PROFICIENCY IN SURVEYING
proficiency is not knowing how the surveying instrument works, or sitting of professional examinations, it's about how we make ourselves known, serve the people and how we display our profession, not just for our personal interest, but for generations to come.

what does it mean to become a professional surveyor?

how does the public recognize or regard us ? what can we do to ensure that surveying remains a trusted and respected profession, not all occupation is considered to be a profession that's why doctors, lawyers etc. are recognized as profession because their work requires large amount of knowledge that has a direct impact on the public or society and if we do it erroneously, it can lead to a grave danger and surveying checks all of those boxes,

however, our work directly affects property ownership, infrastructure, land development, and if we introduce error, people will loose their land, also entire project can be derailed, that's why proficiency in surveying is not about what we do, but about how we do it and how it affects the general public. the pitfall is that, sometimes, surveyors do not get the same recognition as other profession, it is because our work is not crucial? or surveying is just a common practice and anybody can be a surveyor? or because we allow ourselves to think that we are not professionals and we do not deserve the same level of respect as other professions.

trust from the general public is not just given, but it be earned and that starts with trusting ourselves, how we conduct ourselves in public, how we communicate with our client or prospects, how we hold ourselves responsible for blunders and oversights, that's what build public trust and that is the definition of being a professional.

professionalism is not just understanding how to do your part, but understanding your contribution to the public.

A survey plan was was done 2020, however the client cannot trace the registered copy the the bureau of lands.

what happened??

The client paid 150k for the survey at the time the survey was 500k.

the coordinate, beacon number and alphabets were all forged, they do not represent the land's actual data, so retrieving the documentation was a pitfall.
