if you check USCIS website or even the school website, you must file for change ofstatus 1years before the start of class. if her spouse still got a valid visa, then she could chill for USCIS but if her spouse visa has expired, USCIS will not change her status, they will advice her to go back to nigeria

I have been in contact with USCIS the date they gave was 2.5month to get approval, but some people get approval exactly 2 months, some its 1.8month while for some its 3-6month. The best bet is to get approval by middle of January If I will not be traveling to Naija

@gracemeryl,

Square65 said they filed for the adjustment few months before the actual class starts. So in order not to violate any immigration laws, I will suggest you go for more advise from your international advisor or if your spouse's F1 is still good, you may defer your admission to summer or fall. Going out of the U. S. is the last option.

I already applied for the uscis online option BUT JUST IN November, school official gave a little assurance to allow me register late if the approval comes late but the issue is trusting USCIS to provide approval latest by second week of February. Spouse F1 is still good if I will have to defer but the issue is that it was a fall admission already that I deferred till Spring.

Hello VO,

Hello everyone, I am currently on f2 visa in US and got admission for spring so I need to change to f1 to be able to enrol for classes. I applied online for the change of visa status but the wait time till approval is like 2.5 month which will put me at the middle of february and classes starts January 12. I am thinking, should I travel back to Nigeria to change my visa status to f1? what are my chances of approval if I come to Nigeria for the visa interview since I already applied via the online elis uscis? should I just wait in the state for the visa approval since some people get their f1 approval even before its 2.5 month? PLS I NEED YOUR ADVICE
