The earth is so large that the small portion you stand on will definitely look flat in the same way you can't notice it's motion but it's actually rotating on it's axis and revolving round the sun. why would you flatten the ground?, but i thought standing on a flat surface does not make sense or is impossible, if the earths gravitational field can keep you on a ball earth comfortably then it should be able to keep you on a dome shaped football field.
