[Austin Aneke’s treatise on A brief History of Impunity and Lawlessness by SSS aka DSS not only reeks mischief but exhibits all shades of ignorance or failure to acknowledge the role of the Service in safeguarding the Nation’s stability. Not many understand the role and relevance of the SSS in Nigeria and Austin Aneke is sure one of those who does not. Little wonder he displayed this ignorance in the piece he authored. At least, Aneka accurately stated that the SSS is organised, designed, programmed and weaponised to protect the State.

However, the supposition that the agency oppresses the people it has a constitutional role to protect is indicative of the fact that he suffers from the Dunning-Kruger syndrome. It is worthy to note that the mission of the DSS is and has remained the protection and defense of the Federal Republic of Nigeria against domestic threats while upholding and enforcing the criminal laws of Nigeria. In the course of discharging this role, the DSS has constantly adapted to various functions necessitated by mitigating the evolving security threats including terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria.

Unfortunately, Aneke’s understanding of lawlessness or impunity by the DSS is mostly attributed to operations conducted against his sponsors and those bankrolling him. Aneke and his likes are oblivious of the fact that democracy has indisputably provided veritable grounds for the rise of non-state actors, who under the guise of freedom fighters and CSOs, deploy subversive antics to disrupt and overthrow government. Some others, for pecuniary reasons engage in destructive activities with little consideration for its effects on national security.

Though the intentions of these persons and organizations may on surface level seem people-oriented and friendly, they underneath bear well thought-out orchestrations to destabilize the Nation. It is for this reason that State agents are trained and equipped to decipher these threats and emplace measures to curtail them. How else can Aneke explain several coordinated attacks launched against security agents and sensitive government facilities by ESN that almost plunged the South East into a state of anarchy? Can Aneke explain what would have become of the South East in the hands of "Nnamdi Kanu’s BIAFRA" if DSS does not exhibit professionalism in handling security challenges? The weight and responsibility to ensure stability and internal security of the country falls on the DSS who must enforce its constitutional role to tackle threats that destabilize collective peace of the Nation. These similar tactics are adopted by the CIA, FBI, MI5-, FSB in maintaining stability of the country.

Where was Aneke when the Agency’ tactical and strategic operations led to the arrest of top criminal elements and Boko Haram commanders including Kabiru Sokoto, Husseini Maitangaran, Khalid al-barnawi, Bello Danhajiya amongst others? Is Aneke aware that in February 2013, the DSS broke up a terrorist cell led by Iranian handlers that was gathering intelligence for future attacks on American and Isreali targets in the country. In its intelligence gathering efforts and prompt dissemination, records have shown that the DSS proactively shares proactive information on security threats with strategic partners both within and outside the country. For instance, publicly available information shows that the DSS shared prior intelligence on the 2011 bombing of an international facility in Abuja. The attack was said to be successful due to the failure by top officials of the Facility to implement suitable safeguards.

Other notable operational successes including the arrest of Omar Mohammed Ali Rezaq, the mastermind of the 1993 bombing of an EgyptAir plane in the US is credited to the Services past leadership. The arrest and subsequent deportation of six Pakistani proselyters by the DSS in Benue and another itinerant preacher in Taraba state are evidences of its efforts to mitigate extremist ideology and fundamentalism in the country. What would have become of the South West in the hands of the run-away fugitive Sunday Adeyemo (aka Igboho) if DSS were not proactive?

Despite these glaring successes recorded by the Agency, Aneke and his cohorts continue to subject the DSS in what appears more like programmed criticism. It is however not unexpected as the DSS continues to amplify efforts to maintain stability of the country thereby making it unfavorable for their destabilizing businesses to thrive.

For a discerning patriot to determine and suggest that the DSS is lawless (regardless of documented milestones) and must be demonized is the height of unpatriotism. For any citizen, to even visualise the scenes that preceded #EndSARS protest and further suggest a re-occurence to buttress an imaginary brutal nature of the DSS only gives us out as people who draw wages from destroying the Nigerian entity.

Curiously, Austin Aneke and his likes in the Diaspora are mostly responsible for disparaging the Nigerian government and its revered security institutions. Nigerians who live in Nigeria, who face the threats posed by imperialists, separatists and religious extremists are thankful to the DSS and other security agencies for their loyalty and sacrifices to country and citizens. As we pace towards a stable democracy and a system that runs on the rule of law, it is important for citizens to censor security agencies on the basis of fairness.

Top security personnel working on the self-acclaimed leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, have discovered the plot being put together by men of his Eastern Security Network (ESN) to have him transfered to Kuje prison from where they will launch attack to let him escape.

Nnamdi Kanu is currently being detained in the Department of State Service (DSS) detention facilities, even as he and his counsel are fighting tooth and nail to be transferred to Kuje prison, about 45 kilometers away from the main Abuja city.

The IPOB leader, in asking the court to transfer him to the prison, alleged ‘cruel’ treatment in the hands of DSS personnel at their detention facility in the agency’s Head Office in Abuja.

However, a top-ranking officer of one of the security agencies hinted: “We have uncovered the grand plan of a looming attack on Kuje Correctional Facility. This is sequel to Nnamdi Kanu’s plea to the Court to have him moved to the Kuje Prison from the detention facility of the DSS.”

According to the security operative, the plans of the IPOB fighters is to ensure they get Kanu out at whatever cost.

“We are aware of the motives of some of his supporters to intimidate and harass judicial and security officers to do their biddings through petitions, propaganda and blackmail so that he could be transferred to the prison which they could easily attack as they have done to many Police Stations and Correctional Facilities in the Southeast, in the last six months.”

The officer said that prominent individuals who are arrested and detained at the DSS facility are normally given superior treatment, compared to what they stand to get at Police cells.

The officer cited series of attacks on security personnel and their facilities in the South-East by IPOB and Eastern Security Network (ESN) where many lives of innocent citizens and properties were lost.

“For instance, in April this year, the police confirmed that IPOB/ESN militias were behind the attack on Imo Prison with sophisticated weapons such as General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), Sub-Machine Guns (SMGs), AK49 rifles, Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs), Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) after razing the state Police Headquarters with vehicles parked in the premises.

“Nnamdi Kanu even had the gut to celebrate the destruction when he emphasised via his verified Twitter account that no soul deserves to be locked up in Nigeria’s prison. Imagine him now saying he prefered the same prison facility

“His lousy, callous and inciting threats were some of the pieces of evidence that our foreign partners considered in justifying the need for his repatriation to face his trial in Nigeria after jumping bail…”

Justice Binta Nyako, who first granted him bail which he jumped, had revoked the bail and ordered his arrest anywhere in the world “which prompted the action we took for his return to Nigeria.

“Has any country come out to support him or condemn the action we have taken?” the officer asked.

The Igbo Peace Forum (IPF) has urged the Federal Government to press charges of mass murder against the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mr Nnamdi Kanu.

The group made the call on Sunday, in Abuja, at a solidarity rally to register their support for President Muhammadu Buhari and the security agencies for their accomplishments in recent security operations in the country.

The Group’s National Coordinator, Mr Emeka Okpara said Igbo citizens were concerned that certain individuals had taken up arms against constituted authority, leading to the loss of lives and property of several innocent citizens.

“It would be recalled that the leader of the proscribed IPOB, Kanu, who was standing trial on several charges, including treason, jumped bail, but was re-arrested recently.

“We all remember how one individual could order from abroad attacks on government formations, killing hundreds of innocent people. IPOB caused the death of hundreds of people in the southeast region.
“The only way government can console Nigerians is to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“Now, with the arrest of Kanu, appropriate charges of mass murder should be pressed immediately. It is the prosecution of these alleged criminals that would give credence to our sovereignty and restore the confidence of the masses,’’ Okpara said.

According to him, the activities of IPOB was giving innocent Igbos a bad name and endangering their livelihoods in other parts of the nation.

Okpara said the Department of State Security Service had, by these successes, lived up to their constitutional role of defending the nation and urged that all those arrested be brought to justice.

BBC journalist, Peter Nkanga (@nkanga_p), who reported how popular radio personality, Ahmed Isah, assaulted a criminal suspect, says his life has been “seriously under threat” since the documentary was published on Monday, May 17.
The documentary had placed the methods adopted by Isah, Brekete Family’s founder and host, famously known as Ordinary President, under scrutiny.
It showed a scene where the radio host and human rights advocate slapped Susan, a young woman who allegedly set the hair of her six-year-old niece on fire after accusing her of witchcraft. It also accused Isah of abandoning cases without explanation after promising to follow them to their logical conclusion.
Nkanga, in a statement shared with HumAngle on Sunday, says he has been facing cyberbullying and threats targeting him and his family since the report was released.
“My attack is not coming from the State, or Opposition, or some militant group. My attack is coming from the public mob that Ahmad Isah commands. I am talking about a multitude of everyday people including gatemen (mine in my residence is an avid follower of Ahmad), taxi/keke/okada drivers, market sellers, business owners, shop attendants, people from all walks of life and strata of society,” he wrote.

“I am talking of everyday people you meet anywhere and everywhere on the road, malls, parks, markets, church, offices, banks, etc, who are his fervent adherents. They have my image, they are threatening me on social media.”
He further alleged that his phone numbers were released to the public during the daily Brekete Family programmes aired on May 20 and 21.
“Ahmad is a mob leader. He allowed my numbers, on two different days, to be broadcast live for his adherents all over the world to attack me. It was a clear premeditated action with malicious intent. Ever since, these people have been calling, sending SMS/WhatsApp threats to me,” the journalist said.
“I have had to switch off my phone lines. I am afraid because Ahmad’s adherents have told me they know where I live, and I will die. My situation is a very dangerous one.”
Nkanga said he had gone into hiding and was forced to flee Abuja to safeguard himself.
“Please help me. I am putting relevant Nigerian security agencies, the media, civil society, the international community, and the Nigerian public on notice: Ahmad Isah has to know that if anything happens to me, my family, or any BBC crew, that he will be held responsible.”
HumAngle obtained recordings of some of the calls placed to Nkanga where “Brekete Family followers” threatened that he had “no hiding place” and would “be stoned to death”.
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), a global nonprofit that advocates for press freedom, has said it is concerned and is investigating the death threats received by Nkanga.
“Nigerian authorities should ensure Nkanga’s safety,” it appealed.
The BBC said in a statement that it isthat it is taking the threats seriously and will report them to the police.
“It is completely unacceptable that journalists should suffer abuse for doing their jobs,” it wrote.
“Prior to broadcasting the film, the BBC repeatedly reached out to Ahmed Isah offering a right of reply to questions regarding accusations from his critics but he declined. Since the BBC investigation has aired, Mr Isah has apologised for his assault on the woman in the film.”

The proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Thursday said the man arrested in Abia state is not an operative of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) as claimed by the Nigerian Army.
It described the claims as laughable, saying the man is too old to be recruited into the ESN and not the Second in Command to Ikonso.
In a statement issued by the Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the group said the arrest of innocent Biafrans and labelling them ESN operatives could not make the army overpower its gallant ESN operatives.
It explained that investigations revealed that the suspect had issues with his traditional ruler who gave his contact to the security agents alleging that he belonged to ESN.
The statement partly read, “The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), ably led by our great leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, read with utter amusement, media reports of claims by the Nigeria Army that it arrested Ikonso’s Second in Command in Aba.
“The said man is not an operative of ESN. Such a man is too old to be recruited into ESN let alone being Ikonso’s Second in Command.
“Our background check revealed that the said man had issues with his traditional ruler who gave his contact to the security agents alleging that he belongs to ESN. He is not our own.”

Following media reports that the self acclaimed leader of IPOB ,Nnamdi Kanu has given an order to the effect that every citizen in the South East should remain indoors on May 30, the SMF has taken a swipe at the order, insisting Kanu is a fugitive and coward whose heritage is in doubt.

The group in a press release on thursday signed by it’s national coordinator Mrs Rose Emeka said no Ibo son would threaten the peaceful existence of her people and take a step further to sabotage their economic livelihood .

“We are Ibos, our identity is business , we are industrious, our children are born with that trait, how then would one man sit somewhere out of the country and dish out threats and ultimatum to our corporate existence and economic survival?” Mrs Emeka queried.

” As mothers we are sometimes worried about the motive of Nnamdi Kanu, but it is important that we do not sit on the fence so as not to let the younger ones tow his ignoble paths”

The group said, it wondered why a man that so much believes in Biafra could not come back home to lead the agitations.

“You need to come to the South East and feel the misconceptions implanted by this man, he takes delight in discord, violence and disintegration , now he has moved a step further to even threaten our economic livelihood and education of our children.

“Who is Nnamdi Kanu and his children? Can he issue such statements in the country that is indulging him? This is sheer wickedness and absolute senselessness and must be resisted.

” We are calling on our children and Nigerians to disregard such calls, as they amount to nothing other than self glorification of a coward”

The group said it has confidence in the security agencies to maintain law and other in the south east region and urged people to go about their normal routine.

“We are losers if we submit to the shenanigans of this character, he is not our blood, no son of Ibo blood and heritage would take the path of self destruction and foist it on his own people” Mrs Emeka maintained

There was Jubilation in Enugu State on Wednesday after Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu, Ejike Mbaka, resurfaced after his whereabouts had caused confusion in the state.

When Mbaka returned in a vehicle a few minutes past 2 pm, his supporters were seen shouting ‘Father Mbaka, Oh! you are home!.”

The reverend father later came out of the vehicle to rejoice with his supporters.

There was a protest in Enugu over the whereabouts of Mbaka.
