Gov Godwin Obaseki is a man endowed with so much wisdom.Posterity will indeed be kind to him for all the wonderful deeds he is doing for Edo people. His recent move to resolve what ever issue the traditional rulers in the state is having especially using the instrumentality of the law is highly commendable. Thank you our Amiable and Workaholic Governor. Thank you most distinguished senator Roland Owie for standing on the side of truth. Oba gha Tor kpere! Iseeeeeee!!! |
*Oba of Benin remains uncontestable head of all traditional rulers and chiefs in Edo State* *_… Monarch’s subvention has been shored up, not reduced as is being peddled by mischief makers_* The Edo State Government has restated that the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, remains the uncontestable head of all the traditional rulers and chiefs in Edo State. In a statement, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Osa Nehikhare maintained that the Oba of Benin’s position as the permanent head of all the traditional rulers in Edo State remains sacrosanct in the State Government’s implementation of the Traditional Rulers and Chiefs Edict of 1979, especially as relates to section 45 of the edict. The statement reads: “The Edo State Government restates that the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, remains the uncontestable head of all the traditional rulers and chiefs in Edo State. “The government notes that the subvention to the monarch has increased since Governor Godwin Obaseki came into office and has not been reduced whatsoever, as is being falsely peddled by mischief makers. “Rather, the funding increased since the commencement of the administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki because the Value Added Tax (VAT) and the excess crude components have been included. “The Oba of Benin’s position as the permanent head of all the traditional rulers in Edo State remains sacrosanct in the State Government’s implementation of the Traditional Rulers and Chiefs Edict of 1979, especially as relates to section 45 of the edict.” Nehikhare continued: “Recently, in the wake of some disagreement among some traditional rulers in the State, the traditional rulers agreed with the State Government to temporarily warehouse the fund in a central pool until the administrative issues were addressed. This was between April 2023 and July 2023. “It is important to state here that against the false information that the fund was withheld from July 2022 to July 2023, all statutory payment was paid until April 2023, when it was agreed for the funds to be warehoused till date for the resolution of outstanding issues. “These administrative issues have now been resolved by the Edo State Government and the palace delegation led by the Iyase of Benin, Chief Sam Igbe, and this pool of funds is now being disbursed to the various traditional rulers across the State as well as the Benin Traditional Council. “The total amount now being disbursed to all the traditional rulers in the State is N1,316,746,764.13. Of this amount, N639,269,245.26, goes to the traditional rulers in Edo South Senatorial District. “While the Benin Traditional Council (BTC) gets N319,634,622.63, the balance of N255,707,698.0 is distributed to the traditional councils in the seven local governments in the senatorial district, while N63,926,924.52 left is reserved for any emergency in the councils.” He further stated, “In the same vein, Edo North traditional rulers get N377,642,592.6 while Edo Central traditional rulers receive N299,834,926.27 “It is therefore shocking to hear mischief makers trying to stir a phantom crisis between the Edo State Government and the palace of the revered monarch, with many of them making completely false statements and spreading misinformation on social media.” The Commissioner charged, “We call on Edo people to be wary of misinformation and know that everything is being done according to the law and the accounts of the traditional rulers are being credited.” He added, “In all of these, we want to by this medium restate that His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, the Oba of Benin, remains permanent chairman of the Edo State Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs as well as the permanent chairman of Benin Traditional Council (BTC). “Funding to the revered palace has been shored up and is not in any way depleted as these purveyors of falsehood have gone out to portray in the public domain. “With this full implementation of the law, the government expects members of local government traditional councils to interface with their subjects and promote security, intelligence gathering and community development within their domains.” “The government will continue to work towards harmonious living in the State, ensuring that all stakeholders are carried along in its development strides,” Nehikhare reassured.

*Obaseki eulogizes quintessential journalist, Peter Enahoro, extols his illustrious contributions to nat’l devt* The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has mourned the passing of foremost journalist, Peter Enahoro, describing him as a ‘national treasure’. In a statement, the governor said Enahoro made “insightful and critical commentary on the Nigerian nation and its march to a free, fair and just society.” According to him, “I am deeply pained by the news of the passing of renowned journalist and scribe, Peter Enahoro, self-styled ‘Peter Pan’ in his newspaper column, where he made insightful and critical commentary on the Nigerian nation and its march to a free, fair and just society. “Pa Enahoro, who hails from Uromi, in Edo State, was sired by a lineage of politically-conscious parents and as he grew older, he made a lasting imprint on journalism practice in Nigeria and internationally. “He ventured into journalism at an early age and rose rapidly to the highest positions in the field in the 1960s, becoming the Editor of Sunday Times at 23 years and then Editor of Daily Times in 1966.” He added: “Pa Enahoro conquered the local scene and launched an impressive international journalism stint that heavily impacted how the outer world views and understands the complexities of Nigeria today. “A quintessential columnist, his takes on Nigeria’s pressing and nagging issues were deeply thought-out and poignant, a reflection of his very matured political opinions as well as critical views of those in power at various times in the history of the country. “He can be rightly described as a national treasure, who secured his place in history in the feisty early years of Nigeria’s nationhood. Working as a newspaper editor, he spared none of the Premiers of Nigeria’s three regions at the time in his satirical pieces – he would engage in gutsy debates with the Sardauna of Sokoto and Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello; spar with the Premier of Western Nigeria, Ladoke Akintola, on topical issues and Dr. Michael Okpara of Eastern Nigeria was not left out. “Pa Ehanoro later went into self-imposed exile for about 13 years, during which time he worked at reputable international publications, bringing issues bedevilling Nigeria to the attention of the global community. “He was a cerebral journalist, who deployed his intellect in the service of the country, providing and nurturing the space for healthy debates on national policies that impact the lives of the people. “One can rightly say that his engagements were a labour of love for the development of Nigeria and the vibrant press in the country today owes much of its credit to Pa Enahoro’s bold and courageous skill with the pen to hold those in power to account for their deeds.” The governor described him as a thorough-bred Edo man, who spoke truth to power and espoused noble virtues of diligence, hard work and intellectual rigour. He added: “Pa Enahoro will be remembered for his charm and candour as well as his commitment to a society with a free, just and vibrant press, where everyone is free to express their opinion without let. “On behalf of the Government and people of Edo State, I express my sincere condolences to the Enahoro family, the Nigeria press, and all admirers of the great ‘Peter Pan’ and pray that God will grant all the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”

UNIVERSITY OF BENIN STUDENTS AND STAFF HAVE BENEFITED MORE FROM OBASEKI THAN OSHIOMHOLE ...An Objective Analysis...... .1)The Ekosodin Road. Oshiomhole refused to construct that road after several years of appeal, that caused much pain, Insecurity, and flood to staff and students but thanks to Governor OBASEKI who has not only constructed the road but extended his construction of roads to adjoining streets around the community. .2) Gov Obaseki has ensured the improvement of Security to Ekosodin, BDPA,Osasogie and it's environs through the "Edo State Security Network"; Before now Students and Uniben Staffs Know how the community use to be in terms of insecurity. .3) Construction of the over head bridge to ensure students do not lose their lives through avoidable road accidents which was a usual occurrence while crossing the express road but the construction of road barricades and the bridge by the Gov Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki's administration has reduce it to zero .4)The 19th,15th and 16th Streets are currently under construction and near completion. Thanks to Gov Godwin Obaseki 5) The Edo job programs is another area in which student are trained to learn any skill of their choice while in school and at their comfort. Now these graduates are given job opportunities without nepotism, favoritism or connections .5) Very recently Street Light adore the Benin-Lagos(Uselu/Ugbowo) Express Road. All Thanks to Our Amiable and Workaholic Governor Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki.
