Recently, I have been seriously considering moving
from windows to unix (i have used linux mint in the past, and serious wanting to try my hands on Unix). I did my research and fell in
love with the netbsd basically for portability and
scalability reasons, and some of the other projects it
has been used for plus the kind of research i need to make with it. The thing is, well, since the most locally
accessible means to the internet
is via a modem (mtn, airtel, etisalat, glo...) whereas installing the netbsd and any
other bsdes atfer initial install ,requires that you are
connected to the internet to update and install other
packages and of course to keep the whole system continually up-to-date.

Question1: How then do i get to install and use any of the
modem on the netbsd, since i intend installing it on a
notebook computer (HP, AMD Core, 64-bit processor
with a cpu time or speed of 3Ghz). As we all know the sofware and
drivers required to run the modem are binaries embedded within it and will only run when the
modem is inserted into the computer via a usb port.

Question2: what other type of modem(universal modem) do any of you guys known besides the popular ones, with open source drivers and sofware for running them.
Thank you.
