I've been researching (gawd I'm bored) diesel generators and came across reviews of the Predator 4000/3500 generator. $699.00 or maybe $649.00 with their coupon. |
I don’t have any experience with larger diesel generators but I have used the honda inverter type on our houseboat vacations for several years and I’m impressed with them. They start first or second pull every time and are very efficient and quiet. |
0.8 is power factor. Here is the reason for why the power factor is always 0.8. Power factor is not corrected to 1 because the power factor is likely to change with changing load. With correction to 1, the power factor could become leading and that is often more difficult for the source to accommodate. It could cause the voltage to rise. Take a marine vessel example, the engine generator set may be designed for 0.8 power factor. If the engine is sized to produce a certain KW and the generator is designed to produce a KVA that is 20% more than that, there is not much to be gained by adjusting to anything higher than 0.8. |
Hahaha, funny. I just regnize one machine. The diesel generator. It lloks like the one i bought before, but mine is bigger. |
I think the diesel engine is more preferred, not only in Nigeria but all around the world. PRO: Diesels get great mileage. They typically deliver 25 to 30 percent better fuel economy than similarly performing gasoline engines. Diesels also can deliver as much or more fuel economy than traditional gasoline-electric hybrids, depending on the models involved and whatever rapidly developing automotive technology achieves. CON: Although diesel fuel used to be cheaper than gasoline, it now often costs the same amount or more. Diesel fuel is also used for commercial trucks, home and industrial generators, and heating oil, so as demand for diesel passenger vehicles grows, the price of diesel fuel is likely to continue to rise because of competition from those other users. Even if the price goes up, diesel fuel would have to be 25 to 30 percent more expensive than gas to erase the cost advantage of a diesel engine’s greater fuel efficiency. PRO: Diesel fuel is one of the most efficient and energy dense fuels available today. Because it contains more usable energy than gasoline, it delivers better fuel economy. CON: Although diesel fuel is considered more efficient because it converts heat into energy rather than sending the heat out the tailpipe as gas-powered vehicles do, it doesn’t result in flashy high-speed performance. In some ways, a gasoline-powered engine is like a racehorse — high-strung, fiery, and fast — whereas a diesel engine is more like a workhorse — slower, stronger, and more enduring. I have a 6k propane generator, lasts about 4 hours on a 20lb tank, but since propane is for ever I plan on getting a large tank installed and feeding my dryer, generator and stove from the one tank. I'm happy with mine. how ever it's important to remember that power from propane will cost you double the cost of power from diesel fuel as propane has a lot less "energy" when compared to diesel. |
I purchased a 13,750kw Propane Generator from Central Maine Diesel a few years ago. 20 HP Honda engine, Italian generator head. Paid about $2300 plus shipping via Paradise Freight which was a few hundred. I see the price is just a bit higher now... But the one I want most is Cummins which i saw from a website. Recently it blew a capacitor. Central Maine sent me 2 for the price of one even though it is out of warranty. $39 total for two. I looked at generators on island but a similar Honda at Quality electric was close to $6000 and it wasn't even a 13750kw. More like 8 or 9000kw if I remember right..... They have many generators at great prices but this is the one I settled for. Quiet, no smell, propane lasts forever........ |
The second one...It is super cute. |
