Some team of expatriates are coming over to Lagos immediately after the covid-19 lockdown. they need 6 sound SUV from 2009 upward that will convey them in and around Lagos all through their stay, they will be in charge of fueling, but the servicing and car maintenance is left with the car owner.

The driver should be provided by the car owner or the car owner can decide to drive the vehicle himself/herself.

OP, I wouldn't know but I'm so sure that either you sent someone that had interest in your purchase to check the duty documents for you and the person came back with another story, so that you could make the purchase and he/she would get the commission or you just decided to make the purchase without checks....... Customs will never make that mistake because they would have asked for the last six digits of chassis and once it didn't tally with the one in the server, they would've told you asap......

That aside and back to the issue of you getting legit docs.... THIS IS A VERY THORNY ISSUE.... There are so many grey areas and I wouldn't want to step on toes because at the end, there are some of us that meet in the actual world and I don't involve myself in issues that can hurt what I do for a living..... The Nigerian system isn't entirely foolproof but customs are getting wiser by the minute because they've informants gleaning info from online platforms and also by moving around agents and importers at the ports and land borders.... If anyone tells you that you can get legit docs for the car..... I wouldn't argue but JUST MAKE SURE IT HAS A MANIFEST AND IT HAS BEEN PROPERLY EXITED WITH A INSPECTION ACT.......... Most of the people that will promise to help out will just make bank payments and leave you to bear the brunt of moving around papers that weren't released by customs and that is a FACT..... The cost of getting a legit duty document is so expensive that you might find yourself paying N750,000 for a 2008 Camry that should ordinarily have paid N550,000 if it came in through the ports legitimately......

Just be cautious cos work no dey too go again and guys are seriously hungry....

A letter written directly to the C.G of customs can solve your issue but be ready to pay way more than you bargained for.... .... Thanks.....

I actually sent a trusted friend to confirm the customs duties before buying the car. the seller game him another 2010 camry customs duty paper work, and thats what he took to the customs office which was confirmed okay. next day i drove over and pick up the car, he then gave me the fake customs paper and return the one my friend went to confirm to the owner which is someone else. hence he outsmarted me in a cunny way.

the penalty for no duty on a vehicle is more severe than half payment : outright seizure.... that is the law.... those other guys talking Jack about festac, ikeja, Ivory Coast etc... na only dem know as dem deytake do am but I'm sure it's a backyard package which can go south fast.

Could you clarify the following?

- There's a moratorium on vehicle imports into Nigeria across the land borders.

- Importers still smuggle these vehicles into the country, pay "genuine" duty and somehow come up with "genuine" customs documents for them.

My question is simple, really.

In the import documents presented to the NCS in the duty payment and clearing process, what port of entry would be listed?

Tin Can? Apapa?

If the answer is either of the above, how would the importer come up with documentation showing that the vehicle was imported via those ports?

Where would the Ship bill of lading come from? Vessel name? Voyage number? Port of loading?

Or would the import documents indicate that the vehicle entered via the land borders?
