An ongoing and increasingly violent uprising is gripping Indonesia, with protests escalating from Jakarta to at least three other provinces. The situation has descended into "complete chaos," leading to government buildings, including a local parliamentary building, being attacked and set on fire.

The violence has resulted in at least three deaths and several injuries after people were forced to jump from the burning buildings.

The protests were initially sparked by the government's perceived centralization and "statism," favoring high taxes and severe austerity measures that included a 30% cut to the financial budget.

The unrest intensified following an act of alleged police brutality where an officer killed a taxi or delivery driver.

The government's popularity, which was built on a nationalist and patriotic image, is now declining. While normal citizens face a "cost of living crisis" and budget cuts, the government is reportedly offering politicians a monthly housing allowance of $3,000—nearly ten times the minimum wage—funded by taxpayers.

In an attempt to control the narrative, the government is also said to be paying content creators $9,000 to produce pro-government content.

Political leaders are now in danger and have been advised to stay at home for their own safety, rendering them unable to even hold emergency meetings to address the crisis.
