Celebrities8 Months After Signing To Mavin Records, Is Iyanya Still Up To Something? by Guruspage(op): 3:52am On Jun 09, 2017

Once upon a time in July 2016, the news of Iyanya’s exit from Made Men Music Group under a controversial circumstance came as a shocker.

Not because Iyanya is not big enough to walk away from a record label, but using the exit door from a label he co-owned with Ubi Franklin made the issue more complicated. Okay, maybe he was going to float his own record label and form his own team.

While waiting for the big news that will unveil Iyanya’s record label, the tweet from Mavin Boss Don Jazzy announcing Iyanya’s activation to Mavin Records left everyone in the state of “HanHan, Kilonsele”?

Series of questions began to pop up from every angle, What’s happening? Why would Don Jazzy Sign Iyanya? Why would Iyanya himself sign for mavin knowing fully well that the house of Mavin is full already? At the end of the day, the only answer we got from Don Jazzy and Iyanya is “UP TO SOMETHING”

What could Iyanya be up to? Okay, we go dey wait. We’ve been waiting for 8 good months now, everyone is yet to have a feel of what Iyanya said he was up to. Abi, hin just they bobo us?

Yes! he dropped a signature EP comprising of 8 tracks. Not even a single track on that EP made it as much “Duro” by Tekno. So, What on earth is he Up To?

If that signature EP is all that Iyanya has been up to, it means he is not even up to anything in the first place. While Tekno has been dropping hits and bagging awards, Iyanya has been UP TO NOTHING!

What do you guys think, Do you think Iyanya is still up to something, after 8 Months Of Signing To Mavin Records?

PoliticsThe Case Of Fraud Against Fani-kayode Takes A New Twist by Guruspage(op): 2:08pm On Jun 08, 2017
The case of fraud against a People's Democratic Party chieftain, Femi Fani Kayode will progress despite his bid to hamper the legal proceedings. Justice Rilwan Aikawa of the Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday refused to suspend the trial of former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, pending the hearing of his application seeking to transfer the matter to Abuja.

The embattled former Minister had urged the court to stay further proceeding in the case until an application he filed to transfer the case to Abuja, where he contended that alleged offence was committed, is determined.

But the judge dismissed the oral motion holding that Fani-Kayode’s application is not yet ripe for hearing.

Justice Aikawa however granted an application filed by the second accused in the case, former Minister of State for Finance, Senator Nenadi Usman, praying the court for the release of her international passport to enable her travel abroad for a medical appointment.

The judge granted Usman leave to travel for three weeks between July and August to the United States but must surrender her passport to the court not later than August 31, 2017.

The two ministers and one Danjuma Yusuf and a company, Joint Trust Dimensions Limited were re-arraigned before Justice Rilwan Aikawa by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following the withdrawal of the former trial judge, Justice Muslim Hassan from the case.

Justice Hassan withdrew from the case after Fani-Kayode objected to being tried before him, on allegation of bias.

The 17 count charge brought against them by the anti-graft agency border on conspiracy, unlawful retention of proceeds of theft and money laundering.

The EFCC alleged that the accused persons on or before January 2015, unlawfully retained the total sum of N4.6 billion, which they knew was a proceeds from an unlawful act.

While Usman, former Minister of Finance, under president Goodluck Jonathan Administration, Danjuma Yusuf and Jointrust Dimentions Nigeria Limited retained the sum of N1.5 billion, Fani-kayode and Olubode Oke, said to be at large, were accused of retained the total sum of N1,650,650 billion.

The accused persons were also alleged to have made payment of several amounts running to billions of Naira without going through financial institutions.

The offence which was allegedly committed between January 2015 and March 2015 is contrary to Section 18(a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) (Amendment) Act, 2012 and punishable under Section 15(3) & 4 of the same Act.
They pleaded not guilty to the charge.

During Wednesday proceedings, the EFCC called it first prosecution witness, Olusegun Idowu who identified himself as a media consultant.

Idowu told the court that he got two contracts of N24million and 6million from Fani-Kayode through an intermediary, one Olubode Oke.

However, at the prosecution’s request, the court adjourned trial till tomorrow (Friday) to enable the witness bring originals of invoices and receipts of the alleged transactions.

Earlier, Fani-Kayode’s counsel Norrison Quakers SAN informed the court that it was yet to rule on a pending application for the case to be moved to the Abuja division of the court.

Although Justice Aikawa said the application was not in the court’s file, Quakers insisted that the application was filed on the day of the defendants’ re-arraignment and had been received and acknowledged by the EFCC.

The application, Quakers said, was jurisdictional in scope and should be determined before trial could commence.

Quakers said: “Practice direction is clear on this matter. This is what the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, in his wisdom, has formulated. The rule is recognized by Section 490(d) of the Administration of Criminal Justice LAW (2015). Rules of court are meant to be obeyed.

“There is a practice direction that guides the Federal High Court in situations like this. The direction says the court will not commence trial until the defendant’s application is taken, one way or another. It is trite that jurisdiction is the life of any adjudication. The second defendant (Fani-Kayode) has not said he does not want to be tried, he is saying he does not want to be tried in Lagos.

“Your Lordship is bound by Rules of Court, the ACJL and judicial pronouncements on the issue to determine it one way or another.”

He argued among others that the CJ’s power to make the practice rules flowed from Section 490 of the ACJL pursuant to Section 254 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

But Oyedepo, relying on Section 396 of the ACJL, argued, among others, that Quakers’ position was correct in law.

He said: “I submit that it would amount to turning the law upside down to say that the substantive issue, which is the allegation as contained in the charge, cannot be taken without determining the application. Section 396 of the ACJL is higher in hierarchy and takes precedence over the practice direction.

“This application is challenging the competence of this charge in Lagos. What the defendant did was just to lift the same application decided before Justice Hassan and re-filed it here. This application, apart from being a gross abuse of court processes, cannot constitute a stay.”

Ruling, Justice Aikawa upheld the prosecution’s argument and said, “I have listened to the erudite argument of counsel.

In my opinion, practice directions, although having the force of subsidiary legislation, are meant to guide the court in criminal trials. Departure from it in some circumstances will not render proceedings fatal if done in the interest of justice and speedy conclusion of trial.”

The court then allowed the prosecution examine its witness, Idowu.

CelebritiesMUST READ! 10 Questions Every Upcoming Artist Should Sincerely Ask Themselves by Guruspage(op): 9:31pm On May 27, 2017
It’s getting increasingly hard to hit stardom as a fast rising musician. Most of them are in the business for the wrong reasons with no real conviction as to why they are making music or what they hope to achieve with music and that’s why we keep having several absurd ‘Publicity stunts’ all in the name to ‘Blow‘.

Here are 10 honest questions every upcoming artist should sincerely ask themselves.

So Stop! Whatever you’re doing Stop! Go through this with sincerity and re-evaluate your stance in the music industry.

1. Why do I make music? You must be able to answer this anywhere, and don’t tell me because it makes me happy or to pay the bills, that doesn’t cut it, there must be some honest depth to this answer. Some sort of strong conviction from within, not just because of the life.

2. What aspect of music am I absolutely great at? What can you beat your chest and say I can compete at the highest level in this regard, maybe not exactly now but in a bit. The standard is not static, if you walk away after seeing where you need to improve, on coming back you would meet a different level of creativity. So where! Writing, rap, singing…

Where can you fit in and stand up to anybody. You need to know confidently your skill-set or work on a strong point if you lack that.

3. How long? How long do you intend to make music, firstly you can’t do this for life FACT. So how long and what next, what’s your end game. Where does this end for you and how

4 What’s the vision? Do you just want to ‘Blow’, get it like Wizkid or Davido. That’s their story, what’s yours? You need to have a fulfillment point, and you absolutely need vision and direction as to where your own process is headed and what the plan is as you move.

5. What’s your dream, what’s your reality? So you listen to the J.Cole‘s the Kendricks and you hear their start stories and it inspires you to ‘dream’, but my brother. the point is you can’t totally replicate another man’s dream. Not because of lack of talent or skill but because of reality.

So let me hand you the facts, Nigeria’s population as at 2013 was 173.6million, as at 2014 the American population was 318.9million, now imagine in 2017 what the population will be. So clearly you don’t have the same listening/interested population.

The music structure abroad is not your reality, there are different stages there, you can have an Rnb concert PACKED, a rock concert PACKED, a metal concert PACKED, a hip-hop concert PACKED. Here we have only one stage, and we call it ‘blow’. We do not have the same structure so you have to study and learn what applies here and cross that with your own dreams and goals.

6. The record label logic, Can You Justify this? If you work for money, you would value it. So it happens that you are signed or about to get signed. Here’s the thing, so some at the label says lets pay Artist X 1.2million to be on this song and also pay Artist Y 1.5million, mix and master the Music with the ‘best’ sound engineer 150,000, shoot with the best Director with about 2 million, logistics and all you’re headed up to 5 million on one song, and you’re dancing to Burna Boy’s ‘wetin you see na God e blessing’ you’re not alright sir.

Considering further that the music hasn’t been promoted. How do you justify this, how much more will the label spend before you earn that? This is one of the reasons artists and labels fight, just plainly being unreasonable at the start.

That 5 million can work on a large catalogue of music and can run the project for sometime. Some silly ‘label’ moves defy logic. The reason you’re okay with that kind of spending is because you’re ignorant and you lack personal vision so any move with icing is a good move. Labels can sometimes blur things, keep your feet on the ground don’t rack up pointless debt.

7. If the label system fails, what next? So we take it that number 6 is where you’re out of a label system, what would you honestly do. If that label drops you today what do you do next. Can you work and spend ‘your’ hard earned money on your own music. Ask yourself this now, because if you can’t pull it together when it falls apart please kindly quit now.

8. How do you measure your growth? Where were you 6 months ago, where are you now. What kind of opportunities did you attract a year ago and what kinds do you attract now. You must be able to judge yourself critically but! You must be realistic and consider your own path, you can’t judge how far you have come by looking at another artist, they can be a point you look up to, but acknowledge your own successes and failings with perfect understanding that everyone’s process and progress is never the same.

Set goals and follow through, have meetings with yourself and sometimes someone or group of people you truly trust to analyse your situation and set targets. This isn’t bad to do as an upcoming.

9. The business, what do I need to know/learn? Digitization (selling the content on iTunes, Vevo and others), marketing, the cooperate sector and all that stuff is a broader view of the business. You must outline why things are done, why you would spend this and a logical way to earn. Don’t spend without thought, there should have thought towards your financial management, so you must go out and learn ways to monetize what you have and ways to earn.

10. God? Yes, God. I don’t know what you believe in or what your religion is but brother there is a God who is in perfect control of events and keeps the world in balance. Without faith in God, you CAN’T do this. Rely on Him to guide you and have faith.

Comments are welcomed.

CelebritiesLink Up By Ycee Ft Reekado VS Link Up By Phyno Ft Mi, Burna Boy by Guruspage(op): 9:23pm On May 27, 2017
Just last week, Phyno teamed up with MI and Burna Boy to deliver a banging new tune which was titled LINK UP. The song appears to be a reflection of a pretty smart link up of the trio. Abi, What else can we get from a song that is flooded with three big names in the industry?

Phyno killed it, MI murdered it and of course Burna Boy massacred everything. The title of this banging joint reminded me of “LINK UP” by YCEE featuring Reekado Banks which was equally a big hit too as at December 2016 when it was released.

In terms of delivery and overall flows, both songs are two different dope songs but they both share the same title, “LINK UP”.

Now, let’s assume you have to download one of these two songs with the last data balance on your phone, which would you download?

Between Link Up by Phyno ft MI and Burna Boy and Link Up by YCee ft Reekado Banks, Which would you rather download with the last data balance on your phone?

Tell us the one you prefer!!
