Abuja – Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested the immediate past Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mrs. Nkechi Ejele, for questioning over her role in the disappearance of N500 million Sure-P cash meant for the ministry.
The woman, who was fired by President Muhammadu Buhari last week, was summoned by the EFCC to answer questions on how the huge sum of money earmarked by the government for the ministry disappeared under her watch.
Accordingly to as competent source in the commission, Mrs. Ejele, who arrived the headquarters of the anti-graft agency around 10 am today, was still being grilled as at 3pm.
The former permanent secretary is expected to be admitted to administrative bail pending when she would be formally charged for the alleged offence.
The Subsidy Re-investment Programme fund was distributed to many agencies of government to help cushion the adverse effect of the partial removal of oil subsidy by the government in 2011.
However, it is being alleged that most of the money given out by the administration was stolen and diverted into personal pockets thereby defeating the government’s good intention.

The Republic of Chad’s National Assembly has extended a state of emergency in the western Lake Chad region by four months, following a double attack by Boko Haram militants that killed some 12 people.

The state of emergency was prolonged by 147 unanimous votes by the parliament for four months.

The government wanted a six-month extension, but deputies opposed it.

Chad helped force Boko Haram to cede territories earlier in 2015, undermining the Islamist group’s six-year campaign to carve out a Nigerian caliphate.

Google launches Android One in Nigeria
…promises to bring high-quality, affordable smartphones to as many people as possible

Google in partnership with equipment manufacturer Infinix, mobile operator MTN and online retailer Jumia, today launched the Android One program in Nigeria starting with the Infinix HOT 2-X510. This is part of an on-going initiative to bring high-quality smartphones to millions of people in Asia, Africa and other parts of the world. These phones are now available for purchase in Egypt, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Morocco and Nigeria.

The Infinix HOT 2-X510 smartphone, which is the first device to run on Android One in Africa, is available from today via online retailer Jumia and at select retail outlets at a recommended retail price of N17,500.

The Infinix HOT 2 phone offers a high-quality experience, running the latest version of Android (5.1 Lollipop). It will also get the new Android M release — an update that will offer Google’s new material design, improved battery life, enhanced security features, and smarter notifications.

In terms of hardware, the phone features front and rear-facing cameras, 1G or 2G of memory, fast quad-core MediaTek processor, long battery life and other features particularly important to Nigerians, including dual SIM slots, a FM radio tuner, 16GB on-device storage and a microSD card slot for additional storage.

The Senate is to begin investigating the management of funds appropriated to the Power Sector since 1999 and the unbundling of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria.

Federal lawmakers in the Upper Chamber also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to direct the Transmission Company‎ of Nigeria to reconnect Maiduguri back to the National Grid.

The Senate reached these resolutions after the Senate Majority Leader, Ali Ndume, in a motion drew the attention of the Senate to‎ the disconnection of Maiduguri from the National Grid and the General Power Degeneration across the country.

Senator Ndume said Nigerians had thought that the unbundling of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria would translate to improved electricity supply in the country but that had not been the case

Hey fitfam! So as you all know by now summer is almost here with the official start date being 21st! I know the weather in Lagos right now doesn’t feel very summery but I’m thinking we’ll be getting some sunshine real soon. 1. Only 5 percent of men around the world wear condoms. Keep in mind, this is a cross section of a variety of different countries that may or may not have easy access to contraception. But still, 5 percent is low. Really low. Especially considering the goal is 100 percent.

The Corps member, Susan Ijeoma Azubike, who was last seen on Sunday May 31st in Owo, Ondo State after armed robbers attacked a GUO Transport bus conveying her and several other passengers to Lagos from Abuja where they were serving, was rescued by the police two days ago.

Narrating what happened to her, Susan said;

"I was traveling from Abuja to Lagos on 31st of May, which was on Sunday. I boarded a vehicle by the roadside. I never knew they were kidnappers. The experience was horrible. We were under the rain, so cold and had to sleep under the floor. We were beaten and I was handcuffed. They demanded N10 million from my parents. I thank God have been release", she said.

Her kidnappers are the same men, Lucky Smart and David Akpan, who kidnapped regent of Akungba Akoko township in Ondo state, Princess Mojisola Omosowon who was also rescued 2 days ago.

Nine people have been shot dead at a historic African-American church in Charleston, South Carolina, and a hunt is under way for a white gunman.

Police described the attack at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church as a "hate crime".

They issued surveillance images of the suspect and said he had sat in the church for an hour before opening fire.

The church's pastor, state Senator Clementa Pinckney, is reported to be among the dead.

A prayer meeting was going on at the time of the shooting at about 21:00 local time on Wednesday (01:00 GMT Thursday) at the church in Calhoun Street.

Police described the suspect as white, aged 21-25, clean shaven with a slender build and wearing a grey sweatshirt, blue jeans and Timberland boots.

They released images from surveillance cameras showing him at the church, and also of a black four-door saloon car he was seen driving away in.

Speaking at a news briefing, city police chief Gregory Mullen said that six females and three males were killed, but that names would not be released until all families were notified.

"This is a very dangerous individual who should not be approached," he said.

He said that when police arrived at the scene eight people were already dead in the church and that one other person died later in hospital. There were three survivors, he added.

It’s an amusing, albeit often highly inconvenient, phenomenon that half of the world’s population has to deal with on a regular basis. So what’s the science story behind that morning glory? Let’s find out.
Morning glories, or nocturnal penile tumescence (NPT) as they are correctly called, are spontaneous er3ct1ons that occur during sleep or while waking up. All blokes without er3ct1le dysfunction are graced with them and they normally occur around three to five times during sleep.

NPT actually starts in utero, or in the womb (seriously), and continues throughout life. If it’s any consolation, men aren’t completely alone—women also get clitoral er3ct1ons and vaginal engorgement during sleep, and various nonhuman mammals also get NPT. While a few different theories have been proposed over the years to explain NPT, what causes it still remains uncertain. NPT, just like clitoral er3ct1ons, is associated with REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. One idea is that during REM sleep, noradrenergic cells (neurons that release the neurotransmitter noradrenaline [norepinephrine]) located in an area of the pons (part of the brainstem) called the locus coeruleus are switched off. It is thought that these cells are associated with the inhibitory tone of the p3n1s; therefore, when their activity is reduced during REM sleep, testosterone-dependent excitatory tones can be expressed which result in an er3ct1on.

It’s also been suggested that NPT is triggered by the release of nitric oxide (NO). NO is released by cells that line the inside of blood vessels which then diffuses into smooth muscle, causing it to relax. This also causes blood vessels to dilate, hence increasing blood flow to the p3n1s and voila, an er3ct1on. It’s thought that increased activity of part of the pons during REM sleep triggers a cascade of events that ultimately lead to NO release by nerve fibers. This is also regulated by androgens such as testosterone.
