Please help me out here guys cos so depressed wen i saw the merit list, the change of course form where can i get it in the school, ??

Now the question
x² + (x² - 1)^1/2= 1
(x² - 1)^1/2 = 1 - x²
Squaring both sides and expanding we get
x² - 1 = x⁴ - 2x² + 1
Collecting like terms and simplifying we get
x⁴ - 3x² + 2 = 0
Now this is a polynomial of the 4th degree in even consecutive indices to solve this we divide with a quadrant,
so using the trial method lets take x² - 1
Dividing with this we get,
x² - 2 as the answer
therefore,
(x² - 1)(x² - 2)
In which case

x = +/-1 or the square root of 2

Check:
x² + (x² - 1) = 1
Substituting x = 2^1/2
(2^1/2)² + ({2^1/2}² - 1)^1/2
Gives,
2 +/- 1^1/2
which gives,
2 +/- 1
2-1=1
You can also check the other value yourself for confirmation
