If you succeeded in injecting with XSS, then users data isn't safe.

^^^In addition to what the poster above me said, you still need to learn RAW JAVAScript whether you like it or not. You cannot truly be a javaScript expert if you mastered jQuery without mastering regular javaScript.

There was a javaScript textbox I read a long time ago like 15years+, long lost now.
After introducing a person to javaScript, it then has a whole section on "javaScript as a language", this covers the nitty gritty of javaScript, before it now talks about "javaScript as a script language for the web".
It is for this reason that I learnt the principles of using javaScript to build viruses, automate some windows tasks i.e. running javaScript outside the browser environment etc

javascript is a scripting language, while jquery is a javascript framework.
in other words, jquery is like a shortcut to javascript codes.

1. The like button is active while not logged in

4. I don't see the use of the quote tags while quoting, why can't i just quote without those tags.
5.The captcha while registering is very poor. It seems like it's just a bolded red 4-digit number with a strike through e.g 7853. I could even copy and paste it. with that, i could get lots of bots registering
6. I don't need to submit the form while registering before i see that the passwords are different.
7.No form of verification/validation while registering. I created an account and use i@imail.com which doesn't exist and it went through, and guess what, i created another account using the same email and different username. Seriously
8. I can use 1 character for my password.
Whoops, lemme stop here. Although these are minimalist issues, i believe that if gdevit must be world class they have to be resolved.
PS :delete the accounts named lompa and lompo. They were used for testing purposes(they both use i@imail.com)

I have resolved the issue. I downloaded a new sql server 2016 then I changed the instance name on VS to blank that did the trick.

why is your business website footer having "company name".. did u code the template yourself?

Am new to web development, I recently installed visual studio 2010 while building my first website I try adding a database (visual basic) I keep getting this error.
I clicked on solution explorer, right click on App_Data, add new item, clicked on visual basic and sql server database. When I clicked on add. I get this error.
The error says "A network related or instance related specific error occurred while establishing a connection to sql server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and the sql server is configured to allowing remote connection. (Provider sql network interface : error 26 error locating server instance specified)"

some apps like Skype do share ports with servers like mysql servers. try ensure its not having port conflict.

nothing is impossible. I learnt all those in a year or less. but before then, I had knowledge of c an c++ only. I fell in love with programming while in 300level studying mathematics. c++ was our mth319. that was two years ago. during my final year, I merged studies with Web Development Cos of my burning desire to code. I learnt html and css from w3schools and on getting to javascript I felt it was impossible to learn this on my own, talk more of in a year. but then, i was fortunate to be learning from a site with try it urself editor. I played around with the codes while learning. headed to php and did several small projects like a login and registration site, comment system, etc
. while learning php, I read about dynamic websites and did some Ajax with javascript. then dived into WordPress theme making. it took me a while to learn jquery Cos I felt comfortable with javascript. but then, I think I prefer jquery now. and that's how u continue to grow in knowledge even though u have no one to teach u, just be sure to spend money on Internet subscriptions Cos the wwweb is a knowledge bank. and in whatever u do, apply wisdom. Programming can be a gap between u and ur loved ones if u become an addict. and it can make u tired of life at times especially when what u dunno is more than what u know.

Jquery just abstracts the whole process. If you check it's source code you will find its pretty much the same thing.

One benefit of Jquery is the for solving any cross browser headache e.g getElementsByClassName is not fully supported, same with querySelectorAll.
I guess it's necessary evil especially when it comes to front end development.

True... another example is the addEventListener and attachEvent methods. Jquery simplifies them all.

Depends on your definition of dumb. Did I hear you say python is not dumb, I freaking hate the language. Now that is my opinion though.
Personally I like JavaScript and most coders claim its a stupid language which is not far from the truth if you don't know the in and out of the language (quirks).

Recent Stackoverflow survey even shows that JavaScript coders are the most sought after in the industry because it is versatile.

even my pc knows I love javascript, at a time i didn't wanna learn jquery as a framework and even after I did, I always try to find a javascript alternative to any jquery function I find interesting.

ex::

Of course you can still use stopPropagation and preventDefault. And it's not different from listening to an event. It only helps you write cleaner, more maintainable code and separates behavior, presentation and structure.
Using html event trigger attributes such as onClick, onBlur, etc mix more JavaScript into your html which should be avoided. Instead of using those, query the elements you're interested in and use addEventListener() to attach event handlers to them. That makes your code more readable. It becomes clearer on first glance what your function is meant to achieve. Your html becomes free of JavaScript too.
I used this technique to write a template for a friend and reading the code was enjoyable. You understand the document structure better since it is almost html alone. Similarly, the JavaScript file was shorter and cleaner.

You're making sense. Reminds me of when I learnt javascript at first. I enjoyed adding those event handlers like the onClick, onBlur, etc to my html codes. But after learning jquery, I needed no one to tell me that the addEventListener() makes the project more professional.

I'm impressed with your review, I never consciously noticed that error... but I probably figured out it won't run If i used the b variable...my spider sense saw that coming plus I wrote this code online in some few minutes without even running it. I had to run it when @godofbrowser pointed out an error, that mistake can be forgiven.

@godofbrowser I would have downvoted your review if NairaLand had that feature, because the code will still run properly and the presence of only one unused variable/bad variable doesn't make the whole thing useless.

I haven't said the whole thing is useless and even if it is, I am not in position to point that out.

I saw something that's worth reviewing and I did, I could equally decide to ignore.

Reasons

The poster created a variable "b" on line 44 in a wrong way which would never work with that kinda onclick function you have on line 28.
He probably figured out his code was wrong and used h.style on line 50 instead of the declared "b".

It's important to note that "getElementById( h )" won't give u "getElementById( 'button' )", rather it will produce "getElementById( HTMLDomObject )" and this object ought to be used directly the way he later did on line 50.

The code works. I like his code cos i'm a fan of short clean codes, but then this error was almost a serious issue.

Your onclick event needs review Cos even without running the code, I can tell from experience that "this" as an argument won't give u the name of the id but will rather return it as an html object. also, u can't place "this" and another argument that way together. there is a trick to doing that. There's every possibility that this code won't run properly.

I am very passionate about I.T. and in fact, i've been able to teach myself html(5) , css(3), bootstrap, php, mysqli, javascript, jquery, wordpress (theme development up to the "functions.php" file) and a little bit of ASPX.

I have been able to create responsive websites with and without bootstrap.

I have been able to create a custom login website with mysqli and php to test my ability to manage a database.

I have been able to create a custom cgpa calculator using pure javascript to test my ability to use some advanced features like the javascript create element, append and prepend, math functions, etc.

these and a little more i've learnt by searching the web and reading up tutorials.

But i need to make my skills a little more professional, hence i'm seeking advice from the more experienced programmers/web developers.

Where can i study web development as a professional course and be awarded a degree?
