In an attempt to not only raise awareness about the issue of human trafficking but end the practice, the United Nations has used the end of July to mark World Day against Trafficking in Persons since 2013. But the practice of human trafficking won't be eradicated without everyone's help, including yours. While human trafficking is defined by the Department of Homeland Security as a "modern-day form of slavery involving the illegal trade of people for exploitation or commercial gain," it can take many forms. The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has called on Ghanaians to rise up and fight against aspects of the Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) program which seems to promote homosexuality.

The introduction of the Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) has been met with massive public uproar with some Ghanaians calling on the education ministry to withdraw it.

Majority of Ghanaians have expressed fears that the introduction of the CSE will indoctrinate children to be tolerant towards homosexuality.

Akuapim South and Nsawam branch Secretary of GNAT Daniel Agyei Nmai says though details of the CSE have not been made available to teachers as part of the Curriculum, aspects of the program emerging on social media and traditional media suggest a looming danger which must be blocked by all Ghanaians.

“It is not going to help us because we believe that if we are going to talk about gender right to the extent that a girl can decide whether she wants to be a girl or boy, is dangerous to our society so I think as a nation we should all come together to fight that particular policy but if it is just teaching about female personality ,male personality i don’t think it is a problem because it has always been part of our curriculum ”

He said this when about three hundred teachers converged at Aburi Presbyterian Senior High Technical School in the Eastern Region to keep fit through physical activities as part of the celebration of World teachers day which falls today October 5,2019 on global theme :”Young Teacher, The future of the Profession”.

Apart from Members of GNAT, the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools, Conference of Heads of Basic Schools and National Association of Graduate teachers in Nsawam Adoagyir municipality and Akuapim South district participated.

The Akuapim south and Nsawam Chairman of Gnat, Mr Samuel Manu called on government to provide necessary incentive and improve the working conditions of teachers to curb the high attrition rate in among the youth in the profession.

He urged Policy makers to decouple politics from education issues and take decision that will enhance quality of education in the country.
