Politics / Witches Endorse Atiku After Several Meetings On Obudu Mountain And Zuma Rock by gdonj1(m): 10:30pm On Feb 04, 2019
At a time when politicians are seeking endorsements from as many Nigerians as possible, a witch sect in the society has finally taken sides with Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as their choice candidate for the upcoming 2019 presidential election.
This sect called The Association of White Witches in Nigeria (AWWN) accorded support to the PDP presidential candidate after several meetings which they claimed to have had on Obudu mountain and Zuma rock.
According to them, they have certified that the 72-year-old man would win the election. Dr. Iboi Okhue, the spokesperson of the association announced this to Sunday Independent in a telephone conversation.
The spokesperson of AWWN said that he was sure the victory of Atiku was sealed by them after two meetings held in those mountainous regions.
His exact words were: "The victory of Atiku was sealed in two meetings held on the Obudu Mountain in Cross River State and the Zuma Rock in Abuja.”

Politics / US Lawmaker Worried Over ‘harassment’ Of Nigerian Opposition Leaders by gdonj1(m): 1:36am On Jan 19, 2019
Chris Smith, a member of the United States house of representatives says the reports of the harassment of opposition leaders are extremely concerning,
In a resolution to encourage peaceful elections, Smith appealed to stakeholders to be committed to peace.
He said the elections are critical to the future of the country and should therefor be free and fair.
“Reports of President Muhamadu Buhari’s apparent crackdown on non-violent protests and harassment of opposition leaders are extremely concerning, as well as the ongoing violence that has been perpetrated by extremists, particularly in the Middle Belt region,” he said.
“The violence must be stopped, along with any subversion of the electoral process. The Nigerian government must see to free and fair elections, which this resolution calls for.”
Karen Bassm, Steve Chabot who co-chairs the Nigeria caucus, Elliot Engel, chairman of the house committee on foreign affairs, are among those serving on the subcommittee on Africa.
“It is in the best interest of the United States to maintain a strong bilateral relationship with a politically stable, democratic, and economically sound Nigeria that can play a leadership role in the region and the continent more broadly,” Bass said in a statement.
“A credible, transparent and peaceful election this coming February would further consolidate democratic gains achieved over the last two decades. Nigerians are deeply committed to democracy and ensuring transparency in electoral preparations, which would build public confidence in the electoral process.
“This resolution sends the message that the people of the United States will continue to stand with the people of Nigeria in support of peace and democracy.”
For Engel, this legislation reaffirms US’ long- standing commitment to strengthening democracy in Nigeria.
“In 2015, Nigeria became another democratic role model for countries on the continent, showing that a credible electoral process could result in the peaceful transition of power from an incumbent to the opposition,” he said.
“Regardless of the outcome, my hope for the upcoming presidential, gubernatorial, and National Assembly elections is that Nigerian politicians, citizens, and the electoral commission will build on the successes of 2015 to further consolidate democracy in Nigeria.”
On his part, Chabot said there is still work to be done to ensure the elections are transparent, peaceful, and credible.
He said the resolution lays out the necessary steps to achieve these goals, and urged Nigeria to conduct elections free of violence.
On Thursday, the US had raised concern over the handling of security in the elections.

Politics / FG Asks Court To Remove Onnoghen As CJN, NJC Chairman by gdonj1(m): 1:22am On Jan 19, 2019
The Federal Government has filed a motion before the Code of Conduct Tribunal , asking for the removal of the Chief Justice of Nigeria , Justice Walter Onnoghen, be removed as the CJN and the chairman of the National Judicial Council .
According to documents obtained by
Saturday Punch, the motion was filed by Musa Ibrahim and Fatima Danjuma Ali on behalf of the Attorney - General of the Federation on Thursday.
The move , according to the government , is aimed at ensuring that Onnoghen is not a judge in his case and that the next in line of seniority, Justice Ibrahim Muhammad , becomes the acting CJN pending the determination of the substantive suit .
The plaintiff asked the court to compel President Muhammadu Buhari to name the next most senior judge as the acting CJN and chairman of the NJC .
The motion on notice was brought in pursuance of Section 6 ( 6) Paragraph 11 ( 1 ) of the Fifth Schedule , Part 1 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 ( as amended ) .
The Federal Government prayed the tribunal for an interlocutory order “ directing the defendant/respondent to step aside as the Chief Justice of Nigeria and chairman of the National Judicial Council over an allegation of contravening the provision of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act CAP C 15 Laws of the federation of Nigeria 2004 pending the determination of the case .
“ An interlocutory order of the honourable tribunal directing the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to take all necessary measures to swear in the most senior Justice of the Supreme Court as an acting Chief Justice and chairman of the National Judicial Council in order to prevent a vacuum in the judicial arm of government pending the determination of the case . ”
Born on December 31, 1953 at Doguwa – Giade , a local government area in Bauchi State , Justice Muhammad attended Ahmadu Bello University where he received a bachelor ’ s degree in Law in 1980 .
He later obtained a master ’ s degree and doctorate from the same university in 1984 and 1998 respectively .
The fresh move against Onnoghen came after the National Industrial Court , Abuja , had on Monday restrained the Chairman of the CCT , Danladi Umar , the AGF , the Code of Conduct Bureau and the police from removing Onnoghen.
This was pursuant to a motion ex -parte filed by a lawyer , Mr Peter Abang .

The former governor said before the current anti-graft campaign, Nigeria had more jobs and opportunities but the economy took a nosedive when the anti-corruption war started
Obi said, “It is not that you cannot fight corruption but you can fight it more aggressively while addressing economic issues. For example, in 2015, unemployment was 24 percent. Today, it is 40 per cent. In 2015, we attracted $21bn in Foreign Direct Investment but we attracted only $12bn last year. Our GDP was $500bn in 2015 while per capita was $2, 500 today it is under $1, 900.
“If you look at our stock market, we have lost over N2tn in one year. So, that is not a policy. You’re just fighting corruption, you are not creating jobs. You cannot shut down your shop and be chasing criminals.”

Politics / Many' Soldiers Killed, Injured As Boko Haram Invades Military Bases In Borno by gdonj1(m): 9:19pm On Dec 16, 2018
Although we engaged them, they overpowered us. They were well-trained terrorists, not those we are used to fighting. In fact, they handled anti-aircraft guns and RPGs better. We didn't have options, because we were running out of ammunition and there was no reinforcement. Some soldiers were killed and dozens fled to Damasak,” the soldier said.
aany soldiers were feared dead with dozens missing when suspected Boko Haram attacked military formations in the northern part of Borno State between Friday and Saturday night.

The insurgents struck Gudumbali in Guzamala town on Friday at about 5:30pm, riding on military vehicles mounted with anti-aircraft guns. According to a source, the insurgents shot sporadically, firing RPGs towards the military base.

"Many soldiers lost their lives; they were many,"  the source said.

"The Boko Haram terrorists came in large numbers, and although the troops initially stood their ground, they later they fled into bushes. We slept in the bush between Friday and Saturday morning. We got to Gubio yesterday. Many are still there, because they only came for soldiers, not civilians, except those of us working with the soldiers.”

A soldier, who preferred not to be named, gave an insight into the invasion, stating that the attackers were trained terrorists.

"Although we engaged them, they overpowered us," he said. "They were well-trained terrorists, not those we are used to fighting. In fact, they handled anti-aircraft guns and RPGs better. We didn't have options, because we were running out of ammunition and there was no reinforcement. Some soldiers were killed and dozens fled to Damasak."

The insurgents continued their attacks in Kukawa town and also invaded military and Police posts, sacking the security operatives.

An official said Kukawa town came under the siege of insurgents, and pleaded for the support of the Air Force, as many civilians are currently trapped in Kukawa town.

Although many of the civilians were not hurt, there was no presence of soldiers in Kukawa town as of Sunday afternoon.

Muhammad Kormi, a resident of Kukawa who arrived Maiduguri on Sunday, said the insurgents carted away many trucks of food items and burnt down the military base in Kukawa.

"As I am speaking to you, military personnel have withdrawn completely from Kukawa," Kormi told SaharaReporters.

"We don't have any protection for our people in Kukawa. Many residents, out of fear, are currently in Monguno town. They didn't attack civilians, but we can't trust them. I think they solely focused more on the military,

Politics / Re: 2019: Northern Leaders Disagree Over Buhari’s Re-election by gdonj1(m): 8:05am On Dec 09, 2018
Performance
The professor of agronomy explained that the position of his group was informed by the outcome of an enlarged meeting of 18 northern groups in March which reviewed his performance and its impact on the region’s economy and security.
“Apart from his poor performance to the dissatisfaction of those who made him President, Buhari has deliberately rebuffed all attempts by the Northern Elders Forum to meet with him and discuss issues pertaining to the region and Nigeria”, he said.
“This is the reason we meticulous screened over 13 persons from the Nnorth and finally picked four out of the large number and our choice has also been endorsed by leaders of Southern Nigeria including Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Afenifere and Middle Belt leaders.
“We believe that there is no need for us to be talking to Buhari again about what he needs since that will not change anything. We have moved and our votes will not be based on sentiment of tribe or religion but strictly on performance”.
The NEF leader said he was pained by the behaviour of the President, having taken the risk to be at the forefront of his election in 2015 on account of which he was called unprintable names by those in the Jonathan administration.
According to him, the North rejected former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 not because he was a southerner and a Christian but because he blatantly reneged on the agreement to complete former President Yar’Adua’s tenure by doing one term and handing over power to the North to do eight years as former President Olusegun Obasanjo did.
However, the decision by the NEF to dump Buhari in 2019 has not gone down well with some members of the NEF who openly disagreed with the leadership.

Politics / 2019: Northern Leaders Disagree Over Buhari’s Re-election by gdonj1(m): 7:57am On Dec 09, 2018
•President worsened poverty, we won’t support him – Ango Abdullahi
•You cannot stop him – Gen. Tarfa, Daura, others
By Soni Daniel, Northern Region Editor
Barely three months to next year’s elections, some northern leaders say they will not support President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election.
They, however, shied away from announcing their preferred presidential candidate in the elections, insisting that the candidate to support remained one of their own from the list of the 71 presidential hopeful cleared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to contest the 2019 elections.
The only other high profile candidate in the 2019 presidential election is Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Convener of the Northern Elders’ Forum (NEF), Professor Ango Abdullahi, spoke the mind of the northern leaders in Kaduna.
However, three key officials of NEF immediately distanced themselves from Abdullahi’s position, saying they were solidly behind Buhari and will do everything possible to get him re-elected next year.
The trio – Maj. Gen. Paul Tarfa, Capt. Basir Sodangi and Sani Daura – said in a statement that Buhari deserved re-election because of his excellent performance and the fact that replacing him would turn the hand of development backward.
Trump, Obama, Clinton Mourn Ex-president Bush
According to Abdullahi, a former Ahmadu Bello University Vice Chancellor, the Northern Elders arrived at the decision to dump Buhari for another northern presidential candidate because of his failure to fulfil the basic conditions they handed to him in 2015 when they rejected then – President Goodluck Jonathan and elected him.
“Two of the conditions we gave Buhari upon his assumption of office were that he should take concrete steps to address the abject poverty and underdevelopment in the North and he has woefully failed to marginally address any of them,” he said.
The NEF leader also accused the President of bringing strange elements into government, thereby adding no value to governance and “we are vindicated on this score because his wife, Aisha, has confirmed that this week”.
He went on: “Assuming that things are working in the North or in Nigeria as a whole, we would have taken a different position but everyone can see that things are not working under this government. Perhaps, as a prelude to where this government has taken this country, Buhari wasted six months before being able to set up his cabinet.
“And when he eventually formed the cabinet, he brought in persons who had not added any value to governance and his wife has vindicated us on this.
“As things stand today, we in the NEF do not believe that Nigeria’s cause will be helped by Buhari’s re-election in 2019. That is why we have decided to pick one of the other presidential candidates from the North for next year’s contest.
“It would be futile for anyone to blame anybody for the decision of the NEF against Buhari because his own wife has openly alluded to our position that some persons, who do not have the interest of Nigeria at heart, are running the Buhari administration without adding real value to the governance of Nigeria”.
Abdullahi, who served as former President Obasanjo’s Special Adviser on Food Security, pointed out that Buhari was the architect of his own misfortune, having repeatedly rebuffed all entreaties by northern leaders to meet with him and address the issues raised against him.

Politics / Timi Frank To Lai: Nigerians Will Elect Atiku As President Not Americans by gdonj1(m): 7:42pm On Nov 30, 2018
Frank made the assertion on Friday in Abuja, in a statement in response to comments credited to the Information and Culture Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, that the US should not grant the former Vice President visa to visit the country.
He, however, reminded the Minister, that the American government does not believe in the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari which has since been described as “lifeless” by President Donald Trump.
According to Frank, the PDP presidential candidate has become a nightmare and a sleepless tablet for the government of APC, hence the total loss of common senses by some of it officials.
Frank warned his former boss, Lai Mohammed and other APC’s apologists against heart attack when they later see Atiku Abubakar, being received on a red carpet very soon in the United States of America.
While challenging APC government to provide just one evidence of corruption perpetrated by Atiku Abubakar, Frank said the same failed government that said the Waziri Adamawa could not visit America is already jittery now that Atiku is poised to prove them wrong.
According to Frank, it was easier for Lai Mohammed to bring APC to power with lies and propaganda against President Goodluck Jonathan but it is now impossible to sustain the lies because of their obvious failures.

The simple advice for Mr. Mohammed’s close allies is to get him tested for probably the negative effects of banned substances.
“At this stage, it is too late to stop America from granting Atiku entry Visa because the country has confirmed that it has nothing against the Presidential candidate of the PDP.
“Instead of this clueless government to seek for help from the American government in fighting the resurgent Boko Haram and fully liberate the people of the North-east from the hands of insurgents, what is more important to Lai Mohammad and the APC’s government is the issuance of U.S. Visa to Atiku.
“The American government will not fall for propaganda from a lifeless government like that of APC and President Muhammadu Buhari in granting Visa to anybody because it is a place where rule of law is strictly adhered to.
