Asue Ighodalo: best foot forward to govern modern Edo Today's Edo can best be described as a beautiful bride in the wait for a perfect man; she is the star of the moment, shining brighter than any diamond, and her beauty is the type that cannot be sacrificed on the altar of the toga of marriage, but to the most perfect man who can compliment her beauty and keep her on the radar of public admiration. Edo is bustling with enthusiasm, ready to be tapped into for significant economic advancement. The State has witnessed sizable reforms in recent times, her people getting greatly exposed, her infrastructure growing and her economic base gaining grounds by the day; the Obaseki-led administration has set the tone for improved conversation on the development of Edo State. This conversation must be seen to be forward-driven, capable of addressing the yearnings and aspirations of Edo people. Without doubt, the 8-year journey of the Governor Godwin Obaseki will meet the finish line this November, the development of Edo cannot be said to end with the hard working Governor, hence the need to get that perfectionist who can take Edo to the next level post-Obaseki. Asue Ighodalo stands tall in the whole governorship arrangement, he alone bears the torch to keep Edo on the radar of public admiration, considering the various initiatives his administration stands to garner. On infrastructure, Ighodalo has pledged to make Edo a cynosure of all eyes, building infrastructure with aesthetic designs capable of competing with global trends; on economy, Ighodalo has said he will make Edo a first world economy; on youth development, the PDP Candidate, who parades a number of youths in his train has promised to develop policies, programmes aimed at prospering majority Edo youths once on board. Asue Ighodalo, a renowned player in the business community, principal contributor to the gains of the current administration, possessing award-winning economic blueprints set to drive Edo on prosperity path; having played significant policy role in Edo State governments since 2008, he best understands the challenges, he knows the people, familiar with the terrain and possesses contemporary solutions to the ever-increasing socio-economic and political demands of Edo State. The PDP deserves commendation for putting its best foot forward, exploring the individual ability of its aspirants, and further producing the most competent, with unblemished character and unwavering capacity to drive Edo along the path of development—Asue Ighodalo. From community to community, ward to ward, LGA to LGA, there are recorded interventions by the Obaseki-led administration, these narratives deserves to be sustained, built on, further expanding the frontiers for advanced development of Edo State and considering the contemporary developmental demands and the need to continue to improve our State's economic potentialities, Asue Ighodalo stands in the gap, ranking as the best foot forward to govern a modern Edo. Consequently, in today's Edo, we owe it a sacrosanct duty to employ one of our best in 2024, to now direct the affairs of our dear State, steering the corporate existence of our State to the land of milk and honey for the good of the larger majority of Edo people. Asue Ighodalo, man for the job; vote "Ai" for Governor of Edo State 2024. *N'Edo Gha Ma.*

*Labour Party Elects Anderson As Gov Candidate, Rejects Akpata* *Times Newspaper* Daud Olatunji In a significant turn of events, the Lamidi Apapa-led Labour Party has chosen Uwadiae Asemota Anderson, a seasoned lawyer and Managing Partner of Neplus Ultra, as its gubernatorial candidate for Edo state. The decision was made during the party primaries held at the Golden Tulip Hotel Etete, GRA Benin City, Edo state. Anderson secured a resounding affirmation with 188 votes, showcasing strong support within the party. The primaries were conducted by Chief Electoral Officer, Comrade Roland Daramola, and the Secretary of the electoral committee, Bishop Favour Reuben. However, a twist occurred as another candidate, Olumide Akpata, emerged from the Julius Abire-led Labour Party, declaring victory with 316 votes in a separate exercise held in Benin City. This conflicting outcome led to a heated dispute within the party. National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Abayomi Arabambi, expressed dissatisfaction, denouncing Akpata’s candidacy as “ultra vires, non and void,” citing legal judgments from the Federal High Court in Owerri, the Court of Appeal in Owerri, and the Supreme Court in Abuja. Arabambi questioned Akpata’s legitimacy and alleged ties to the PDP, emphasizing the party’s commitment to upholding court rulings. The controversy further intensified as PLATFORM TIMES obtained court documents affirming the restraint of Abure, the candidate from the Abire-led faction. A Federal High Court in Imo state, the Court of Appeal in Owerri, and the Supreme Court all upheld the decision that Alhaji Lamidi Apapa remains the acting chairman of the Labour Party. Amidst these legal battles, Uwadiae Asemota Anderson stands as the undisputed candidate for the Lamidi Apapa-led faction, emphasizing stability and adherence to legal norms. Anderson, a graduate of Ambrose Alli University, has an impressive legal background, having handled numerous election petition cases and civil matters. His experience and track record in navigating legal challenges position him as a formidable candidate for the Labour Party in the upcoming gubernatorial election in Edo state. As the election season unfolds, the Labour Party braces for a fierce contest, with Anderson leading the charge against other contenders. The intricacies of party politics and legal battles add an extra layer of complexity to an already dynamic electoral landscape in Edo state. In a recent development, Bar. Monday Ojore Mawah has been unveiled as the deputy governorship candidate for the Labour Party in the upcoming election in Edo state. This announcement positions Mawah alongside Anderson as they embark on their political journey, representing the party in the crucial race ahead.

*Obaseki inspects ongoing Ekehuan Road construction, others* _*…reassures on completion*_ The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki led other government functionaries to inspect ongoing road construction projects in Ekehuan, Ugbiyoko and environs. Speaking to journalists after the inspection, Obaseki, reassured on the completion of the construction projects before leaving office, noting that the road is very significant as it leads to Gelegele which is the closest point to the Benin Port. Obaseki was accompanied by the Commissioner for Road and Bridges, Ethan Uzamere; Commissioner for Public Safety and Security, Kingsley Uwagbale and other top government officials. According to him, “This is a very significant road, and the main road leading to Igbine, Gelegele, and the closest point to the Benin Port Project. Initially, we would need this road to move men and materials during construction to the Benin River Port. “Subsequently, part of the Benin Port Project is to build a dedicated road to move traffic but between now and when the Port will be completed, this will be the major arteries. When we did our last survey, we had nothing less than 100,000 persons dwelling in this neighborhood as it's a highly populated area and these are our citizens. Hence, there is no reason why they should continue to endure the hardship caused by this road.” Obaseki reassured, “Like I said, every major project I started, I will complete them before leaving office in November 2024.” On his part, the contractor of the Ekehuan Road Project, Engr. Ighiere Duke noted that by October 2024, the road project would have been concluded. He said, “We have started the earthwork and concrete work simultaneously and by the end of March 2024, asphalt work would have started. Our target is that by October 2024, anything about Ekehuan Road will be completed and commuters and residents living on Ekehuan Road will have reasons to smile and thank the governor for the work.” Also, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Roads and Bridges, Ferguson Enabulele said concrete technology has been deployed in constructing roads in the State since 2016. He stated, “When Obaseki took office in 2016, concrete technology was one of the technologies he used for road construction. It was used in Navies and Ogieva Streets Projects. “From 2016 till date, Navies and Ogieva Streets have been intact. When we carried out the design of Ekenwan Road, we discovered that there are associated spot segments that have low line areas. The governor suggested the use of this technology which may last for a minimum of 70 years and we decided to use this technology for low-line areas.” The Permanent Secretary added, “The technology is good and it may be used in the construction of other roads across the State.” A resident of the area, Mr. Uche Nwanbuzo thanked the governor for the road construction project, noting that he is satisfied with the level of work. A bus driver plying the Ekenhuan –Ring Road route, Mrs. Precious Nwango, commended the governor for his developmental strides across the State. *PHOTO CAPTION* L-R: Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Roads and Bridges, Ferguson Enabulele, and Commissioner for Road and Bridges, Ethan Uzamere, during inspection of ongoing construction on Ekehuan Road, in Benin City, on Friday.

*Edo developing a technological workforce to provide innovative solutions to societal problems, says Obaseki* The Edo State Government has said reforms in the State’s civil service, over the past seven years, are aimed at developing a new generation of workers equipped with the necessary technology and expertise to create and provide innovative solutions to societal challenges. The government said it is developing a technologically savvy workforce and harnessing the power of technology to enhance performance across all sectors of the State. The Edo State Head of Service, Dr. Anthony Okungbowa spoke during a Design Sprint Showcase event held at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy in Benin City, the Edo State capital. Represented by the Permanent Secretary of Human Resources, Mr. George Igberase, the Edo Head of Service reaffirmed the commitment of the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration to establishing functional institutions that are capable and well-empowered to address societal needs. Funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and facilitated by the ACIOE Associates in collaboration with the Edo State Government, the Design Sprint exercise empowered over 150 graduates and officers from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) within the State's civil and public service on the use of digital tools and processes to enhance service delivery. According to Okungbowa, “The administration of His Excellency, Mr. Godwin Obaseki from inception set out to revolutionize the traditional way of doing things by focusing on revamping the civil/ public service of the State. One of the cardinal objectives of this goal was to create institutions that work. “A look down seven years before now shows a period of unprecedented technological growth. The Government did not only embrace technology but adopted technology as a means of carrying out work processes in the service.” He added, “One of the impacts of this is an improved and technology-driven workforce. Today, we are celebrating the achievements of some of our first officers in the service who now think, breathe, and speak technology. Today the officers will pitch their prototypes to us having gone through rigorous sessions of workshops and field work to identify challenges. They will also propose solutions that can be delivered through technology.” In his remark, the Commissioner for Digital Economy, Science and Technology, Hon. Ogbeide Ifaluyi-Isibor expressed confidence that the solutions developed during the course of the event would be put to good use, adding that the execution of projects stemming from these solutions would propel both the government and the governed forward. He noted, “We had this Programme for the last two weeks where civil/public servants in Edo State have been coming together to brainstorm to figure out solutions to some of the problems we have in Government and in our society. They were able to showcase competence and their knowledge in understanding possible solutions.” Stakeholders from various ministries, departments, agencies, and private partners attended the Design Sprint event. It also garnered participation from top government functionaries, including commissioners, Special Advisers, permanent secretaries, directors, and executive senior staff from different MDAs to discuss potential challenges affecting the State and explore innovative solutions to addressing them. *PHOTO CAPTION* L-R: Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Digital Economy, Science and Technology, Yuwa Naps; Edo State Commissioner for Digital Economy, Science & Technology, Ogbeide Ifaluyi-Isibor, and representative of Edo State Head of Service and Permanent Secretary, Directorate of Human Resources, Mr. George Igberase, during a Design Sprint Showcase event held at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy in Benin City, recently.

*Obaseki decries dislocation in Nigeria’s education system* _*…links inconsistency to irregular migration, human trafficking*_ The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has decried the dislocation in Nigeria’s education system, linking the inconsistency to the high level of irregular migration and human trafficking in the country. The governor, who spoke to journalists in Benin City, said his government is changing the narrative and has, over the past seven years, focused on reforming and strengthening the State’s education system using the Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation (EdoBEST). He stated that the success recorded by his administration in the fight against human trafficking and illegal migration in the State is linked to reforms in the education sector as well as programmes and projects to equip and build the capacity of Edo youths to become globally competitive. According to Obaseki, “Re-enacting basic education in the State has thrown up several issues and shows us the dislocation in our educational policies and how it's affecting the whole chain. The breakdown of our basic education is one of the root causes of irregular migration and has led to human trafficking in the State.” The governor noted, “We embarked on EdoBEST to change the narrative. We decided to set up an education fund to encourage more students to go to school. We also focused on teachers to improve the learning standards. Five years on, we can now see a reversal and rapid improvement in learning outcomes.” On efforts by his administration to transform the State’s tertiary education system following the success recorded at the basic and secondary education level, Obaseki noted, “We are committed to sustaining the revamp in our tertiary education system. All our local government areas have been connected with fiber as we have almost 2,000km of fiber across Edo State. It’s our priority that tertiary schools in the State are connected as it supports distance learning.” He further charged, “We have to focus on what tertiary education should be and how we should rethink tertiary education to provide the manpower that we urgently need to improve productivity. We should wake up as a nation as our problem in Nigeria is not the exchange rate but productivity. We are not training our children to understand this and be productive.”

*Obaseki hails military, other security agencies for improved security in Edo* _*…urges sustained collaboration to end crime, criminality*_ The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has commended the military and other security agencies in the State for their support in ensuring the security of lives and property of Edo people, linking the improved safety and security in the State to their relentless support. Obaseki said this when the new Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport (NASST), Major General Nansak Shagaya, led some senior officers of the school to pay him a courtesy, at the Government House, in Benin City, the Edo State capital. The visit of the Commandant was his first since assumption of office as the 21st Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, Isihor, Benin City on July 10, 2023. He assured the Commandant that the state government would always partner with the school in various areas of interventions, including training drivers and firefighters under the state government's employment, among others. Obaseki said, “We are happy and pleased with the support we get from the military. We are happy for the collaboration, support, and assistance the corps gave to us during COVID-19. Our core role is to provide security to our citizens and anyone resident in Edo State and we have succeeded so far because of the level of cooperation and assistance we have received from security agencies, particularly the federal security agencies like the military. “Under my watch, we have been able to improve the relationship between Edo State Government and the military such that today we have two operating bases, one in Ehor and the other in Sobe which have helped to provide comfort and assurance to our citizens that whatever the situation is, it can be dealt with.” “We can collaborate as you assist us in training our drivers as we have a transportation hub in government as its operation is now centralized. We are also expanding our fighting capabilities in that area as we need your assistance in building the capacity,” he added. Commending the governor for his innovative and transformative leadership over the past seven years, the Commandant noted that he had not been able to officially visit the Governor since assumption of office in 2023 due to the exigencies of work and other commitments. According to him, “The school collaborates with some Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government, as it has some capacity the state government can leverage on. I urge your administration to take advantage of the opportunities that are available, while participating in the internal security architecture in collaboration with the 4 Brigade Command and other security agencies.” He expressed appreciation to Governor Obaseki for the state government's contribution to the development of the school, including the construction of the student-officers hostel that has helped ease the accommodation challenges of students when they come for courses, and the construction of a block of 4 classrooms and toilet at the Junior Secondary School of the Nigeria Army School of Supply and Transport, among others. *PHOTO CAPTION* *DSC_01* Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, Major General Nansak Shagaya (left) presenting a souvenir to Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, during a courtesy visit, at the Government House in Benin City, on Tuesday. *DSC_02* L-R: Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, Major General Nansak Shagaya; Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, and Edo State Commissioner for Public Security and Safety, Kingsley Uwagbale, during a courtesy visit, at the Government House in Benin City, on Tuesday.

Governor Obaseki made a N10million presentation to her foundation when she was presented to the Governor at the commissioning of the Cee-Jackson Apartment and the 73rd birthday celebration of the Chairman of Benin Port Project, Mr. Greg Ogbeifun, in Benin City, the Edo State capital. According to the 500 level undergraduate of Fishery and Aquatic Biology at the Lagos State University, her decision to embark on the world record attempt was to give support to ongoing efforts to eradicate prostitution and cultism in the State. Education is a tool needed to compete across the globe and to succeed in the future and we are making sure we provide such a platform for our people.” He added, “I am passionate about this young girl who is trying to place Edo State in the Guinness Book of World Records by identifying with our own issues, telling the world our own stories, cleaning the distorted records, as she is trying to tell our own story to the world. I am giving you a present which is a donation to this young girl's foundation. I am donating the sum of N10 million.” Congratulating the celebrant, Mr. Greg Ogbeifun, the governor prayed that God grants him long life in good health, noting, "We are celebrating him today because of what he represents to all of us. We have seen different aspects of him, his role as a father and brother in this family; his role as a community leader in this Community; his role with his Alma Mater; his role in his profession, and his activities in supporting different courses especially those that concern young people across the Country. “I am proud of him as someone who, over the last seven years, has identified with us on the mission we are set out to achieve. That is, to take our legacy and inheritance, and reposition what we have inherited from our forebears and place us in a position to compete in today's world, now and in the future." Obaseki added, “In the last seven years, we have tried to move Edo State from an ancient great city to a modern dynamic city. We are here to dedicate this property.
