Two things can be the cost of your complaint

1) you have to check the appliance in your house if you have any faulty electronics in the house
2) you should also check the wiring system of your building, and the Generator cable to the socket, this are the major cost of your complain

I intend buying a small capacity generator but I'm torn between these two generator brands: Sumec and Tec. My major concern is fuel consumption. Please advise.....................

Good day ma sorry for the delay I will advice you to go for SUMEC FIRMAN SPG1800 Reasons

1) it does not make noise
2) zero, level in fuel consumption
3) is 100/ Copper coil, it's portable,that you will love just change the engine oil every three weeks
