Am also having same ish on my Redmi 8, being using mine since Dec and have updated my phone till date, (even downloaded full roms sef). I have tried auto brightness, manual setting yet the same, me think this is a thing with Redmi 8 in particular.

Force restart your phone and monitor it. It would sort itself out.

First of all remove your phone from battery saver.

Force Restart your phone and monitor.

Note, force restart is different from reboot.

It is. I have compared both from 100%. Normal and Battery Saver. Battery Saver consumed more. But from 20% there were actual savings.

The steps are the same for all MIUI based phones. The assistance I expected you too seek is for a link to your Recovery ROM if you don't know how to get it. You can post a screenshot of the about page of your phone.
