Webmasters › These Are The Windows 10 Features Microsoft Released Based On User Feedback by georgemck(op): 12:59pm On Jan 30, 2020
Windows 10 is a feedback-driven operating system, or at least, this is what Microsoft claims, trying to encourage users enrolled in the Windows Insider program to help with the development of new features and bug fixing. The Insider program has grown at a super-fast pace since its debut in October 2014, and given the amount of feedback, it’s no surprise that some of the features currently bundled with Windows 10 are based on ideas submitted by testers. Microsoft published a summary of the features that have been added to Windows 10 based on feedback received from insiders, as the testing program is entering its fifth anniversary year.

The list includes major improvements like video editing in the Photos app, light and dark themes, and Night light, but also additional customization options such as the cursor and pointer size and colors. "Windows 10 feedback" While the improvements that Microsoft included in this list are without a doubt welcome, it’s also no secret that Windows 10 users are expecting even more. The wallpaper theme packs, for example, which Microsoft brags about and refers to as a feedback-driven feature, aren’t necessarily themes, but only wallpaper packs that include desktop backgrounds and nothing more. This means Microsoft has actually changed the theme concept as we knew it, so instead of more OS customizations, like colors and mouse pointers, what you get is a set of photos to be used as wallpapers.

Additionally, OneDrive Files On-Demand is as feature that originally debuted in Windows 8.1 and which Microsoft removed when it launched Windows 10. The OneDrive placeholders were then brought back, indeed based on user feedback, but it wasn’t necessarily a new feature. Microsoft Edge has also experienced lots of changes, and after debuting as production version of Project Spartan, it’s now running on the same engine as Google Chrome. The new Edge is offered as the default browser on Windows 10 and is also available on older versions of Windows and macOS.

Webmasters › May 2019 Update Dominates Windows 10 Ecosystem Ahead Of Version 2004 Launch by georgemck(op): 1:53am On Jan 30, 2020
Windows 10 May 2019 Update (version 1903) continues to be the number one version of the operating system worldwide, according to new data, as it’s running on 53.4% of all devices updated to Microsoft’s latest Windows. While Windows 10 version 1903 keeps leading the Windows 10 ecosystem, the adoption of Windows 10 November 2019 Update (version 1909) keeps improving as well, so it’s now holding a 15.2 percent share. On the other hand, Windows 10 October 2018 Update, or version 1809, still runs on 22% of all Windows 10 devices, according to AdDuplex data.

Windows 10 October 2018 Update was often referred to as Microsoft’s biggest Windows 10 flop, as this update was published in early October 2018 and pulled after only a few days due to a critical bug leading to the removal of user files stored in libraries. "Windows 10 version 2004 just around the corner" Despite being republished with this bug resolved, many users decided to delay the update to avoid any potential issues, so the adoption of the October 2018 Update has always lagged behind the one of older and newer releases.

For example, a significant number of users decided to stick with the April 2018 Update (version 1803), which is the predecessor to the October update, until a newer version was released, just to avoid the installation of the buggy update. Microsoft is currently giving the finishing touches to a new Windows 10 feature update due in the spring. According to people close to the matter, Windows 10 20H1, also called version 2004, was already finalized in December, and now Microsoft is only polishing the update ahead of the release to production devices. According to the company’s typical release schedule, this update is due in April or May, with insiders to receive the final build in March.
