Wole Soyinka was jailed multiple times for his political views and for his role in the Nigerian Civil War.
Nigerian Civil War

He was never formally charged, but spent most of his time in solitary confinement.
He wrote The Man Died: The Prison Notes of Wole Soyinka, which is considered a classic of prison literature.
Other arrests
In 1963, Soyinka was arrested for taking over a radio station at gunpoint and broadcasting a message denouncing electoral fraud.
In 1966, he was arrested for attempting to negotiate between the federal government and the Biafra separatists.

Never in the history of this countrys democracy have we seen such brazen federal government sponsored rascality as we are seeing in such places like Rivers state, Kano state, Lagos state and now Osun state. The desperation to use maximum state powers to force results favourable to the APC apparatus, whether in traditional tussles, legislative confrontations or in local government affairs, is to say the least- overwhelmingly stunning!
