Dollar subsidy made life difficult for us for eight years... international transactions with naira card was impossible, plus airlines like Emirates were refusing to do business in nigeria...along with other buisnesses.

Now that the dollar has been floated, we are in a better place.

The best thing for any government to do now, is to support indigenous productivity.

USD subsidy has always been there🤷‍♂️.

Then we would have to do another round of borrowing to subsidize the naira, plus before we floated, it was even basically difficult to get naira at offical rate even.

At some point, I know I am not a tinubu supporter, or any politican supporter... but we got to face the hard fact. We need sustainable economic growth, not growth based on oil price.

Eff it, tinubu is taking some sane decsions, but he isn't fighting corruption and insecurity, and also keeping electricity underdeveloped..which is why he has to go. Still a broken clock is right twice a day. BUt then again, he had no choice.

BTW Petrol subsidy and Dollar subsidy, which one cost the government more?.

To keep fuel at N200 per liter, that means that government would have to pay a subsidy of 1200 per liter or more. That is what is needed to cover everything...ASSUMING the production cost stays where it is, and oil price no change from where it is.

That means that at consumption rates of 50 million, it would cost Twenty-one trillion, nine hundred billion naira (₦21,900,000,000,000) to subsidise fuel.

Assuming prices do not go up.

If prices go up during the year, the cost of subsidy would go up.

THen remember when we had smuggling? Fuel consumption was 100 million liters a day. That means that subsidy would reach N32 TRILLION NAIRA A DAY.

That means that the government would be forced to borrow massively to fund subsidy, or it would run out of money, meaning that the industry cannot afford to bring fuel to you, meaning scarcity till they are paid.

Our budget for this year is 68 trillion, 31 trillon was borrowed.

I don't care who you support, but Nigeria cannot subsidise fuel...if you like call me tinubu supporter, but we can't . We haven't been able to do so for over 5 decades, which is why we have the debt that forced subsidy removal and forced us into even larger borrowing than usual.

Floating of naira should be cancelled, it will touch all sectors.

Instead of removing petrol subsidy, Dollar USD should be subsidy as we are a import nation and lots of things will be cheaper including diesel, aviation fuel, medication......
