Romance / Re: Why Are Nigerians Shy About Public Kissing? by gugo(m): 6:22am On May 20, 2007
The society is a dynamic one, so also cultures and even values. However, we should take pride in our cultures and tradition. That is the very identity of a people. I dont believe that the American way of life is better than ours. Western governments can go a long way in order to preserve their perceived way of life. So, why cant we preserve our cultural identity? With all these western copy-cat-ism going on, I wonder what we will leave behing for the unborn ones.
When it comes to kissing in the public, i guess we should exercise some level of decency (this also depends on the type of kissing).
Romance / Re: My Ex-fiancee Has Siezed All My Certificates by gugo(m): 12:51pm On May 19, 2007
U guys should not put ethnic colorations into this issue. I dont believe that a "people" is bad or good. That she is from Ikwere (niger-delta) and you are Ibo is meaningless (this has been the bane of the nigerian society). The matter should be dealt with purely on its merits. Perhaps the idea of involving EFCC sounds more appealing to me. As someone suggested, make sure u record ur conversations with her. Then, u can head for EFCC. It is as simple as that. Even if she decides to destroy ur certificates, u can always have an alternative.
Politics / Re: Akunyili Or Ribadu: Who Performed Better? by gugo(m): 1:47am On May 19, 2007
I really feel that both Dora and Ribadu have done well by the "nigerian standard". Dora however stands head high above shoulder over Ribadu. I believe in the rule of law and justice of equality. Ribadu will not score so high in this regard. It will be an uphill task to achieve development in an environment of selective justice (Ribadu's area of specialisation). In the fight against corruption, compromises should never be condoned! It pains me that somebody of Ribadu's stature (supposed icon of nigeria's anti-corruption crusade) would write an article suggesting that the world bank President should not resign against the backdrop of corruption allegations. His reason being Wolfowitz's contribution to poverty alleviation in Africa. Corruption should never be condoned no matter who's ass is gored! And who the hell told him that world bank cannot find a better President! That was the same antics they used during 3rd term and even Abacha's self succession bid! angry
Education / Re: Australian Education And Residence Permits? by gugo(m): 4:29pm On Oct 10, 2006
Guys,
The process for getting the australian student Visa may have changed a little bit. The australian embassy incharge of nigeria and the sub saharan africa is in Pretoria South Africa. After getting admission, you send your offer letter, passport, financial documents through DHL to the australian high commission in SA. DHL will collect the visa fee and courier fee. IF you are successful, they will send you a list of panel of docters. After that, u'll be instructed to pay some part of tuition to ur educational provider. Your educational provider(school) will subsequently issue u with an electronic confirmation of enrollment (eCOE) which u'll send to the embassy b4 being given a visa. The whole process takes approximately 3 months.
