BRIEF HISTORY OF UKWE TAKUM PALACE

The UKWE TAKUM palace, also known As UKWE PALACE (or Gidan Sarki Takum by Hausa people) is a historic palace located in the KUTEB kingdom of KWARARAFA which is in the present-day Taraba State of Nigeria. Here are some interesting facts about the UKWE TAKUM palace:

CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE:
The palace is considered sacred and holds significant cultural importance to the KUTEB people and the Kuteb nation as a whole.

ANCIENT HISTORY:
The palace dates back centuries and is believed to have been built during the reign of the UKWE AHMADU GANKWE Who also was the one who build the Islamic worship center(Masalachi) which is now use as the Central Mosque for the Muslim in Takum.

ARCHITECTURAL STYLE
The palace showcases traditional KUTEB architecture, with intricate designs and carvings and Naturally facing the Sacred Mbarikam Historical Hill.

ARTIFACTS AND RELICS
The palace is home to numerous artifacts, relics, and historical objects, including ancient bronze and wooden sculptures.

BURIAL SECTION
The Palace constitute the grave of past great Kings that ruled over Takum and the Kuteb Nation, starting from
UKWE AHMADU Gankwe 1912-1926 who took over from Ukwe Ribom Ipop Gamina(1890-1912)

The Vice-Chancellor, Taraba State University, Jalingo (TSUJ) Digital Professor Sunday Paul Bako matriculated the newly admitted students into the various faculties of the University for the 2023/2024 Academic Session.

The Matriculation had in attendance the Vice-Chancellor, DVC administration, DVC Academic, Registrar and Second Class CHief, other Senior Management Staff, Deans of Various faculties, Head of Departments, Students' Parents/Guardians and Guests from far and near.

The Registrar Mr. Joseph U. Bibinu invited the Vice-Chancellor and declared the programme opened.

The Matriculating students numbering to the total of 5,471 across faculties and Departments were administered oath of allegiance by the Registrar. The students pledged their allegiance simultaneously, and Signed the oath form.
The Vice-Chancellor presented his Matriculation address after standing on the already established protocol, and welcomed all to the Matriculation ground which marked the 14th in the history of the University. He congratulated the fresh students saying that as they will be taking matriculation oaths, it should also be a reminder to them always that the University will not condone any form of indiscipline by the students.

The Vice - Chancellor stated out of over ten thousand students that applied for admission, only 5,471 were the fortunate to be admitted into the University, he however enjoined them to make judicious use of the opportunity as they are the privileged ones. He further stressed the need to be law abiding as the university is governed by rules and regulations.

The Professor reaffirmed his commitment despite the overwhelmed financial challenges he me on ground as a seasoned administrator, he has successfully set up some measures to curtail some of those challenges

TARABA STATE UNIVERSITY MATRICULATED OVER 5,000 NEWLY ADMITTED STUDENTS EARLIER TODAY ACROSS FACULTIES AND DEPARTMENT.

THE UKWE

The Ukwe is the Supreme Head of the Kutebland. In the proceeds of time as already ordain by KUTEB himself, this position is reserved for the Likam and Akente, which eventually appears that the value attached to seniority in Kuteb culture accounts for the retention of certain superiority by the Likam, and Akente the next most senior and neighbouring clan to Likam by being the source of the two royal families of Takum for the stool of Ukwe Takum. Even in modern Politics and Government, the seniority factor among the Kutebs still accounts for the need to consult the elders before final decisions are taken and acted upon.
