Two Nigerian men have been arrested by the Cambodian authorities for allegedly smuggling one kilo of cocaine into Cambodia.

Okoro Chukwuka Boniface, 28, and Obiora Dozie Frank, 33, were caught by anti-drug police officers on Thursday in Phnom Penh after they imported the illicit drug from Colombia.

The suspects hid the drug in a box of fake jewelry and sent it to Cambodia via DHL shipping company. Some 189 packs of cocaine, totally weighing 1 kilogram were confiscated from the two suspects.

Cambodia has no death sentence, under its law, but a person who traffics more than 80 grams of drug will face life imprisonment.

The Nigerian army has made some serious progress in their fight against insurgency as they identify a new Boko Haram base.

The Nigerian Army revealed on Sunday that it will soon launch an attack on a remote Island in Lake Chad where Boko Haram fighters now use as their new operational base.

According to Premium Times, this was disclosed by the Acting General Officer commanding, GOC 8 Task Force Division, Stevenson Olabanji, when he visited troops of the 118 Task Force Battalion under his division at their frontline location in Gudumbali village of Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State.

A statement issued by the spokesman of the Task Force Division, Timothy Antigha, quoted the GOC issuing motivational orders to the troops.

Mr. Olabanji, a brigadier general, asked the soldiers to always make sure their weapons are serviceable as the strike order on the secret Boko Haram location could be given at any time.

He also said the awaited operation might be the final one that would bring about the end of Boko Haram insurgency.

Also, Mr. Antigha, a colonel and deputy director, Army Public Relations, said the final phase of the onslaught on the terrorists was evident.

The statement quoted the GOC as saying, “The tempo of ongoing clearance operations will be increased, so be prepared. You may be ordered at any time to clear the remnants of Boko Haram elements in the identified locations.”

The Commanding Officer, 118 Task Force Battalion, O.P. Oyekoke, had earlier outlined the tasks of his battalion and assured the GOC of the readiness of his officers and soldiers to discharge their duties in accordance with extant Nigerian Army regulations.

Mr. Olabanji was accompanied on the visit by the Commander 7 Brigade, Olayinka Soyele, a brigadier general, and Principal Staff Officers of the Division.

Boko Haram insurgents, who are seeking to establish an Islamic state in the North-east region, have suffered massive loss of territory in the hands of invigorated Nigerian troops. However, the insurgents still carry out serial suicide attacks on soft targets in the region.

The Sultan of Sokoto has played down reports that the current administration is making surreptitious plans to islamize Nigeria following the alleged scrapping of C.R.K.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Dr. Muhammad Abubakar, on Friday, rejected suggestions that there were plans to Islamise the country.

He said Muslims had been canvassing to make Islamic Religious Knowledge a compulsory subject in schools.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Abubakar spoke at a national symposium and launching of 2025 Vision by Da’awah Coordination Council of Nigeria.

The Sultan said, “When Umar Yar’Adua was President, Christians and Muslims leaders wrote, asking him to make Islamic and Christian Religious Knowledge core and compulsory subjects in schools.

“When Goodluck Jonathan took over, we presented a paper making the same demand, which was approved, but the then minister of education refused to implement it for reasons best known to him.

“So, I wonder why a controversy suddenly surfaced over alleged attempts by Muslims to force Islam on Christians by compelling students to learn Islamic religion in schools,” he said.

He urged the DCCN to propagate Islam to non-Muslims in a non-combative manner.

“Tell people what Islam is; tell them why they should be Muslims and what difference it could make to their lives,” he stated.

The Sultan also said the recent crisis in Mambilla Plateau, Taraba State was not targeted at any tribe.

“The crisis was not planned by individuals or groups to eliminate any tribe; as an ex-military officer, I can only believe that the crisis was planned when I see a document to confirm that,” he said.

He said he had met with some leaders in Taraba and cautioned them against playing politics with the lives of the people.
“As leaders, we must study situations during any crisis before commenting. We must avoid comments that will worsen already bad situations,” he said.

He urged government to strive to bring culprits of the Mambilla violence to book, and warned against derogatory terms like “Islamic fundamentalists or extremists, Fulani attackers, Berom or Mambilla terrorists.”

A Chief Magistrate's Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, has sentenced one Itopa Peter Adogun to 10 months' imprisonment with an option of N10,000 fine for fraudulently practicing as lawyer.

The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate I.O. Olawoyin, found Adogun guilty of the two-count charge of impersonation and wearing of wig and gown contrary to sections 179 and 133 of the Penal Code respectively.

Prior to his arrest, Adogun, who practiced law in Ilorin for 10 years as 'Barrister I. T. David', had allegedly won cases in various courts.

"Mr Adogun has been practicing as lawyer in Ilorin and its environs since 2007 and was arrested while defending a case before an Area Court in Adewole area, Ilorin, following a petition by the Ilorin branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA)," the charge sheet said.

Some of the items found on him at the point of arrest included complete legal practitioner's robe, legal books, complimentary cards, copies of legal proceedings filed in several courts and other incriminating items related to his fraudulent legal practice.

It would be recalled that the convict had earlier been paraded by the Kwara State Police Command for certificate and identity theft.

The police said, "The convict stole the credentials of one Inufin David Taiwo, an Abuja-based lawyer, under the guise of helping him to secure a job in an oil company, only to come to Ilorin and start practicing as a lawyer with the photocopy of the said credentials.

According to the police, the owner of the documents, said he had known Adogun as client in an office where did his one year mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC).
