mikoj22: Happy Sunday great mothers and fathers in this house and greeting to all expectant mothers in the house planning to embark on the missionary journey. I came across this forum in my quest for information as regards the process of acquiring US visa for childbirth, I am here to say thank you to all that helped me out during the filling of the DS 160 form for me, my wife and baby. They went for their interview alone, this is because I choose a different date due to my work and will be going for my interview on a later date. The interview went well….. here is the transcript of what my wife told me. DW: Good morning madam with a smile. VO: Good morning, your passport please, DW: Gave her 2 passports VO: who owns the second passport?. DW: Its for my 19months old little daughter she was here but ran out to play with some kids. VO: Go and get her I want to see her. VO: how many kids do u have and reason for your visit to the US? DW: I have just her, but I am having another soon. Reason for visit is to have my baby and for family vacation. VO: Where is your husband now and why is he not here with you? DW: He cannot make it down here because of his job schedule but will come for his interview at a later date. I have his letter showing he is to take charge for the whole expenses of this trip. VO: I don’t need it, give me the bank statement and which of the hospital are you using and how did you hear about the hospital? DW: Handed over the statement of account, a family friend used same doctor and recommended him to us. VO: why do you choose to have your baby in the US? DW: Am a medical doctor and I wasn’t treated well in my last delivery . VO: what have you done to improve in the health care delivery in Nigeria. DW: I work in a Christian hospital and we treat patients based on our God fearing nature…………… VO cuts her off while checking the bank statement, DW peeped and saw that she hasn’t checked the second bank statement, so she reminded her that there was another bank statement she was not checking and VO said ,” I won’t be needing that” , by then my daughter was struggling with DW to run out again to play, as she bent down to hold our daughter, all she heard was “ i have approved visa for you both, kindly go through the guidelines for childbirth in the US, she handed her two white papers. She picked up their visa two days after from DHL at wuse II. I give the ALMIGHTY CREATOR thanks for his mercy, and confirming the word of his servant. Want to also thank all the gurus here in the house for the whole write up and a big thanks to those that answered most of my questions in the time of need. Thanks once again………………………………. Please am still battling with the flight issue due to the high fares for ticket. Please any one that have details on how to go about the booking of local flight from New York (JFK) to El Paso because she will be using the services of Doctores ParaTi. bouqounmie: Part 2 We got to DFW safely and on time. 4hours to arrival, I was already rehearsing my interview with the CBP officer, would pray for a while and then sing praises. Then start the cycle all over again. Got in to airport and we were directed to the self help automated passport machines. When it got to purpose of visit, na im I see, for business, for pleasure/tourist, and 2 other options. I no see to give birth. I called one the airport workers for assistance, she said I was choose pleasure/tourist. I asked are u sure? She said yes. I sha finished, picked up the printout & was told to proceed to baggage claim. I asked again, "are u sure?" She said yes. Ok o. Picked up my bags, then we were directed to the CBP officers. I had declared that I had some foodstuffs with me. When it got to my turn, the CBP officer just looked at my printout and told me to go to Agriculture check. My boxes were scanned & checked again. No contraband (had just ground melon, smoked fish, elubo, garri and spices). Then he says you're free to go. As I was leaving I saw it was marked exit. I was wondering what was going on. That was when I remembered my passport wasn't stamped. Went back to another officer to complain, met a Korean who also had d same complaint. He takes d man's passport, stamps it. Then collects mine and asked for d CBP who saw me. I showed him d officer that directed me to agric, and told me I has just left agric, meanwhile he was already stamping my visa. Na after stamping me in for 6months, he come ask for purpose o, and even concluded that, "oh, you're visiting". Told him I was here to have my baby, then he said "ok, you're welcome to Dallas". Me: I hope you heard what I said, I'm here to have my baby. CBP: I heard you, it's ok. You're free to go. Welcome. Me: thank you. I thought it was still a joke and would still be stopped by another CBP. It was not until I saw my host in Dallas waiting for me that I truly believed I was free to go. No documents were checked, no secondary inspection. I even push out stomach in case them form say them no notice pregnancy. I just thank God because after I got disappointed with my PTA runs on Thursday, I just got 1k dollars from aboki and I was fidgeting and anxious already. Thank you to everyone who has been contributing to this thread. May God keep our children and may we not labour over them in vain in Jesus' name. Sprinkling baby dust to all joyful mothers of many nations. The Lord that answered Sarah and Hannah is still the same God today. So chilling in Dallas to port to El paso next week. Wishing everyone travelling a safe trip and smooth entry. Safe delivery to us all and to all DHs, God bless you real good and keep you for us. So sorry for the long post o. Just couldn't make it shorter. PS: Happytbaby, you're a darling. *muah* Please kindly contact me as am also planning to come to El paso in September. Just need some as a mate . I sent you a pm . I will really appreciate. |

NaijaMama: True, I should get down to it already.
As some of you may already know, I mentioned that I'll use a birth center in Katy Texas. I followed up with my plan, contacted the birth center and paid a total of $4,500 using wire transfer through IBTC. I had a balance of $500 to pay on arrival.
I flew AirFrance at 35 weeks and 1 day. I was asked for Fit-to-fly by their officials at the airport in Lagos and I handed it over to them. I got it from my hospital.
I carried dried fish, garri, pap, blended melon, blended crayfish and groundnut. The bag was checked in without issues.
The flight from Lagos to Amstardam was very nice and comfortable, in flight entertainment was superb but the food wasn't fantastic. From Amstardam to Houston wasn't as nice though. I didn't need a wheel chair at any point, so I didn't use.
My POE experience was very nice and easy:
Officer: What are you here for? Me: Child birth and shopping afterwards Officer: I see that you were in New York in December Me: Yes, I came with my family for Christmas holidays and also spend 2 weeks in Houston. Officer: Put your fingers .... Why USA for child birth, why not UK? Me: UK doesn't give citizenship with child birth, I'll like to give my child the options of choosing where she'll like to live when she's old enough and the opportunities that come with being an American citizen, especially good quality education. Officer: Why isn't your husband with you? Me: he's home working and taking care of our older son. (As we were talking, more like gisting, he'd finished taking my biometrics and stamped my passport) Officer: Do you have any paper work? Me: Hand him my emailed receipt from the birth center and correspondent. Officer: Barely glanced at it, hands them over with my passport and wished me safe delivery. Everything took less than 5 minutes. I couldn't believe how easy it was. I had to ask him if that's all. He said yes, you can go. I looked at my passport and if been stamped in till Dec 24th.
I went to wait for my luggage, picked them all, passed through like everyone else, called uber and got home nicely.
My birth was uneventful. My baby arrived at 39 weeks and 5 days. The midwives were super nice, spoilt me silly. They were very attentive and supportive. I laboured in water but eventually had my baby on the bed. Wasn't a walk in the park but wasn't bad. I had my baby around 6.30am, I left the Birth Center around 1pm. The mid-wife came to visit me at home 2 days later, tested the baby and confirmed everything was fine. The birth center waved my balance of $500 and gave it to me as a discount.
They accepted all the lab test plus scans that I did in Nigeria. I didn't do any more tests except the routine ones that I didn't need to pay for. I paid for some other small things like herbal supplements and vitamin K shot for baby that totaled about $200 all together.
They applied for my Social Security Number and filed my baby's birth with the state. I received the SSC in the mail 2 days later and processed birth cert and US passport. Still debating what to do about Nigerian visa.
There you have it. That's my experience so far. It's been wonderful here but I can't wait to return to my family. Please I would like to connect with you to know the hospital you used and the accommodation you stayed. please pm me your email |
