that the APC remains united and focused on winning the 2027 governorship election in the state.

Aguoru stressed that the APC remains committed to respecting the outcome of all duly conducted primary elections and would continue to uphold the principles of internal democracy.

He concluded by expressing confidence in the strength of the party, claiming that the APC has over 200,000 members across Abia State and remains fully prepared for the political contests ahead.

"No amount of intimidation, misinformation or sponsored agitation can fracture a party that is united and determined to win power in Abia State," he said.

APC Dismisses Ikonne’s Claim to Abia South Senatorial Ticket

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed as false and misleading claims by Prince Paul Ikonne that he has been awarded the party’s ticket for the Abia South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued by the State Chairman, Chijioke Chukwu, the party described the claim as baseless propaganda aimed at misleading party members and the public. It stressed that no such decision had been taken by the party.

The APC explained that its senatorial primary election for Abia South was duly conducted on May 18, 2026, across the 65 wards of the district in line with the party’s constitution and guidelines.

The process, it noted, was transparent and complied fully with laid-down procedures.

According to the results announced by the Chairman of the National Assembly Primary Election Committee, Erasmus Cishak, Hon. Erondu Uchenna Erondu (Jnr.) emerged winner with 15,982 votes. He defeated Nyerere Chinenye Anyim, who scored 4,022 votes; Hon. Dr. Blessing Nwagba with 4,556 votes; and Prince Paul Ikonne, who polled 4,322 votes.

The party reaffirmed that Erondu, having secured the highest number of votes, was duly declared winner and issued the official declaration of result in accordance with APC electoral guidelines.

It added that the outcome of the primary remains valid, lawful, and binding.
The APC further urged Ikonne and his supporters to refrain from spreading misinformation capable of causing confusion and disaffection within the party.

It called on members to unite and support the party’s duly elected candidate as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.

PoliticsAPC Faults Naming Of Umuahia Bus Terminal After Nnenna Otti by Gboga(op): 3:15pm On May 28
*APC Faults Naming of Umuahia Bus Terminal After Nnenna Otti*

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the decision by Governor Alex Otti to name the newly commissioned Umuahia Central Bus Terminal after Professor Nnenna Otti, describing the move as inappropriate and capable of undermining public confidence in the electoral process.

In a press statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, the party argued that Professor Otti, who served as the Returning Officer in the 2023 Abia governorship election, was merely carrying out a constitutional duty assigned to her by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for which she was duly appointed and compensated.

The APC expressed concern over what it described as the “unusual” recognition of an electoral official by a beneficiary of the election outcome she supervised.

The party questioned why similar honours had not been extended to other electoral officers across the country or by other state governors, if the gesture was purely based on service and integrity.

According to the statement, the decision raises questions about the neutrality expected of electoral umpires, adding that any form of reward or honour to a public official linked to the discharge of electoral duties could be interpreted as a conflict of interest or inducement.

The opposition party further called on Professor Otti to decline the honour in the interest of preserving public trust in the electoral system. It warned that failure to do so could deepen suspicions surrounding the credibility of the 2023 governorship election in the state.

The APC also indicated that it may petition the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the circumstances surrounding the development, including the relationship between the governor and the professor, as well as her role during the election.

The party noted that concerns had previously been raised by some political actors during the collation process of the 2023 election, alleging deviations from established procedures.

It further referenced allegations of close personal ties between the governor and Professor Otti, stating that such claims, whether proven or not, could further erode public confidence in the process.

The statement also alluded to past criticisms surrounding Professor Otti’s tenure at the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), noting that such controversies make her selection for public honour contentious.

The APC maintained that Abia State is home to numerous individuals who have made significant contributions to its development and are more deserving of recognition. It cited notable figures including Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and the late Sam Mbakwe, among others.

The party concluded by rejecting the naming of the bus terminal after Professor Otti, describing it as “provocative and divisive,” and urged Governor Otti to reconsider and reverse the decision in the interest of the state.

*Abia APC Assures Unsuccessful Aspirants of Inclusion, Promises Reconciliation Meeting.*

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has moved to calm concerns among aspirants who were unsuccessful in the party’s recently concluded primary elections, assuring them of recognition, inclusion, and adequate compensation in the coming weeks.

In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, the APC acknowledged the sacrifices made by all aspirants who participated in the primaries, noting that the process required significant financial commitment, time, and emotional investment.

The party expressed empathy with those who did not emerge victorious, recognizing the disappointment and challenges that often accompany such outcomes. It, however, emphasized that their contributions to the growth and democratic process of the party remain invaluable and will not go unnoticed.

According to the statement, the party leadership is already taking steps to engage the affected aspirants constructively.

It revealed plans to convene a meeting with them in Abuja in the near future, where discussions will focus on finding common ground and addressing their concerns in a way that strengthens party unity.

“The party is mindful of the difficult period some of our aspirants may be going through, having invested resources and energy into the primary process. We want to assure them that they will not be abandoned,” the statement noted.

The APC further urged the aspirants to remain steadfast and loyal despite any feelings of disappointment or setbacks, stressing that unity and collective commitment are crucial as the party prepares for future electoral contests.

Reiterating its appreciation, the party commended the aspirants for their resilience, dedication, and belief in its ideals. It assured them that their trust in the APC would ultimately be rewarded, encouraging them to continue to play active roles in advancing the party’s vision in Abia State and beyond.

The statement concluded with a strong message of reassurance, affirming that the APC remains a family committed to the welfare and political growth of all its members.
PoliticsAPC Challenges Governor Otti On 414 Constructed Roads by Gboga(op): 9:28am On May 27
The All Progressives Congress, APC, Abia chapter has rejected the claim by the Governor Alex Otti-led administration that it built 414 roads since coming to office, describing it as false, exaggerated, and deceptive.

In a statement on Wednesday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Chief Aguoru, the APC said while the Otti administration has rehabilitated some existing roads, often at inflated costs, it rejects the claim that 414 new roads have been built.

“After a thorough investigation, it is obvious these so-called 414 roads exist only on social media propaganda pages and in media briefings, not in the everyday reality of Abians who use the roads daily for business, work, and survival,” the statement read.

The party accused the Otti government of elevating propaganda and falsehood to state policy. “A government that cannot point to verifiable, groundbreaking infrastructure like those seen in neighbouring Imo, Anambra, and Enugu now seeks refuge in inflated figures and media manipulation,” it said.

APC challenged Governor Otti to publish the full list of the 414 roads for independent verification by Abians, including locations, contract sums, and contractors.

The party also said it is embarrassing that a government that has received close to ₦2 trillion from federal allocations and IGR in less than three years cannot point to a single iconic project to match such receipts.

“Beyond patching potholes, re-asphalting old roads, closing manholes, building one motor park, erecting a few bus shelters, and repainting the roofs of existing health centers and government facilities, what has this administration achieved that justifies endless self-glorification? What is Governor Otti celebrating when workers, pensioners, and Abians continue to suffer neglect and hardship?”

APC decried the poor pay for Abia workers, noting that Abia workers are among the least paid in Nigeria despite the state reportedly receiving over ₦30 billion monthly. It questioned how civil servants still earn as low as ₦23,000 while local security operatives earn ₦40,000 monthly.

The party also condemned the alleged spending of over ₦360 million quarterly on maintaining six decorative water fountains while pensioners remain unpaid, gratuities are outstanding, and the ₦70,000 minimum wage approved by the Federal Government has not been fully implemented.

“Governance is not about media optics, hiring skit makers for image laundering, staged commissioning ceremonies, or inflated statistics. Governance is about measurable impact on the lives of ordinary people,” APC said.

It added that under Otti, governance appears to be an exercise in public relations where perception matters more than performance.

“Let Governor Otti publish the complete details of the alleged 414 roads so Abians can judge for themselves whether this administration is delivering development or hawking propaganda. Abians demand transparency, empathy, good governance, and above all, honesty.

PoliticsMore Facts Emerge On Why Abia Ranked Low In Transparency Assessment — PLSI Offic by Gboga(op): 5:40pm On Apr 11
More Facts Emerge on Why Abia Ranked Low in Transparency Assessment — PLSI Official

More facts have emerged on why Abia State was ranked among the worst-performing states in transparency and accountable governance by the Paradigm Leadership Support Initiative (PLSI), with findings pointing to poor access to public records, weak compliance with accountability laws, and lack of official engagement.

Speaking in an interview, the organisation’s Communication Associate, Sunday Taiwo, said the state’s low rating was largely driven by the absence and inaccessibility of key government documents required for public scrutiny.

According to him, a major parameter used in the assessment was the availability of critical public documents, including the Citizens’ Accountability Report, budget performance reports, and other fiscal disclosures expected to keep citizens informed about government activities.

“One of the key things we looked at is the availability of public sector documents. In Abia State, many of these documents are either not available or not accessible to the public,” Taiwo said.

He noted that several of the documents reviewed were either missing or could not be found on official platforms, particularly online channels, thereby undermining transparency.

Taiwo also highlighted a gap between legal provisions and actual practice, explaining that although laws supporting transparency and financial accountability exist, their implementation remains largely ineffective.

“There are laws in place, but the issue is implementation. When those provisions are not practiced, accountability is weakened,” he added.

He further disclosed that efforts to obtain primary data from the Abia State Government proved unsuccessful, as questionnaires sent to relevant officials and invitations for validation meetings received no response.

“As part of our methodology, we engage state actors to validate findings before publication. However, in this case, there was no response, so we relied on secondary data and independent verification,” he said.

Taiwo explained that where information cannot be found through rigorous public searches or credible platforms, it is considered unavailable for the purpose of the assessment.

“If a document exists and is meant for the public, it should be accessible. If after thorough searches we cannot find it, then it is treated as unavailable,” he stated.

He emphasized that transparency goes beyond policy declarations, stressing that public disclosure, accessibility of information, and citizen engagement remain key indicators of accountable governance.

Abia was ranked alongside Plateau, Imo, and Rivers states, all cited for similar shortcomings in transparency practices.
Politics*abia Apc Assures President Tinubu Of Over 80% Votes In 2027 Dismisses Otti's Su by Gboga(op): 12:35pm On Mar 23
*ABIA APC ASSURES PRESIDENT TINUBU OF OVER 80% VOTES IN 2027 DISMISSES OTTI'S SUPPORT.*

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State says its attention has been drawn to claims by a member of the Labour Party alleging that Governor Alex Otti will work for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

A release signed by Publicity Secretary of APC, Abia State,Uche Aguoru, said While one might be tempted to welcome and even appreciate such a claim especially coming from a party that has consistently undermined President Tinubu and his party the APC, the party is not oblivious of the deceptive tendencies and unreliability that have come to define Gov. Otti's brand of politics and as such, APC refuse to be misled by what is clearly a calculated and self-serving narrative.

Accroding to the statement, the party accused Governor Otti and his party of openly rejecting the outcome of the 2023 presidential election and even refused to display the official portraits of President Tinubu in government offices and establishments.

It furthermore noted, that the Governor's supporters and close aides have continued to launch coordinated attacks against Mr. President and his policies on social media, with Credible intelligence strongly suggest that these actions are being sponsored and encouraged by Governor Otti's government.

The Abia APC said Governor Otti’s recent posture only reinforces the perception of deception, rather than openly and boldly identifying with President Tinubu, he has chosen to deploy proxies to communicate supposed support, While honest Governors like Charles Soludo of Anambra State, has clearly and publicly declared his support for President Tinubu.

Aguoru pointed out that Governor Otti has consistently denied President Tinubu due recognition for all the federal government projects he executed in Abia State and insisted that the sudden declaration of support is nothing more than a desperate and deceptive tactic aimed at political survival.

Accroding to him "It is clear that Governor Otti understands the reality on ground, that his chances of re-election are less than 30% even with all the social media sponsored deception, as the APC in Abia State has gained significant momentum and is poised to take over governance at all levels" Aguoru posited

Abia APC therefore advised President Tinubu to disregard such misleading overtures, as the party in the State possesses the structure, grassroots support, and political strength required to deliver no less than 80–90% of the votes for his re-election in 2027.

The party called on Governor Otti to focus on securing a viable political platform for his own re-election bid before making hollow promises to a president whose mandate and second-term prospects are firmly rooted in the support of Nigerians, maintaining that such claims are akin to a drowning man offering help to someone standing strong on a solid ground.

He therefore concluded that the APC in Abia State remains strong, united, and influential, with vibrant grassroots structures such as the Renewed Hope Partners, Renewed Hope Ambassadors, City Boys Movement, and Relax Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria, explaining that these groups have continued to take the message of the Renewed Hope Agenda to the grassroots, where it has been widely embraced by the people of Abia, mainitaining that Governor Otti lacks direction and cannot lead others.
PoliticsRefrain From Alleged Campaign Of Calumny Against Kalu, Focus On Governance, Abia by Gboga(op): 1:54pm On Mar 09
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has advised those hoping to bring down the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu to search for another occupation or be prepared to wait forever.

‎In a statement made available to newsmen on Monday by the party’s Publicity Secretary in Abia, Uche Aguoru, the party condemned what it described as a desperate and co-ordinated attempt by certain individuals and interests to undermine, tarnish and malign the image and reputation of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu.

‎It said even as politics naturally accommodates competition and differing strategies among actors, it is deeply troubling that the administration of Governor Alex Otti would allegedly resort to using taxpayers’ funds meant for the welfare and development of Abians to sponsor campaigns of calumny against the Deputy Speaker.

‎Abia APC said such actions appear to be driven by fear of Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu’s rising political stature and his growing acceptance across Abia State.

‎According to the statement, in recent weeks, the Alex Otti-led government has embarked on what can only be described as a wild goose chase, sponsoring media attacks and propaganda targeted at Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu.

‎It said the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as far back as May 23, 2023, issued a formal verification letter which clearly addressed and laid to rest the issues surrounding his NYSC records, affirming that there was no discrepancy or wrongdoing.

‎”These co-ordinated campaigns are clearly aimed at damaging the reputation of the Deputy Speaker, simply because certain political actors are apprehensive about the overwhelming support he enjoys and the likelihood of his victory, should he decide to contest the governorship of Abia State.

‎”We are also aware of recent meetings allegedly held in Abuja involving officials of the Abia State Government and a section of the media, where the sum of ₦50 million was reportedly distributed to some journalists to revive attacks on the Deputy Speaker using issues that had long been resolved by competent national authorities.

‎”These sensational allegations and orchestrated attacks are being championed by a politically stranded actor who currently lacks a viable political platform, having destroyed the party that once gave him relevance during the Obi wave. Now afraid of losing the governorship should Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu declare interest, such elements are desperately attempting to re-enter the APC by first trying to discredit the Deputy Speaker.

‎”Ironically, the APC in Abia State has grown remarkably strong and attractive, an achievement many once considered impossible but which has been made possible through the strategic leadership, commitment and political influence of Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu. Today, individuals who once dismissed the possibility of the APC winning elections in Abia are now lobbying from Abuja to join the party.

‎”True to his character, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu has remained calm, focused and undistracted by the antics of those unsettled by the rising popularity and acceptance of the APC in Abia State under his leadership.

‎”One thing remains certain: he whom God has lifted, no man can bring down. No amount of propaganda, sponsored columns, or hatchet journalism, even if funded with the state’s four-year allocation, can diminish the reputation of Benjamin Kalu or erode the love and goodwill he enjoys among the people of Abia State.

‎Abia APC called on Governor Alex Otti to concentrate on governance and ensure that public resources are judiciously utilised for the welfare and development of Abians, many of whom are currently grappling with severe economic hardship and unsatisfactory welfare policies.

‎The statement also advised the Labour Party government in Abia State to begin to put its house in order, emphasising that the APC is steadily positioning itself to take over governance and restore purposeful leadership to Government House, Umuahia.

APC REACTS TO ADC’S CLAIMS, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO ECONOMIC RECOVERY AND DEMOCRATIC STABILITY

Abia State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken note of the recent remarks credited to former Senate President, David Mark, and other leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) during their mobilisation event in Umuahia.

While we respect the right of every political party to assemble and express its views in a democratic society, we strongly reject the misleading narrative that the APC-led Federal Government lacks direction or has abandoned Nigerians to hardship.

Nigeria is navigating complex reforms under the bold leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. These necessary reforms are aimed at stabilising the economy, strengthening the naira, boosting local production, and creating long-term sustainability. These reforms, though challenging in the short term, are already laying foundations for durable growth.

It is important to remind Nigerians that economic transformation is not achieved through rhetoric at political rallies but through difficult, sometimes painful decisions that secure the nation’s future. The APC government has expanded social intervention programmes, increased revenue inflows to states, support for small and medium-scale enterprises, and prioritised infrastructure development to stimulate productivity and employment.

We also find it ironic that individuals who have occupied the highest levels of leadership for decades now attempt to distance themselves from the structural issues that accumulated over time.

On the issue of democratic fairness, the APC remains firmly committed to free, fair, and credible elections. Our party believes in competition based on ideas and performance, not unfounded allegations. Institutions responsible for elections and public finance operate independently within the bounds of the Constitution, and sweeping accusations of manipulation only weaken public confidence without evidence.

Regarding budget implementation and contractor payments, fiscal responsibility requires careful management of national resources, especially during reform periods. The APC administration continues to engage stakeholders to ensure transparency and accountability in public spending.

We encourage Nigerians to critically evaluate political statements, particularly as the 2026 general elections approach. Opposition parties are free to present themselves as alternatives, but they must do so with facts, viable policy frameworks, and a track record of credible governance and not alarmist claims.

The APC remains focused, united, and committed to delivering responsible leadership that secures prosperity, strengthens democracy, and builds a resilient Nigeria for present and future generations.

ABIA APC SUPPORTS CHIKA NWABUEZE ON FACT-BASED JOURNALISM, FROWNS AT OTTI’S TEMPERAMENT

An unfortunate altercation occurred yesterday during Governor Alex Otti’s media chat, where a journalist was verbally attacked for asking questions bordering on verifiable data. Our Governor must understand that democracy thrives on transparency, accountability anchored on credible data, and mutual respect between public office holders and the media.

Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) strongly frowns at Governor Alex Otti’s troubling conduct during the media engagement of yesterday, which raises deeper concerns about his temperament and commitment to accountability in governance.

Abia APC maintains that journalists serve as watchdogs of society and deserve respect in the discharge of their legitimate duties. They are not expected to be praise singers or take sides because they are trained professionals tasked with asking probing questions, seeking clarification on public expenditures, and demanding verifiable data to support government claims.

As members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm, journalists play a critical role in safeguarding democracy. When a governor reacts harshly to legitimate inquiries, it raises concerns about openness and respect for democratic principles. The Abia APC insists that public office holders must be prepared to defend their policies with facts rather than emotion.

Abia APC therefore urges Governor Otti to embrace fact-based governance, which requires more than media appearances and social media declarations. Claims must be backed with verifiable data. In a democracy, asking for proof of performance should never be interpreted as hostility but as civic responsibility.

Governor Otti must remember that he is now a democratic leader, not a bank executive. A calm and measured response under pressure reflects maturity and confidence. He should demonstrate that he is open to dissenting voices and committed to democratic ideals. Free journalism remains a pillar of good governance and must be respected and protected.

The Governor is expected to be open, patient, and accountable, and ready to answer critical questions about his policies and direction for the state.

Signed,
ABIA APC CAUCUS.

*Former Minority Leader Faults Orji Kalu’s Claim on Gov. Otti’s Emergence.*

The former Minority Leader of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, has faulted claims by former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu that he worked for the emergence of Governor Alex Otti in the 2023 general election against his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Chukwu described the statement as a confirmation of the internal sabotage the APC suffered during the 2023 elections, attributing the party’s misfortune to the actions of key figures, including Senator Kalu.

He urged the party leadership to be vigilant and guard against similar conduct ahead of the 2027 elections.

While acknowledging that Governor Otti has not done enough with the resources available to Abia State, the former lawmaker maintained that Senator Kalu’s actions were driven by personal political interests rather than the collective good of the APC.
Chukwu further stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has shown magnanimity to Abia State through strategic appointments and federal projects, noting that such gestures would be reciprocated with massive support in the 2027 elections.

He expressed confidence that the APC is well-positioned to take over the reins of power in Abia State, stressing that the party remains committed to liberating the state from what he described as poor governance.

Former Minority Leader Chijioke Chukwu Congratulates Ememanka, Raises Concerns Over Abia Governance Challenges

The former Minority Leader of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, has congratulated Sir Onyebuchi Ememanka on his appointment as Director General of the Abia State Strategic Communication Bureau.

In a congratulatory message personally signed by the former lawmaker, Chukwu expressed goodwill to Ememanka but noted that he does not envy the new role, considering the governance challenges he believes still persist under the current administration.

He pointed out what he described as existing shortcomings in Governor Alex Otti’s government and wondered how Ememanka would navigate the “anomalies” that continue to raise public concern.

While wishing him success in his new assignment, Chukwu urged Ememanka to remain steadfast in speaking truth to power, especially on issues of financial management and accountability—areas Ememanka had strongly advocated for while in the opposition.
PoliticsAbia State Government Seals Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Partners Office In Umuahia by Gboga(op): 1:32pm On Nov 25, 2025
The Abia State Government on Tuesday sealed the office of the Renewed Hope Partners in Umuahia, sparking political tension and raising questions about the motive behind the action.

According to insider information, a source within Government House, Umuahia who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed that the directive came from “above” as part of a calculated move to get back at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his refusal to visit Abia State to commission projects executed by the state government. Despite several invitations and efforts to lure the President to Abia, the source said the attempts were rebuffed, leading to growing resentment within the state government.

The source further alleged that the Governor having reportedly faced repeated frustration in his attempts to formally join the APC, has now chosen to align with forces opposed to President Tinubu’s 2027 reelection bid. Sealing the Renewed Hope Partners office, he claimed, is one of the strategies being deployed to undermine the President’s influence and restrict APC activities in Abia State ahead of the 2027 elections.
As an alibi, the Labour Party government cited non-payment of taxes as the reason for sealing the Renewed Hope Partners office despite the fact that no formal process was initiated, no notification or demand notice, was issued. the government without any prior official correspondence used the courts to effect the clampdown.

It is becoming worrisome ahead of the coming political season as this pattern has become a recurring strategy in Abia State to ensure the APC is unable to hold political events in public facilities unless in their homes.

Recently, Abia Hotels in Umuahia was sealed by the state government despite a subsisting 25-year lease agreement on the property, the reason being that the hotel premises were used as the venue for the Renewed Hope Partners rally organized by the APC. Observers point to this as further evidence of a deliberate attempt to stifle opposition activity on the state.

He also added that because of the threats by the APC to take over the state in 2027 even stricter measures may soon be taken against the APC, which has increasingly become the major opposition force to the Alex Otti-led administration.

Chief of Staff to Gov. Alex Otti of Abia State, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, says anyone banking on blackmail to de-market the Otti-led administration with intent to oust him in 2027 election, is embarking on futile political voyage.

Ajagba who spoke when he received in audience, the new leadership of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Abia State chapter, led by its Chairman, Deacon Steve Oko, said Abians had under Otti, tasted quality leadership, and could no longer be deceived with empty words.

The Chief of Staff mocked some members of the opposition who are making boastful remarks about 2027, saying that Abians will no longer fall for cheap propaganda while declaring that the era of sharing government money to people to win their favour was over in the state.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Correspondents Chapel, Deacon Steve Oko, said the visit was to enlighten him further on the crucial role of the media as partners in progress and explained that as the watchdog of society, Journalists are constitutionally and morally bound to hold leaders accountable for the people, a responsibility, he vowed to uphold.
