According to her, she had been paying ₦650,000 annually, but the landlord recently notified all tenants of a sharp increment and insisted that the new rate must take effect from the next rental payment.

The lady protested the hike, explaining that the increase was too steep and unaffordable for her at the moment. Unfortunately, her refusal led to the landlord serving her a quit notice, asking her to vacate the apartment.

Now displaced and under pressure, she is desperately seeking f¡nancial svpport from the public to secure a more affordable apartment elsewhere.

The emotional video has drawn mixed reactions online, with many sympathizing with her plight while others debate the broader issue of exorbitant rent increases across the country.

My thoughts on this: This situation is becoming all too common in Nigeria right now, especially in major cities where rent has skyrocketed due to inflation, high demand, and rising property costs. A sudden 100%+ increase is extreme and puts many working-class tenants in a very difficult position.

That said, landlords also face their own challenges, increasing maintenance costs and taxes. Still, compassion and reasonable negotiation should play a role.

Serving an immediate quit notice without any grace period or middle ground feels h4rsh, especially for a tenant who was already paying a significant amount.

A Federal High Court in Abuja just sentenced former Power Minister Saleh Mamman to 75 years in prison for laundering ₦33.8B [$24.7M] meant for the Mambilla and Zungeru hydro projects.
