Wole Soyinka was jailed multiple times for his political views and for his role in the Nigerian Civil War.
Nigerian Civil War
In 1967, Soyinka was arrested and held as a political prisoner for 22 months. He was accused of conspiring with the Biafra rebels.
He was never formally charged, but spent most of his time in solitary confinement.
He wrote The Man Died: The Prison Notes of Wole Soyinka, which is considered a classic of prison literature.
Other arrests
