US Politicians Are Pressuring Ukraine To Lower Draft Age To 18

A Ukrainian official said Tuesday that American politicians are pressuring Ukraine to lower the minimum age of conscription from 25 to 18 to make more young men available for combat.

"If this information has surfaced, I can confirm it: American politicians from both parties are putting pressure on President Zelensky to explain why there is no mobilization of those aged 18 to 25 in Ukraine. The argument of our partners is that when the US fought in Vietnam, people were drafted from the age of 19," Serhiy Leshchenko, an advisor to President Volodymyr Zelensky’s chief of staff, wrote on Telegram.

Back in April, Zelensky signed a bill that lowered the minimum conscription age in Ukraine from 27 to 25. Leshchenko said that Zelensky is resisting the pressure to start conscripting 18-year-olds.

"That’s why the Americans are hinting that Western weapons alone are not enough and that mobilization from the age of 18 is necessary," Leshchenko pointed out.

President Zelensky did not give in and continues to persuade politicians from both parties to provide weapons without changing the draft age," the Ukrainian official added.

Right before Zelensky signed the bill lowering the draft age to 25, he received a visit from Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who called for younger Ukrainians to be sent to the frontlines.

"I would hope that those eligible to serve in the Ukrainian military would join. I can’t believe it’s at 27," Graham said. “You’re in a fight for your life, so you should be serving — not at 25 or 27. We need more people in the line."

If true, that means , Abia state pays the lowest salaries in the world.

At current FX rates, that means Abia pays the equivalent of about $12 monthly as minimum wage which falls far below the poverty threshold of less than living $1 a day and translate to 40 US cents.


This is worse than what the US federal Prisons pay prison inmates -5cents per hour.

Abia state workers are better off working as Prisoners for the US Department of Corrections.

And the only reason the US department of corrections even pays anything at all to its Prisoners is because of a US federal anti slavery law that was passed that guarranteed payment for any labour.

But that aside, if we are to hypothetically see Nigeria breakup to its existing constituent geopolitical zones, which of these new independent states can survive beyond five years without plunging into total chaos?

1. Arewa
Present day NW Nigeria will struggle to stand on its feet but will sooner or later find some political working ground. These are a people with centuries of indigenous self governance that spanned large swaths of northern Nigeria. Strong Leadership and governance and a collective society based on conservative Islam will usher in law and order. They may not be all prosperous as under Nigeria but they will surely exist long beyond our 5yr target.

2. Kanuri land

Just like Arewa above but there will be conflicts arising due to treatment of non Muslims and other minorities. But at the end they too will find their feet.

3. North Central

By far the most diverse ethnic and religious region , I don't see the NC being an independent nation of its own rather I see some parts being included into the NW while some existing states like Taraba and Benue being seperate. Benue will have the greatest headache owing to a lot of challenges we are witnessing already under Nigeria and I don't see them overcoming it as an independent nation rather things will get worse and Benue may end up being a UN administered territory reliant on international relief and aid from everything from food , medicine down to its own security.

4. SW
Oduduwa

Economically they will be better of. Politically it will be bedlam unless a rallying figure like Awo appears. Stability will then ensue and they will surely exceed the five year prediction.

5. SS

Niger Delta Republic.

The future of this nation will be dependent on the system of governance they choose for themselves . A parliamentary regional system will be the best option. That is, a loose federation with a weak central govt. The major challenge will be if all the proud nationalities in the SS agree to remain as one or go their seperate ways. They will surely go beyond the first 50ys if all comes together well from the point of formation as it will be the only true Republic formed from different nationalities agreeing to their own terms to live together as one.

6. SE

Biafra

Heard of Autonomous Kingdoms ? Well it's only in the SE you will find out what they are and what they mean. The factionalized nature of the Ibo man will always see to Ibo society fragmenting. It will be very difficult for whoever is in Enugu to rally everyone together as there will be several opposition from every corner on who rules from Enugu. The only system that will be adequate for this region will be a powerful centrist system (preferably a dictatorship ) or else it will breakup into tiny pieces before one year of its formation.
