Unilorin Administration restructured School Fees Payment Scheme.

During the school fees payment, students where shocked to realize they were to pay the sum of #7000 before they can pay their school fees. investigations carried out by students showed the real school fees went into the TSA account, while the #7000 went into an unknown account. This money summed into about #180 million Naira.

Students React.
Several Students stated that the Wi-Fi network created by the school is not consistent, it was not conclusive and was never used. In several areas of the school it's non existent. Where is the 180Million Naira?

Student Union

The Student Union has been plagued with crisis of its own, with the Student Union President, Mr Alao Idris implicated in so many scams as regards various financial dealings as regards the missing 180million naira in conjunction with the school. The Student Union has been implicated in receiving turn overs from one of the contractors named "SOVEREIGN CAMPUS" who gave the Student Union a "Siena bus" in addition to paying the Student Union President a #100,000. a sum the Union President said he returned immediately to the Contractor and then he reported the contractor to the Anti Corruption Agencies. Further Investigations showed that the University Authority, through the Student Affairs Unit a mandated the Student Union to give the contract to specific Contractors among those who made bids for the Contracts. Some student activists such as a Mr Akeokeowo popularly known has "Mr Pen" have written about the said development and Student Exploitation. There are several calls for the Vice Chancellor and the University management to be Probed. Some analyst have shown that the amount paid, #180M will cover a land mass 4x that of the University, Of which the current capacity is not 1/4th coverage of the school.

Why Student Union Cannot React

The Student Union response to the unfolding events have been nothing short of "sheepish". Inside sources have shown how the School Management practically imposed their choice candidates as the leaders by illegally screening out their opponents. The Student Union has never for once been able to stand up for students right. Peaceful protest is not a bargaining tool as the University threat of expulsion is hanging on any such student who dare to organize or participate in such.

Several Student Union Senators have spoken out fiercely against the #180 Million scam. Leading lights such as a Oyinloye Dotun, who happen to have a vast knowledge in networking has once described the Wi-Fi Scam as the biggest University Scam. It never works. #180Million naira paid for Internet connection at the rate of #5000 per student in a student populace of over 36,000. It's a scam that must be investigated. All necessary authorities must question all those who are involved in this act.

Reports have also shown that the University under several frivolous ideas purposely hike the University Fees making it unaffordable. An Example is the Unilorin Tablet in which all freshers(100L) students pay #30,000 for. The Tabs are not durable and the significance has till date been not been proved. It's another scam by the University Management.

One Hundred and Eighty Million #180M Paid by Unilorin Students for Internet Connection must be probed forthwith as the facility is not on ground. Investigations have shown It was not remitted into the TSA account but to an unknown account.

This is a call on the Government, the General Public to look into the matter and all other issues emanating from the University Of Ilorin and investigate the Wi-Fi Scam.

We will keep writing until the matter gets to the appropriate authorities and till appropriatctions are carried out.
