Yesterday, I was in transit on the Lagos to Ibadan train and I sat with a young man. He had MBA in the UK and he’s currently working in the finance sector in Lagos. Our conversation drifted to women. And he told me he’s divorced and he only had a son. I probed further. It happen that the woman cheated on him consistently without remorse. He had to do DNA for the boy child. I asked if that’s enough reason for him to leave his wife.

In the past, women cheat on our grandfathers..but the difference our fathers were patient and very understanding. They forgive, forgive and forget.

Today, men leave marriage because a woman cheat? What happens to asking her why she cheat and helping her navigate such phase? What happen to treating her better and watch if she stops cheating or not? What happens to meeting the other man and ask her to stop sleeping with ur wife? DOF is the date of filling for people in the USA to fill their adjustment of status and send their documents to USCIS. Benefits is they get EAD/AP (Employment authorization/Advance parol - this allow for them to work and travel outside the USA) before the FAD gets currents, whereas people outside the USA must wait for the FAD (final action date) to become current.

It is April 1 2023 now meaning they are attending to those with PD before April 1 2023. The PD is when your I-140 application was received and noted in the receipt notice. Those with PD of April 1 2023 and later are waiting for about 2 years now and the backlog keeps increasing.

The new policy change (read more) updated few days ago, reduced percentage in approval of EB2-NIW and Trump no difference in employment based policies (but hard-on on family based) may translate to greater movement of the VB in few years.

As someone in 🇺🇸 waiting for his priority date, let me answer your questions
1. The priority is as slow as it is in Nigeria now but the advantage you get when you are in USA is that you can fill for EAD/AP when your DOF is current even though FAD is not current (for reference the DOF is currently on 1 Aug 23 while FAD is on 1 Apr 23)

2. You don't need to go back to Nigeria, infant most EB green card doesn't require interview if you are in the state.

3. For EB2, they are currently at 1 Apr 23 and yes if you are in USA you will have to wait at least until your DOF is current. The reason why it's very slow is because there are many people that applied for Eb2 in 2022 and 2023 but I expect it to move faster during Trump administration because they rules for EB2 has become a lil bit stricter.

Overall, EB2&3, are now a slow process and they are only rewarding to anyone one who can be patient

Your priority date is not current but it may be by April/July. If you a can afford I advise look through migrating to other countries with less backlog for a postdoc or research post still within your proposed endeavor & then change consulate. Right now you are looking at 2-3 years from Nigeria; whereas if you’re in London, for example, you could move this year.

Still trying to understand how this thing work as I don’t even understand at all.

Let’s say you’re already in the US on a valid non-immigrant visa and you want to adjust your status from there, I have the following question to ask;

(1) Is the priority date still as slow as it’s in Nigeria? Do you get some sort of preference since u are already in their country? I’m trying to get the meaning of priority date here

(2) Even if you’re in the US, do you still have to go back to Nigeria to do an immigrant visa interview for your Green card when it’s your time?

(3) I saw something on their website: let’s say priority date for all other countries (except India and China) is 4th of December 2022, what does it means? Does this mean that this is the date they are currently and you still have to wait? Till when exactly? How does this thing work?
