Divineability: Let me lend a voice to this discourse. The 100% or so wage increase is actually a ruse and deception. The category of workers that will benefit that 100 % is infinitesimally small, if there is at all. By the government's consequential adjustment magic, most junior workers will get less than 50%, most middle workers will get less than 30% raise, while most senior workers will get less than 20%. When you juxtapose that with the astronomical increase in goods, food, transport, services, and other parameters of cost living, workers' purchasing power is actually nosediving, and far from increasing. He who wears the shoe knows where it pinches, I challenge anyone to do a finding on workers' living condition; it is worse than pathetic. In fact, I am doing this typing a heavy heart. So, no one should think the wage thing will positively impact the economy, market, business, or company bottomline. ositadima1: Let's be discussing with understanding. If the minimum wage was ₦30,000 and is now ₦70,000, consider how many federal and state government workers there are in Nigeria. Multiply those numbers and you'll see where these figures are coming from.
Now, everyone is talking about minimum wage, but do you realize some people's salaries will increase from ₦10 million to ₦14 million per year, while others will move from ₦4 million to ₦6 million, depending on their level?
I don't understand the arguments you and the other person are making. Even if they only add ₦1,000 to your salary, your purchasing power is now higher than before - at least you can afford an additional bottle of Hero beer. Mr. Osita, I expect you to understand that the increase in salaries and wages (which most times happens once a year)is nothing compared to how much the prices of goods and services have increased. Heck what you bought for 1 naira today, has more than doubled in a month such that most have resort to buying less quantity for same price compared to what they could afford before. While some others can't even afford even half of what they're used to because despite the so called "increase" in salaries, but in real terms have lesser purchasing power. Same goes for those that their "4m" salary increased to "6m". Their tastes don't even have to change for them to realize that they can no longer easily afford what they're used to. |

designking: You are focusing on the worker buying lesser items even with over 100% increase in their Salaries. What I am looking at is companies getting more cash volume from from sales. The additional ₦10trillion - ₦15trillion will end up in banks and also flow to companies as payment for goods and services, won't that have a positive outlook for stock prices? The bolded is funny sha... "...more cash volume from sales..." because "sales" manufacture themselves ba?? No be people wey dey go buy "lesser items" sales go come from? Abi na aliens ... Abeg where you from the manufacture 10 and 15 trillion?? Na so e easy? we are talking people having lesser purchasing power and you're talking "more sales"?? Abi na me no understand economics again??😔 😔 😔 As per the backyard school wey I go |

designking: Yes for sure. Somebody earning ₦35,000 in September and his salary increased to ₦75,000 in October should be able to buy more food items.
He simply have more funds and higher purchasing power. And food prices are being held constant by Amadioha right ? Price of a bag of rice 3 weeks ago was 85k, today it's 105k. When minimum wage was 19,800 bag of rice was 6k hope you know? Who's better off in this case? The person earning 19,800 when rice was 6k per bag or the person earning 75k when a bag of rice is 105k |

designking: At the basic level, the current minimum wage increase will mean more buying power for workers across the nation. This will increase the turnover of most FMCG and the banks.
The new wage increase means an additional ₦4trillion from the FG, another ₦5trillion from state government and ₦10trillion from the private sector.
This is a lot of money entering the economy is there an actual increase in buying power in real term? Your guess is as good as mine |

Agbalowomeri: Omo learning and experiencing are two different things o. In this bull period, you will get away with so many jagajaga moves. When serious school fees hit you, you go shout I am a chosen😂
A bull market is like gambling and winning 80% of the time. Your adrenaline go pump to all time high. You would think it's your brilliance that's winning you streaks. Let's enjoy it while it lasts though.
There is an anomaly in the Nigerian market mainly caused by the banks. Inflation and high interest rates are supposed to bring the market down. However, our banks appear to be round-trip ping treasury bills and Forex. As long as the rates are high, maybe they can maintain this level but some are already showing weakness. I suspect that when the earning realities set in, banks will lead the bear, hopefully from Q1 next year.
Before then sha, I am expecting a violent Xmas bull to cap the bull. If it happens, to your tent O' Israel😂 ... God will save me when the bears come... Hopefully e no go catch me . To be candid, I'm not used to seeing banking stocks trading this high. As at when I started, UBA was 6.80, GTB and Zenith, 15 & 17 or so while Access was like 9 naira, FBN 10.10, Fidelity 4naira... So when the bull came, and everything started flying up... Fear catch me to buy o... Like what if it crashes for my head. So I can say I caught a glimpse of the bear (although the end of it) but was still observing the market as at then. As price no gree come down, I kuku jumped in... |

jonnysessy: Sorry to ask, but where do you take this your loot to ? I thought Banking stocks are the engine room of the market. In fact, I see Banking stocks rising higher after post- recapitalization. My little opinion though. Cowrywise investment portfolio(it's a fixed income mutual fund product). As at today I think the rate I'm getting is 21.99% per annum. |

ghm: Big businesses are good and the world needs the entrepreneurs. However, we need good/great entrepreneurs and not cowboys. Coyboys can run their private enterprises and choose to report whenever they like or not to report at all, it is private. If you list your company and you take money from the public, you must abide by the regulations in the best way possible.
What the world needs are people who have regards for established standards and order.
Reporting falls in the purvue of the CFO, if the CEO cannot get his CFO to do just that, then he should not be the CEO except he is the one stopping the CFO. This!! |
