The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, on Wednesday, swore in seven members of the Edo State House of Assembly Service Commission, charging them to support the government’s efforts at improving the lives of the people and ensuring economic prosperity for the state. The chairman of the committee is Mr. Shaka Momodu, while Raphael Okhani, Osunbor Osadebamwen, Ehis Onburekhalen, Aruya Tunji, Iyiekhuemhen Raphael and Matthew Ikhide are members. Obaseki during the swearing-in at the Government House, Benin City, said his administration has introduced technology in the civil service, as part of efforts to deliver quality and efficient services to Edo people. According to him, “Having you on board at this critical time in our transformation of all the arms of government, we have the confidence in you to help us undertake these reforms. As you can see, on the part of the executive, we have been working very hard to reform the way the executive arm of government works. “There is a lot of work going on in our public and civil service. We are introducing technology as a key driver for change so that we can deliver better and quality services to our people. We are also supporting such reforms in our judiciary; we are working with the judiciary authorities to introduce technology into our courts.” Obaseki continued: “We have trained quite a number of court stenographers; we will continue to work with the judiciary officers to deliver on their mandate. We believe that the same must happen with the legislature. "We expect that as a new house of assembly service commission, you must now look seriously at the terms and conditions of members of that commission and ensure that they are in line with the rest of the reforms we've seen in other arms of government. "Training and capacity building is very critical and crucial; we don't want the house of assembly to feel that they are not a part of our ongoing reforms. In fact, they should champion our reforms because we have only one house of assembly and they have fewer numbers of staff in relation to other arms of government.” "I have no doubt in my mind that you have what it takes and we have also worked together through the years,” he noted. In his remarks, the Chairman of the committee, Momodu, thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in them, promising not to disappoint the government and people of Edo State. Momodu further pledged to sustain collaboration with the government towards the realization of the Making Edo Great Again (MEGA) Agenda. *PHOTO CAPTION* *DSC_01* L-R: Chairman, Edo State House of Assembly Service Commission, Mackor Shaka Momodu; Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), Rt. AUTHOR: Crusoe Osagie Nigeria and Nigerians have a certain comic attribute which many times is an asset and other times, an incredible liability. A peep into the creative industry gives insight into how well Nigerians can transform situations that annihilate other nations not just into jest and entertainment but actually earn a living doing so. This capacity for comic relief and genius for intelligently making light of terrible situations has created a livelihood for the teeming Nigerian youth betrayed by a nation whose leadership has failed to transform its material endowments into a massive engine that creates wealth and opportunities for its people. We have numerous young musical artists who whimsically shut down the O2 arena in London and such like venues with their world-class acts. Then, there are comedians who can literally hijack your attention for hours once you stumble on their skits on social media. I could go on and say more about how the Nigerian youth has used the lemon they have been dealt by the nation’s rudderless political leadership to make delicious lemonade but that is not exactly the objective of this piece. Assuming that at least one of the many Nigerian political jesters junketing the length and breadth of Nigeria’s extensive ethnographical space, seeking to be candidates of their political parties, en route to the Aso Rock Villa, would read this piece, they need to realise that selecting a president for a country as distressed as Nigeria currently is should not be reduced to a comedy talent hunt. We have a crisis on our hands. We are at war with unrelenting insurgents in the north and across all of Nigeria’s forest belts. The economy is in shambles. The central bank has artificially held the slide of the nation’s legal tender at around N600 to a dollar. Anyone with fundamental training in economics knows that if the naira is allowed to trade freely, it will be no less than about N1,000 to a dollar. The healthcare industry where Nigeria had a bank of extremely intelligent professionals trained with the nation’s hard-earned resources is being violently raped daily with doctors, nurses, dentists, optometrists, healthcare technicians, etc moving out of the country in droves in search of better practice and greener pastures. To put this in proper perspective, I will use the situation in the local church where I fellowship; in the last 12 months or so, we have sent off not less than 50 families, many of whom have sold up all they had to their names and moved abroad. 80% of this number are families with healthcare professionals. Nigeria is at crossroads. This is not like anything we have ever faced in all our years of existence. Unfortunately, the nature of individuals who have tossed their hats into the ring, seeking to lead Nigeria leave a lot to be desired and this shows clearly that the political class is either completely oblivious of the present Nigerian conundrum or like the Americans will say, ‘they don’t give a damn’. The president Nigeria needs now is an astute leader, clearly above board. This is because apart from dealing with the tangible problems of insecurity, economic meltdown, unemployment, failed educational and healthcare systems among others, there is also the perception problem which is more subtle. We need the world to take us seriously and that depends largely on the pedigree and outlook of the president we eventually choose. We can’t afford candidates whose only claim to power is their loquaciousness. We can’t afford a president who will need numerous economic advisers just because they lack rudimentary knowledge of how national and global economies work. We need a president who will be polite, diplomatic and humane yet with a lot of guts to go against the establishment. We need a president with nothing to lose who is ready to die for Nigeria and Nigerians. Federal character is important, but not at such a time as this when doom is certain and imminent. They say people get the leaders they deserve. Right from the primaries in the various political parties and the final elections, Nigerians, just like we showed our leaders through the #EndSARS protest who the actual holders of power are, let us put them in a chokehold till they give us the president who can and will halt this fatal drift. Osagie is a concerned Nigerian citizen and special adviser to Governor Godwin Obaseki on media projects. *Edo excites W’Bank delegates, reels out impact of NEWMAP interventions in communities* The Edo State Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) has rolled out the impact of the government’s intervention in flood and gully erosion ravaged communities across the state to the World Bank and 23 other NEWMAP benefitting states. The Coordinator of Edo NEWMAP, Dr. Tom Obaseki, who led other officials of the Edo NEWMAP to an Implementation Completion and Result Mission (ICRM) meeting with the World Bank Project Management team, in Awka, Anambra, showcased the gains of the project’s intervention on communities and residents of the state. The event is an important part of the winding-down process of the NEWMAP intervention in states. The meeting is an opportunity for the 23 NEWMAP participating states to furnish the World Bank project management staff with details of various projects executed during the project period to enable the preparation of a comprehensive Implementation Completion and Result Report (ICRR) by the Bank. The Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) is a World Bank funded intervention, implemented in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Environment and other partner agencies, to address gully erosion and flooding in states. Obaseki said there are 15 intervention sites in various communities in Edo State that have continued to positively impact on residents, opening up communities and improving the livelihoods of people in the state. He disclosed that the sites are located in Ekehuan, Queen Ede, Oshiobugie - Auchi, Igbei-Auchi, Edo College, Ogiso, Gapiona, Urora, Iguosa, Fugar-Agenebode, Ewu, Emu, Ibore, and Emu-Ohordua, among others. The Project Coordinator also revealed that the NEWMAP in the state asphalted about 5.7km of roads within the Benin metropolis in line with the government’s infrastructural development efforts aimed at improving the living standards of the people. Noting that the NEWMAP has continued to open Edo communities for more economic activities, Obaseki said: “With our interventions, several flood ravaged communities have been impacted. Routes to farmlands that were once devastated by erosion have been restored, making agriculture viable again. This is a good one from the state Government *Story Shared by Editor: Good Force Media Organization* Info@goodforcemedia.org Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Goodforcemedia.org/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/goodforcemediaorganisation/ Website: https://goodforcemedia.org/ Official Whatsapp Number: /2349129932129 Nairaland: https://www.nairaland.com/goodforcemedia Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/goodforcemedia.org *#TogetherWeStand, DividedWeFall* *#info@goodforcemedia.org* *#EdoLitesWeCare* *#NigeriansWeCare*

*Obaseki, police partner to tackle land grabbing, others in Edo* *_… IGP deploys special team to restore sanity in communities_* *_… Election not war, Obaseki tasks CP on violent free-polls in Edo_* The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said the government is in partnership with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to tackle land grabbing and resolve communal clashes and land disputes in the state. Obaseki disclosed this when he received the new Edo Commissioner of Police, Abutu Yaro. The newly deployed CP takes over from Philip Ogbadu who retired from the force after 35 years of service. The governor during the visit, along with the CP, decorated 10 newly promoted police officers. Obaseki said as a result of the increased collaboration with the NPF, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba has deployed a special tactical team to complement the government’s efforts at restoring peace and sanity across Edo communities. The governor who described the issue of land grabbing in various communities in the state as worrisome, said the IGP will deploy special squads to assist in restoring sanity to communities across the state. He said, “I thank the IGP for deploying two police special squads to Edo State. We would soon inspect their accommodation as they will be deployed to the state in the next few weeks. This squad will deal with community issues and issues of land grabbing. We need your support and that of the area command. I have spoken with the AIG who assured us that all land cases that come to the area command will be referred to the Edo Command. “We are dealing with the issue of land grabbing squarely as it is impeding development in Edo State. We have a land committee in place, which is currently reviewing cases before it. We are making resources available to fight this menace in the state.” Obaseki, who urged the new CP to develop a mechanism to forestall electoral violence during the forthcoming Presidential elections, added, “As we prepare for another set of elections, we want to work with you to design a system that will not allow electoral violence in Edo State. “We want to tackle electoral violence. We must have a peaceful election; both pre and post-electioneering activities must be peaceful in Edo State. Election is not war and we don't see reasons why people take up arms during this process.” He continued: “I have been told that you have been putting in place an action programme to mop up those causing trouble for us, especially at the Ovia axis in the state. “The key to our security success in the state is hinged on the synergy and collaboration among security agencies in the state and the police is the apex. Once we have a very cooperative and open CP who is ready to work with other sister agencies in the state, it will help tackle the security challenges. “We will continue to invest in the security system and security architecture, and also support you in terms of logistics, equipment and operations.” Earlier, Yaro noted, “I am here to thank you for the top-notch security architecture on the ground which I have noticed with satisfaction and ready to key in to advance the cause of stability and security in Edo State.” The Edo CP also thanked the governor for his relentless support to security agencies in the state, pledging to work with the government to sustain peace and security. *Story Shared by Editor Good Force Media Organization* Info@goodforcemedia.org Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Goodforcemedia.org/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/goodforcemediaorganisation/ Website: https://goodforcemedia.org/ Official Whatsapp Number: /2349129932129 Nairaland: https://www.nairaland.com/goodforcemedia Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/goodforcemedia.org *#TogetherWeStand, DividedWeFall* *#info@goodforcemedia.org* *#EdoLitesWeCare* *#NigeriansWeCare*

https://goodforcemedia.org/2022/03/28/mothers-day-obaseki-hails-mothers-for-their-sacrifice-exploits-in-nation-building/ The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has hailed mothers for their immense sacrifice in ensuring a strong family unit and contributing to progress in workplaces in the quest towards nation-building. The governor, who said this in commemoration of Mother's Day, noted that mothers play a critical role in building societies and have played their part creditably in holding the fabric of society together. According to him, “It is with great delight that I commemorate this year's Mother's Day. Mothers, the world over, make immense sacrifices and have continued to push the boundaries to make society better, raising great children and also taking up important roles in the workplace, including boardrooms and in politics, to define policies and contribute to societal development.” Obaseki noted that reforms instituted in Edo State have created better work spaces for women in the state, adding that the state has prioritised the welfare of women, especially mothers, in its quest to ensuring an inclusive society. He stated, “We have brought mothers to the decision table as we have a good number of women occupying top tier positions in government, which affords us the opportunity to tap from their innate potential to build a better and inclusive society.” The governor noted that mothers constitute a large section of his support base, reassuring that he will continue to advance policies and programmes to give them opportunity to contribute to sustainable development.”
