you do not owe yourself 1k so it should not be part of what you are adding to the 98k you are owing your mom and dad.. that's makes no 1k missing.

because you are only calculating how much you are owing not the total.

I Pray that you Dad becomes Hale and hearty in good time.

one thing you can do is try to 'make him regain consciousness' is to passively engage him in things he loves doing. the kind of music he loves, family moments, consistently talking to him or any other things that you know he loves.

Nairaland / General / 5 Lies That Will Hold You Back In Your Career & Relationship by GospelGTP(m): 8:26pm On Feb 12, 2018
Working with clients in all domains of their lives I see patterns. Here is a recent trend of patterns I've seen popping up over the last year. Whether it be in their career, with their boss or business partner, their direct reports, or their spouse, their friends, their kids, stuff comes up that slows us down. Here are 5 common "lies" I see holding people back, slowing them down, and wasting precious energetic resources. Have a look, any of these for you?

1. I'm too busy. You're never too busy. Make the time. Be it time for communication, time to find the perfect fit of a job, a new venture that inspires you, or nourishing a relationship you want to grow -- you're not too busy, make the time. The ROI for creating the space and time for anything you WANT in terms of career and relationship can be grand. But you have to own the time. Claiming busy is a scapegoat that will go for miles yet get you nowhere. (For more on time, see my recent article in this column.)

2. I'm not qood enough. According to who? Check yourself before you wreck yourself and get in there. Check your IEP (Intentional Energetic Presence®) and hop to. Ready? Work your mindset; what are you intentions? Are you going in there to be in service of? Check your energy; what's the energy you're bringing into the room/conversation with you? What's your vibe? Do you come across as burnt out and busy, or are you awake, present, and ready to roll? And finally, your presence; how are you going to show up in that room/conversation? Where will your attention be? (On yourself and your nerves or on being present with them and tuned in so that the conversation is rich and you have a better shot at getting your intended outcomes.) Your IEP is all up to you.

3. They don't like me. The assumptions we have about people tend to have a way of designing us and can impact how we show up. Case in point, if I think my colleague doesn't like me or that lady at my kids' school doesn't like me, I'm likely to show up in more resistance, more careful, and more tethering evidence to prove my point. If I hold that they do like me and that we're going to get along just great -- I show up in a way that will invite that. I might not be right, AND at least I've set the stage for helping things go well.

4. I have to get it right/perfect. No. You don't. Be clear on your intended impact, go in with positive intent, do your preparation and due diligence, but forget about getting it right or perfect -- there is no such thing. Show up, serve, and go. See what unfolds.

5. I have to be unique. Easy peasy, that's already done. You are unique -- there's only one of you in the Universe and only one of you with the combination of characteristics, skills, presence, life experience, and heart that you have. Waste ZERO energy on this. No need for inauthenticity, trying to be something you're not, lying, overdoing authenticity, etc. Just do you.
Whether we're talking business or personal, career or relationships (they all meld together anyway if you're living a rich and full life!), these things apply to all. Notice where you spend ANY energy, wasting precious bandwidth, brainwidth, heartwidth, and just energetic currency on any of these. And then breathe and let it go.

Get in there

Nairaland / General / 7 Powerful Things You Should Always Be Able To Say About Yourself by GospelGTP(m): 6:36am On Feb 12, 2018
What you say about yourself has much to do with how you will succeed.
Written by @LollyDaskal inc.com

There are elements within ourselves that can either sabotage our success or lead us to greatness. In my bestselling book,
The Leadership Gap: What Gets Between You and Your Greatness, I speak about seven characteristics that can lead you away from your gaps, your failures, your sabotaging self, and allow you to embrace your greatness and your success.
Here are seven statements that reflect those characteristics. Whatever your role or aspirations--in leadership or in life--you should always be able to look at yourself in the mirror and voice these statements as truth.

1. I am confident.
Confidence is not a thing that is assured to us. We have to work on it by mastering our competencies and building expertise in our areas of capability. It is within that equation that you can honestly say "I am confident."

2. I trust my intuition.
Most people have a hard time leaving their analytical mind behind and having faith in their instincts, especially when it comes to business and leadership. But what I've found in my research is that trusting your gut is a skill that some of the top leaders of top industries use to make decisions. I've also found that those who go with their intuition are able to surpass those who rely on analytical thought alone.

3. I am honest.
Let's be honest about honesty: studies show that every third sentence a person speaks is a lie. When lying is so pervasive, then naturally telling the truth is hard. But honesty is critically important. It creates peace of mind when you take ownership of your choices and mistakes and admit it when you've done something wrong. When you take responsibility, people connect with your candor and you're free to be your best self. And when you stick with the truth, it doesn't matter how often you're asked about the subject. You'll never get caught up in conflicting versions.

4. I am courageous.
Being brave doesn't come naturally to most of us. Usually the first step in being courageous is to conquer fear itself by turning it into a motivator. In work, as in other areas of life, fear is something that can us back from happiness and success. But when you're able to describe yourself as courageous, you're saying that you're willing to face your fears, conquer your fright and do what it takes to be brave.

5. I am trustworthy.
Trust isn't easy to come by. If you want to be trusted, you have to begin by being trustworthy. Trustworthiness is shown in a person's actions, not in their words. It requires doing the right thing and doing things right and keeping your word in every circumstance. Then can you say of yourself "I am trustworthy."

6. I am a person of integrity.
Most people look for the easy way out and are willing to settle for solutions that are fast, cheap and less complicated. To do things with excellence is to be better, not faster; to focus on quality, not quantity. if you want to people to trust your leadership or do business with you, you have to understand yourself to be a person of integrity.

7. I am loyal.
A person who can say they are loyal understands how to serve others, protect others and help others. Being loyal is about thinking of others before you think of yourself.
In The Leadership Gap, I speak more about the gaps that can help us to become great if we acknowledge and leverage them--or cost us in greatness and leadership if we do not.

It's an opinion. Do have a great day!

Education / The 10 Traits Of Mentally Tough People by GospelGTP(m): 11:47pm On Feb 11, 2018
The 10 Traits of Mentally Tough People
And four things they do to make themselves even tougher.

I don't think mental toughness is something you are born with, and I strongly believe it's something we can all learn along the journey. After studying many examples of successful people and top performers, here are the 10 traits people with high mental toughness have in common.

1.Delayed gratification. Most people fail because they give in to temptations or give up to challenges too quickly. Mentally strong people understand how to work hard and contribute more now before they even think about returns. Psychologist Walter Mischel proved the ability of delayed gratification contributes to one's success later in life in his
marshmallow experiment held in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

2. Embrace constraints. We want to believe we have total freedom, and we think more freedom makes us better off.
The truth is the opposite. When some people naively want to have all the freedom, happy people embrace constraints. When they want all the glory, successful people embrace failures. When they want to be perfect, mentally strong people embrace imperfections.

3. Never seek for permission. They own themselves responsible. They never seek for permission and authority. They make their own way. If they made mistakes and hit a roadblock, they suck it up. They don't control things that can't be controlled--such as money and people. But besides those, they are always in control, especially of their own state of mind.

4.Focus on the fundamentals. Start with the fundamentals. Focus on the thing that matters the most. This helps us to eliminate distractions and cut through the noise.

5. Consistency. Mentally strong people are not born to be strong mentally, but they learned along the way. Success doesn't come in a day or two, and mentally strong people understand the power of consistency. They take tiny actions continuously and focus on their progress. They build habit consciously.

6. Self-awareness. Figure out your vision and purpose. Define your own identity. Then, know your strengths and weaknesses, know your roles, know your position, and know your goals. People who are self-aware are stronger mentally because they know how to deal with almost every circumstance and environment. Gary Vaynerchuk is someone who constantly emphasizes the importance of self-awareness today!

7. See things as what they really are. Mentally strong people never create stories for themselves. The ability to see a thing as it really is requires practice. To be mentally strong, you need to stop telling yourself the stories that make you comfortable and hide your true self and the reality behind the curtain. Accept the reality and then take action to fight against any adversity.

8. Optimism. One thing that moves us forward is hope. If there is no hope, there is no action, and thus, no results. Mentally strong people believe in themselves and, at the same time, believe in faith. The failure to see hope in everything you do will make you fail before you even try.

9. Embrace uncertainty. Most people want to predict the future. Certainty and safety are necessities since the
evolution of mankind. But no one can predict the future with 100 percent accuracy, which means there will always be uncertainty. Weak people flee from it, mentally strong people embrace it.

10. Willingness to learn and expand. Curiosity and the willingness to figure things out make people stronger mentally. Read, experiment, learn, reflect. Successful people never stop learning, even from a defeat, and that's exactly what makes them stronger.

Again, I believe mental toughness can be learned. Although I don't have a defined step-by-step plan to improve your mental strengths right now (I'll do some research and come back to you with this), here are a few simple tips I put together that have helped me to become stronger mentally.

1. Invest 80 percent of your energy and time to structuring your mindset. Mental toughness is all about how you perceive things and the way of your decision making.

2. Take risks regularly to push yourself away from your own comfort zone.

3. Exercise. Pushing your physical limits doesn't only train your body, it trains your mind too.

4. Be around mentally tough people. We are all shaped by our environment. In this case, we grow stronger mentally by picking up these traits from them.

You don't need to go through massive pain to improve mental toughness. All you need is to invest a little bit of effort, time, energy, and an ounce of willing to be uncomfortable.
