₦airaland Forum

Fellow Nairalanders, good day.

If you have rented an apartment in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, or Ibadan recently, you already know the story:

Landlords demanding 1 to 2 full years of rent upfront.
Agents asking for 10% Agency + 10% Legal + ₦10k–₦30k “inspection fees” just to show you an uncompleted building.
You finally decide to find someone to share rent with, but you’re scared of who you’re letting into your space or whose house you are entering.
Up until now, your options were either:

Relying on random WhatsApp status posts that expire in 24 hours.
Scrolling through endless unverified social media threads hoping someone isn't a scammer.
Or paying competitor websites ₦3,000–₦5,000 just to view a simple phone number.
We built RoomieHunt (https://roomiehunts.com) to end this stress.

What Is RoomieHunt?
RoomieHunt is an open, safe, and modern platform designed specifically for shared living in Nigeria. We cover 16 major Nigerian cities (Lagos, Abuja, PH, Ibadan, Benin, Enugu, Warri, Abeokuta, and more).

Whether you are a young professional, tech bro/sis, banker, corper (NYSC), or student, the platform supports you in 3 main ways:

Have a Spare Room? (Cut Your Rent in Half): If you’re currently paying ₦1.5M or ₦2M and your renewal date is giving you sleepless nights, list your spare room. You browse verified seekers and choose someone whose lifestyle, work hours, and habits match yours.
Looking for a Room to Move Into: Browse rooms listed directly by fellow tenants or vetted owners. Zero agent commission, zero inspection fees. What you see is what you pay.
Want to Team Up and Rent Fresh? Can’t afford a 2-bedroom flat alone in Lekki, Yaba, or Wuse? Team up with 1 or 2 verified members whose budgets align with yours, inspect together, and take the apartment jointly.
What We Are Bringing to the Table (That Others Don’t):
100% Free to Join & Connect: Unlike other platforms, we don’t charge you to post a room, and we don't lock basic contact info behind a paywall.
Verified Profiles (Identity & Phone): Members can verify their government ID and phone. You see an ID-Verified badge before initiating a conversation.
You Control How People Reach You: You decide whether verified members can chat with you in-app or reach you on WhatsApp with a pre-filled security intro. Your contact details remain private until you permit it.
Lifestyle & Habit Matching: Filter by work schedule, cooking habits, smoking, pets, and quiet hours so you don’t move in with someone who becomes a headache 2 months later.
Free Nigerian Roommate Agreement: We provide a ready-to-use, legally binding Roommate Agreement template drafted for Nigerian tenancy laws so you both agree on utility bills, visitors, and house rules before anyone moves in.
Anti-Scam Safety Rules: No blind money transfers, no escrow tricks. We provide an inspection safety checklist: physically inspect in daylight and pay the property solicitor/landlord directly.
